i went with a pointy Pine for reference, it seems to be the best shadow also using google earth pro, they seem to have good elevations for tree height estimations... You got it... Knew it when you filled in the flat surface part I missed... Carry on, hehe. Also, look up trees species online to find typical mature heights. Edit: You can use fairway width at same distance as tree in question from tee, etc... In a photo for reference, since you have the fairways mapped. Or, take the timestamp from the aerial photo and reference the sun angles there and back them into the actual heights, ha.

Aren't the default tree heights pretty realistic? I generally add one at default and add some slightly taller or shorter. I have not noticed that ever looking odd.

When using TGC Tools use the LiDAR tree function as canopy height should be pretty accurate and then delete the vast majority of the trees except a few for reference.
What I tend to do is add a few trees that aren’t automatically LiDAR created and a different species to those generated and match the height. I then go to multi select and click “delete all” on each tree species I don’t want and hey presto, you have height guides but you also don’t have the shitty LiDAR generated trees
