very interested in lidar course creation having played some very realistic 2k21 courses.
specifically University Ridge in Dane County WI.
I used the NOAA tool and located the Dane County LAS FTP site I found a tileset decoder picture and downloaded the 4 LAS files that cover the course.
Now it looks like I need to buy TGC2019? to create/import/export to 2k21?

Should I do an OSM thing too..? the tool is "finding heights of trees" pre mask stage.. .1% at a time planning on importing it into 2k21 to plant decorate - just wondering if the OSM thing is in addition, or instead of the lidar

WOW apparently the course is already mapped in OSM - sweet.
so should i just let the tree thing keep running?
pretty excited to have figured it out so far...

I kept poking around and realized I had renamed my map.png to map(1).png.. so I renamed it to map.png got past that error!

Couple Questions:
In the preview tab, the holes weren't green outlined like they are in the tutorial... - does that mean something I did wrong? I clicked export course anyway just to see, how long does that take normally if you did it right? I don't want to cut it off if its compiling or something....

well i clearly did something wrong, the holes didn't translate and there were some massive elevation drops that were clearly errors of some sort...
guess i'll try again tomorrow!
the osm looks really good... and i thought the lidar was solid too..

The massive elevation drops could be where water is on the course. You'll need to fill those in with water and generally they should be fine.
I think the holes being wrong is due to holes in OSM not having the right waypoints. Every hole needs a tee, one waypoint, and the green. It looks like some par 5s have multiple waypoints, and at least one par 3 has no waypoint, just tee and green.
Those are my best guesses. Good luck.

Thanks! the OSM looks pretty dang good... www.openstreetmap.org/export#map=16/43.0234/-89.5419there isnt much info on what the OSM needs to look like, I was just trusting this already done area I'll mess with it I was poking around - is there a decent tutorial on it? Looks like most of the work has been done! Ok so one waypoint per hole... gotcha

well I managed to grind it out! EPSG was off, and after a ton of patient digging I found the right one and the course mapped out perfect! well close enough for my first effort.... now I need to figure out all this decorating stuff (including importing lidar trees, buildings, or not etc)

Love University Ridge! I played it when I was out at Epic.
Question. I am trying the LiDAR thing as well and when I open the course in PGA 2K21 the course looks great except there aren't any holes. I have greens and way points but no flagsticks. Did this happen to you?

Also, did you use a TGC2019 blank template course file to start with or are you trying to use a PGA2k21 template course?

Now it looks like I need to buy TGC2019? to create/import/export to 2k21? Any other way? I have a very simple local 9 hole course I want to recreate and I really don't feel like paying $50/£45 for TGC19 when I already have TGC2 and 2k21...
