Here are the beginnings to my WIP. I have the front 9 paid out mostly surfaces and some rough sculpting done. This is a photo of the 9th green that I started doing a little planting on to get an idea of what direction I will be going with that. I will be doing more work on 9 left of fairway that you can see and some small sculpting on the green. I’m not using that lighting for my finished product but I liked it for this picture! im not officially in the contest. I’m an alternate but was encouraged to post and create as if I were in the competition. I will continue to update as I complete more.

With 32 people in the contest, I wouldn't be surprised at all if a few dropped out at some stage. Keep it up man - at the very least you'll get some valuable feedback throughout

Keep it up man - at the very least you'll get some valuable feedback throughout That’s exactly what I am doing this for as this will be my very first course I’ve created/published. I have played around a little with the designer in TGC19 but never created a course and published. I hope to at the very least get some good feedback/criticisms and improve because ive found I do enjoy it!

I’ve made some progress. Here is a picture of the par 4 6th hole. This one has some major strategy from the tee as a large sand dune dissects the fairway and you want to be on the right side depending on which flag. It faces back towards the ocean and beach with the lighthouse. This is the second time the course comes out to the beach. im not set on my lighting, but I liked this for the picture! Here is a photo of the par 3 4th. It’s going out along the coast and towards the lighthouse. This shark toothed green slopes from back to front severely. You got to have your distance number correct here. The bank bunker is deadly with a back pin. Still a lot of work left behind the green to create some dunes and the beginning of the beach.

Here is a look from above the tees of the par 5 5th. It winds back in towards the clubhouse and gives a nice view of the 6th from the tee to the right, the clubhouse and 9th hole behind and a small marina that sits in the bay to the left. This hole is all about the tee shot. You can get home in 2 but it will require being on the proper side of the tall live oak tree at the bend in the fairway. The aggressive play will take on the marsh to the left and leave a chance to get home in 2. The second picture is of the approach in towards the green from the safe tee shot approach. You will have to lay up here for your 2nd. However, with the large dunes, deep bunkers, beach, water and fairly sloped green this may be the best play. I still have some work to do around the greens with planting and a little more sculpting to get this one how I want it.

Another view of this par 5. This time from the green looking back...front 9 is shaping up and coming together.

Here is a very early look at the driveable par 4 3rd. Decisions to be made early in the round. This one requires precision whether you go for the tricky green or play safe to the fairway (Very undulating and will require a good shot to the right place to find a flat lie for a simple pitch shot approach).

What is the depth of the green for the angle of attack from the tee? It's obviously tough to tell in pictures but I'm not sure how one would land and stop a driver on what looks to be about a 10x20 yard runway surrounded by hazard.

The tee box is right of this picture and the angle of attack allows you to hit driver and stop it there as I’ve done it several times when I was testing this/laying it out, but is not how I would personally play it. If you drew a straight line from the best angle to this green it’s to the tee boxes. Laying up does not give the best angle but it’s safe.
I don’t remember the exact dimensions of the green but there is indeed room for someone who wants to take the risk. If I remember right from front (which is sort of the right part of the green you see in this picture) to back is roughly 35 yards. But you are required to hit a good shot or pay the penalty.

The light looks fantastic on these photos and I love the fairway contours from what I can see. I'm definitely packing a few sleeves of spare balls when I play there though - so much water :-)

Several holes are beachside and then have a marsh surrounding them too. I’m building this with a little inspiration of the Charleston area and so much of that area is water and inlets/bays along the coast. My back 9 will have quite a bit less water than the front.
Also, the lighting is finally set to what you see in the final picture. Thanks for the kind words!

Been away for a week on vacation. But I’m back and slowly working on my course. Here is a view of the par 3 8th hole. The water here shouldn’t really be in play as this is a mid/short range hole. However for errant shots, beachside sand is deep and the green is sitting up pretty elevated on a dune. Here is a closer view of the green. It has a large false front and a mid green ridge that will create problems for pins positioned near the front 1/3 of the green. From the ridge the green slopes back towards the ocean and will require some thought for your approach shot to have a good chance for birdie.

Trust me, any water can be in play at Masters and Legendary difficulty, lol!
That aside, this is a gorgeous looking course. I do keep thinking about what happens when a hurricane hits though!

Lots of nice stuff here - wonder whether you'd benefit from a more muted green and fairway tone though? The neon fairways, tees and greens really grab the eye compared to the rest of the very natural texture colours. Usually a good place to start is to keep the same texture for all (i.e. number 7 for all) through the set. Just a thought, keep up the good work
