Hi PC designers
I have a course that I sort of like but I want to try some drastic changes and then compare the two.
I guess I can just go into the course folder and copy the original file to a back up folder, change the course name of the original then copy the backup back into the course folder, so I then have both versions accessible in the designer.
Do that sound feasible?
Thanks for any help

It used to be that you had to copy your backup to a separate folder because you couldn't have two courses that were the same internally, and modifying the file name didn't change that.
It's been years since I've tried it, so I say give it a shot and let us know how it goes, but make sure to keep a backup with the original course file name stored somewhere, just in case.

Unfortunately no it doesn’t seem to work. I was sort of hoping that making some changes, course name, adding a few trees etc would rename the .course file on the hard drive. It doesn’t
So when I tried to copy the original back in to the folder windows obviously asked if I wanted to replace the file.
Oh well, never mind.
One for the wish list perhaps? A “save as” function in the designer?
Thanks anyway

What I do is:
- create a folder that will hold all my courses
- create sub-folders for each of my courses
- create new sub-folders that are dated and describe the course
- store exactly one course file in each sub-folder
So, I end up with things like the following:
..\courses\HitchensRazor\2020-09-02 - Front 9 Routed\riaheus9738us.course
..\courses\HitchensRazor\2020-09-03 - Highlands With No Trees\riaheus9738us.course
..\courses\HitchensRazor\2020-09-03 -Delta Island with Autumn Trees\riaheus9738us.course
Then, I copy/paste whichever version I want back into the 2K\PGA TOUR 2K21\Courses\ folder.

Ah I see, that makes sense. Thank you, I will maybe try that.
What I hoped for was being able to have both variations of the course accessible in the designer so I could swap quickly between the two.
Thanks for your help 👍

I tried to copy my course file to release a beta version and it worked but when I published it wouldn’t publish under the new beta name, instead it published with the intended name for the finished course (what the other file had as a name). Not good as it was 70% finished!

It’s ok as I now just have to tell everyone which is the right version now forever and every time it comes up 🤣

in the future you can use Chad's tool to import your course, change the name to 'experiment' and then save it in your backup folder and the game course folder. that way, your 'saved' course and the one you want to mess around with will have different names in the game. the tool allows for changing the official name of the course in-game and then you can save the course file with any name you like - 'original' 'experimental' etc...
i've actually fired up the game twice and compared my changes that way - alt/tabbing between the two. it will run two at the same time.
