The 12th hole
The Links @ Fir Trees Bay. I went into this course with the idea of if it was in tournament play. The last 3 holes for example are a drivable Par4 and 2 reachable Par5s but are all quite well protected with sloping and bunkering so scores could range from eagle to double bogey. I’m basically imagining someone 2/3 shots behind with 3 holes left and it might still give them a chance to win and make it difficult for someone leading to know whether to be aggressive or play it safe. The driving on the holes (mainly) isnt that difficult but I’ve setup the shots to the green to be tricky with elevation changes, some between club shots and some tricky pins to access and some tiered greens to make players really think carefully about the approach shots. Some pins for example will require to use the contours of the green rather than attacking the pin directly. In saying all that, I’d expect good player to shoot low scores as the course isn’t particularly long and the greens although tiered aren’t severely slopped (mainly-there is a couple). Hope you all enjoy it if you get to play it. Just to emphasise that it is only my 2nd course so any feedback you could all give me would be brilliant. Thanks a lot

played it, I liked it. Pretty nice course, liked the elevation changes and challenges... 9 though should probably be a par 5. Playing on Master clubs and hit a perfect perfect drive into a 10mph head wind and still had 266 yards up hill like 46ft.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes I’m hindsight yes you are correct. I was trying to make it long and difficult and was working off the 3-5mph wind on the designer, then my heart sank when I played the published version and I had a similiar wind into me (13mph) Just so you all know I’d say order of difficulty generally for the pins are Pin1 most difficult, then Pin3, Pin2 and Pin4 easiest

Re Published as “Links @ Fir Trees Bay G.C” with some slight changes. 9th hole is now a Par 5 instead of a Par 4. Some different bunker shapes added on a few holes and some Pins flattened a little.

Hey man really enjoyed your course! Since you said you’d like feedback, I did a bit of a short critique for you. The Good: Your first hole I thought really did a nice job of “setting the tone” for the round and letting the player know what they’re in for. I also liked that you opened with a par 3. I don’t see that very often. For a second publish, your planting is very nice in most areas. Continue to build on this skill! There were also a nice amount of strategic tee shots on this course. My favorite was the 12th with the carry over the left fairway bunker shortening the hole considerably. I thought your sight lines were very good especially for a tree lined course. Things I think you can improve on (FWIW): I liked the cliff-side elements but some of the slopes were maybe a bit too extreme. The way the texture gets with abrupt elevation changes makes them look a little cartoonish in spots. It’s not your fault it’s just the way the game renders it. I’d try using big rocks and planting to hide some of the more extreme areas. On #2 and a few other places, I felt your layup areas were perhaps a little too narrow. I’m all for creating challenging holes but if the player wants to give up a chance at eagle, maybe allow them to do it a little more easily. Usually taking the safe route is all about trying to avoid a big number and ensure par or, at worst, bogey barring a seriously poorly executed shot. Some of your layup areas were missable with a simple “slow” or “fast” tempo swing. Some of the shot corridors off the tee were pretty narrow. In heavy crosswinds, these types of things can become unplayable especially on longer holes. Finally, the only knock I had on your planting was that some of the smaller rocks were very obviously multi-planted. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with multi-planting (I use it it’s a huge time saver!) but I’d suggest trying to blend the clusters a little better with either some individually planted rocks or use a trick that I found and put multiple lower-density clusters in the same spot. The clusters are completely random and change every time you change the size or object density of the cluster. Keep switching them until you get a pattern you like then plant it!
In closing, I really enjoyed your course. It was very good especially for a second publish. I hope my feedback can help you to continue to grow with the designer and I’ll definitely be on the lookout for your next course as I feel that you certainly have potential! Cheers!

Thanks a lot for all of your comments/advice and praise. I really appreciate them all. I did do a lot of the sporadic plant with the rocks but maybe I did use bigger clusters in parts. Will definitely use bigger rock to break it up a bit. Already working on the next one. Will post a thread for it in a while. Thanks again
