Based on the volume of new submissions to the database with 2k21, I'm thinking I'm going to need to revive this thread sooner than later. Kudos to you, "Swizz Alps Country Club."

New Course still seems pretty popular. That's good to see.

The Random Country Club... I'm baffled at the amount of names in the queue these days that just scream "I can't be bothered to put effort into it, but I expect you to play it anyways"

If you have to abbreviate words that don't have anything to do with golf just to make it under the character limit, it's probably not a good name.

I am stuck on really weak ones that 'honor' family or friends' names right now. I thought "Justin Auder Municipal" had a ring to it. I also saw an "Achilles Hills" which tickled my punny bone. I can imagine if the servers wouldn't allow duplicates we just might grind to a halt 😜 How many synonyms for "Pine Valley" are there, after all ?

If you have to abbreviate words that don't have anything to do with golf just to make it under the character limit, it's probably not a good name. I didn't go with any abbreviated words, but initially my current WIP course was going to be named "Emerald Pines Athletic Club" and Athletic made it like one or two characters too much, so I went with Ocean instead. Idk, I like it. Would it be better if it was just Emerald Pines? Maybe. Maybe not.

As a fellow pedant, I love everything this rant stands for. Hot take incoming, (I stress, this is an individual take) I hate the use of the @ symbol. Sorry, again, Eric. Mantis is cool though. Especially those Mad Mantis follow ups you did. Oh, and check the translations of your courses mean what you think they mean. You know who you are - and there’s more than one of you 😉. On a serious note, I find naming courses one of the hardest parts of designing. I will put it off for ages and then spend a good two hours searching Google Maps or throwing names at jwtexan until I find something I like. They really matter and need to be memorable. As Matt says, don’t rush it or do something stupid. Quite why anyone would name it after the Coronavirus though is utterly beyond me. I wish I would have read this thread before naming my course Quarry @ Whitetail Lodge. It seemed like a good idea at the time but now I highly regret using the @ symbol. Maybe it will get a name change when I port it over for the next game. Is that possible for an approved course that is used on tour?

“Burning Bush at Gonorrhea Valley” might be my next course name.

That's a catchy title. I try to avoid the names of trees in the titles.... just too many courses with the word "pine" in them.

That reminded me… last time I saw an update on course naming, I grabbed all the course names from the TGC tours course listing and generated a word cloud… might get it on a t-shirt!! Or not 😉

ALL CAPS COURSE NAMES ARE A TURN-OFF! Can't help but agree here. Feels like the course name is being shouted at me.
