Milwaukee CC is my latest WIP. This "Golden Age" course was originally established on a pasture outside Milwaukee in the 1900's. A new plot of land was found near downtown and after several designs and redesigns Architect H. C. Alison, who was partners with Colt and MacKenzie took over. Work started in 1927. This course has been rated in the Top 100 in the USA over many years and is presently second in Wisconsin and 59th in USA by the website Top 100. It also rated well by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and others. This is a traditional parkland style course with lots of bunkering and the Milwaukee River comes into play on some of the holes. The course IRL is a par 72 that plays over 7000 yards, but two of the par fives are quite short even from the tips so my version converts those to par fours. It is unfortunate that you and I will never get to play the real course unless you know a member there. The strict rules require that you be accompanied by a member to play and that is a tough get. In the style of the day almost all of the bunkering is flat-bottomed with steep faces; which is a pain since the TGC designer always makes concave-bottom bunkers. That means a lot of bunkers to flatten the bottoms of! I show a picture from the first tee IRL and the game just to give you some idea. I hope some of you RCR fans will follow my progress. I will post updates as I continue working.

Just a progress update on Milwaukee CC; no pics this time. It is going well, but I did not quite realize how tedious it would be to convert all 83 bunkers from HB style to flat-bottom ones . I had done a lot of this type of conversion on TPC Old White, but the majority of those were pretty easy shapes like rectangle, round or ovals. The bunkers here are almost all randomly shaped, which does increase the amount of time it takes to flatten them appropriately without ruining the overall contours. I also have to go through and increase the size of pretty much every tree that was brought over with the Lidar - this course has some big trees. Ah well, enough complaining. I have got a lot of the ancillary stuff completed; the clubhouse and other outbuildings, swimming pool and tennis facility, most of the roads and parking lots. There are not too many residences visible from the course, which is good because it may be a bit close on the plant meter. I hope to have a beta published in a couple weeks and I am looking forward to Scoll and the rest of your recommendations .

Seems like you're making good progress, I know those bunkers and trees may be tedious, but it’ll make the final product so much better. Thanks as always for your work!

Another great looking course, Mike! Going to try to get to this soon. Been so busy that I still haven't played Bandon yet. Hopefully this weekend. Really trying to make a push on Austin CC.

Well I finally got around to playing this today... thanks for your patience.
I thought the course was absolutely fantastic, and I really enjoyed my round. If I had one main comment, I’d say some of the plantings around the course, mainly the small trees and bushes, feel a bit too much like extra clutter and sometimes don’t fit very well. So I’d say just open it up a little and get rid of all the bushes you don’t see in google earth and other aerials. What’s funny is that the plantings actually feel a bit sparse on some holes near the water, but that’s less big of a deal.
Another question is if there are any pine and cedar trees on the property in real life? I saw a few sprinkled through your course and they looked a bit out of place. Idk.
This course was seriously spectacular... these hole by hole comments are just nit picky things as always:
Hole 2 - seems like some of the trees especially up on the left by the creek and green don’t exist in real life, maybe just clear it up a bit.
Hole 10 - I think right off the tee to the left there’s a bit more trees covering the river and bank from sight... maybe fill it in a bit
Hole 11 - there’s that one small tree after the hazard on the left that I’m not sure if it should be there. Also fill up the bank next to the river a bit more.
Hole 18 - that tree on the right, right in front of the tee I think is a bit too encroaching... move it out a bit right so there’s more room to play to the right side of the fairway
Thanks as always for your work - this one turned out really well!
