I spent the morning in the ER again today. Another morning coughing up blood but not from covid-19, just bronchitis not fully gone yet but the good news is no pneumonia either. They told me to chill out and take it easy. I told them i am my wife's caretaker so taking it easy isn't an option on most days. They said make it one, she will be fine. lol. So more time for PS4 I guess. Of course I had to ask them about their preparedness for covid again. Their only concern right now is not enough ventilators once we start experiencing our spike and apex in Northern Nevada. My nurse said they have enough PPE for the immediate future. I didn't ask her to define "immediate future". I think we are as ready as we can be here in Reno. Our mayor and our governor have paid close attention to NY, NJ and other states dilemmas and have tried to be proactive from their experiences. But we are still going to see people get sick and die. How well we listen collectively to staying home will determine how much we mitigate it. Smh at Florida and Georgia leadership. The Georgia governor said he didn't know the virus cold spread via those without symptoms until 24 hours ago. WTH? This kind of ignorance in leadership is why so many more will die. So heartbreaking. I hope everyone here stays safe and healthy. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I BEG of you as your friend, video game golf colleague and compassionate human being who only wants the best for all of you, obey the proper guidelines from medical professionals. This is not something that just happens to other people. Get a mask, make a mask, however you can make that happen, just do it. It won't hurt but it could help. Do it for the same reason our health professionals wear one. Just save the N95's for them. Telling people to get a mask or make mask is well totally wrong. First you take away from the first responders second it's false hope. If you wear a mask you will touch your face more. Only our high risk people and front liners should wear masks. Making your own is completely stupid. It will accomplish nothing. Just like making your own hand sanitizer. Minus pouring everclear/moonshine on your hands you have no idea wtf you are doing. Wash your hands a lot stay away from direct human contact/surfaces. Especially clean your phone. A lot. A ton. Like it has the zombie apocalypse on it. Change your clothes immediately if you work when you get home. A lot if this is common sense. Which after all this done is I hope more people practice. But hey what do I know.

It will increase the spread. Masks don't fit correctly and people will touch their face more. Plus it creates a false positive. People will think they are safe. Hence hands to the face. Rinse repeat.
If you don't touch your face the odds are good you won't get sick.

Masks are a two way street. It keeps you from spreading it, especially when you don't know if you have it or not (that is the #1 reason wot wear one - you may have covid and not know it yet) and it keeps you from breathing in any aerosol droplets.
This is not in lieu of the other protections we should take like washing hands, social distancing and not touching your face, it is in addition to it.
Mayor Hillary Schieve
@mayorschieve
This is no time to be vain @cityofreno
Everyone should wear one to protect yourself and others. This does not mean you get a free pass to be out and about, this is for essential activity. Remember N95 masks should be donated to our healthcare workers and frontlines!

Ok. Gl. People will now hoard masks even more. And again they will touch their face more. Way more. No debating that.
This is a republic not a democracy. States should have plans for pandemics. NY California and Illinois are high targets for terrosim. Blaming federal government for a states failure is not what we are about . It shows how unprepared we are for a bio attacks / Cyber . Americans live in a fantasy world. Toilet paper is their biggest concern.
I hope you feel better though bro. I know you and your wife have been through a lot lately and I have respect for you.
Just wanted to say that before the ban barn hits me again. Hopefully permanent this time. 👍

We are native east coasters (Philly and NYC) so we'are tough as nails Appreciate the concern though bud, thank you. People don't have to hoard masks, they can make their own. I have the same one the hospital gave me last week that I'm still using. I did not request a new one today. I didn't need to. I give it a Lysol spray after each use. My wife is making her own out of a bandana, There are a ton of youtube videos for this. The N95s should be left for medical pros only. In fact, companies that sell them shouldn't sell them to the general public at all.

If you recall I'm NY born (Rochester NY) and raised and my wife is as well. East coast is some of the toughest people I know.
I don't agree on masks at all. You don't want to know what my wife said.
Anyway glad you are ok .

Anyway glad you are ok . Sure, tell me what your wife said. Then I can tell you what my daughter said. You aren't the only one here who has family that works in a hospital. I'm sure there are several of us actually. It's common sense to me though. If you wear a mask, you are limiting what comes in and what goes out of your mouth and nose. I mean, that is common sense right? Why does your wife, my daughter and their co-workers, including treating doctors, all wear masks right now? I think you are missing the big picture here.

As a non-medical person, the one thing I would find a plus if I were to have a mask on at work is that I will stop touching my own face directly so much! Been promised we will be afforded masks "soon" at our essential job...

Claim: ‘Face masks don’t work’
Wearing a face mask is certainly not an iron-clad guarantee that you won’t get sick – viruses can also transmit through the eyes and tiny viral particles, known as aerosols, can penetrate masks. However, masks are effective at capturing droplets, which is a main transmission route of coronavirus, and some studies have estimated a roughly fivefold protection versus no barrier alone (although others have found lower levels of effectiveness).
If you are likely to be in close contact with someone infected, a mask cuts the chance of the disease being passed on. If you’re showing symptoms of coronavirus, or have been diagnosed, wearing a mask can also protect others. So masks are crucial for health and social care workers looking after patients and are also recommended for family members who need to care for someone who is ill – ideally both the patient and carer should have a mask.
However, masks will probably make little difference if you’re just walking around town or taking a bus so there is no need to bulk-buy a huge supply.

Allow me to repeat myself.... with some emphasis on the important "why's" - especially on a bus or other public transportation. Masks are a two way street. It keeps you from spreading it, especially when you don't know if you have it or not (that is the #1 reason to wear one - you may have covid and not know it yet) and it keeps you from breathing in any aerosol droplets.

You are right, no need for that. I said DIY them If the above doesn't make any sense to people then I have nothing else to offer except, good luck and stay safe. As far as I'm concerned, any little thing that can help keep someone safe should be considered, no matter how small it may seem.... because dying is one hell of an alternative.

Last week gov. said no need for masks, this week they say use them...this is POOR leadership. Not blaming any one person just the overall, we have no clue what to do admin. They continually give us misinformation and then turn around and tell us the opposite shortly after.
Not a political rant just the honest truth in a time when misinformation is NOT needed.

I have an N99 reusable mask that I bought last year specifically because I have bad allergies, I use it to mow and do outdoor stuff in the spring and fall. I've been using it and disposable gloves off and on when I have to go into an area that I feel might have germs running around. It makes me look like some kind of ninja, but it fits tightly, is very comfortable, and has valves that don't fog up my glasses.
My wife sews, and she has been making her own masks, and some for our daughter in law who works for medical profession. (not gonna get into who's relatives know more simply because they work at hosptials, lol) But my wife did research the proper way to make masks, and proper materials to use. But that aside, my wife cleans buildings for a living, some of them being factories with chemicals and dust. Before shut most of it down (part of it is still working because THEY have converted the cushion sewing part over to making masks) she wore her DIY masks to work, and when she came home, she told me after this is all over, she is going to continue wearing her DIY masks. Because she was amazed at how much better she felt after wearing her masks, while simply doing her cleaning job.
One more thing, I don't get. What is the specific reason to not touch your face? I've heard that the virus can't seep through your skin, so if you get it on your hands, you are ok as long as you wash your hands before touching your face. So what is the difference between your face and your hands? If you touch your cheek, or your earlobe, can the virus germs crawl that far? By the logic I've heard, its sounds to me like it should be more like, don't touch the inside of your ears, your mouth, nose, or eyes, instead of touching your face in general? What am I missing there?
