The federal government has no authority or precedent to quarantine just one city, or area, or state. NYC has the authority to quarantine NYC, New York State has the authority to quarantine the whole state but not just one city in it. The Federal government has the authority to quarantine the country but no individual state or city. The federal government can and should meet with local leaders on the state and city level to come up with a plan for quarantine, but that's as far as it goes and it hasn't happened. Just so there's no confusion. I literally said he couldn't enforce a quarantine. The "halfway house" thing I was talking about, where you can stop people going in and out of the city is called "cordon sanitaire" and it is a law... Like I said to Nevada, a bunch of things are being discussed, hypothesised etc. That's where I was talking about opinion or interpretation. I know the states are making their own decisions on lockdowns, based on law; the overall situation is not quite as simple as that though... It is not "law". At least not in the USA. It might be where you are though, I don't know. It is, as i said, up to the states. Trump has no legal say in what they do and he cannot close down a city. The Feds have very limited powers in this area. Does The Federal Government Have The Power To Shut Down A Major City?
Under our federalist constitutional system, primary public health powers (“police powers”) reside with the states, not the national government. While we are currently witnessing the largest federal quarantine in modern history stemming from evacuations from Wuhan and cruise ships (the last federal quarantine was 50 years ago for a suspected case of smallpox), the federal government has very narrow quarantine powers. There are no broad national quarantine powers like those exercised in China and Italy; the US federal government can only act to prevent the spread of COVID-19 into the US or between states. States have the primary quarantine authority, so any compulsory order would be a state or local decision.Would A Mass Quarantine Be Lawful And Constitutional?A mass cordon sanitaire would violate state public health statutes, as well as core constitutional safeguards. Courts certainly would uphold well-targeted isolation (individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2) or quarantine (individuals known to be exposed), but large-scale restrictions of liberty would be overbroad and disproportionate. Civil commitment of persons with mental illness is an apt model. The Supreme Court calls civil commitment a “massive curtailment of liberty,” requiring individualized risk assessments based on clear and convincing evidence. Quarantine for tuberculosis, as one court explained, “impinges on the right to ‘liberty, full and complete liberty,’ no less than involuntary commitment for being mentally ill.” States must also demonstrate no less restrictive alternative exists and guarantee due process of law. Mass quarantines are too blunt a tool, sweeping up many people who pose no risk to the public. Even under a declared public health emergency, it is hard to envisage the courts upholding such a far-reaching restriction of liberty. There would be consequences for people like ministers who ignore the common sense and rally hundreds or thousands of people to gather in one place and jeopardize their well-being.. In Tampa, Florida on Sunday, a large group of people gathered at River at Tampa Bay Church for Pastor Rodney Howard-Browne's services.
The pastor, who was arrested on Monday and charged with unlawful assembly and a violation of health emergency rules, hosted the services despite public orders urging residents to stay home. "His reckless disregard for human life put hundreds of people in his congregation at risk," Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said at a news conference. "As well as put thousands of residents who may interact with them in danger."

Nothing but idiotic religious mentality (or cult worship) is behind people who feel the need to praise a loving entity that is allowing the deaths of humans. Stay at home is being told to people for a reason...do these cultists truly believe they are free from a virus because of a gawd? ****************************************************** Question to all of my fellow golfers/form readers.. When all is said and done and we are free from the virus (until it pops up again in the fall/winter) are you going to become a "prepper"? Are you going to stockpile items that last a long time? Not hoard, just stockpile. My basement is cool year round, almost like a root cellar except it is full sized. I'm not sure if I will become a full on "prepper" but I am going to look into storing those items that are in short supply right now, once we get past this.

But I think everyone should probably have some items always in storage in case of any emergency, i.e., earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, wild fires. I'd recommend keeping them in something mobile that you can pick up and go in a hurry if needed like a couple of suitcases. hurricanes and wild fires are not going to wait for you to pack Also items in the trunk of your car like water, a lighter, some canned goods, blankets and a first aid kit. I wouldn't build a bomb shelter or buy a crap load of weapons though.

I think we all need to have a great laugh right now. I posted a youtube video on the politicos forum as it has offensive language (to some) but it is hilarious if you like Robin Williams...it's about the origins of golf Enjoy = GOLF

My lawyer got me out of the ban barn. Real life it's 400 a hour. Here 5 cents.
Wife has two co workers with CV19. On ventilators. She is now in charge of ICU in a pandemic nursing protocol.
Business wise it's interesting. Bought a whole 55 gallon drum of hand sanitizer because we can't buy less. 2300. Can't find hand pumps though. I'd give some to members here if I could. Hard to ship though. Dot regs are complicated.
Going to spend 2300 on testing product vs coronavirus on surfaces. Have had high success vs Bacteria and mold.
We also supply some of the biggest hospital bed manufacturing companies .
Trying our best here. Hope everyone is doing ok.

FRSTDWN's lawyers aren't giving him the right advice, or he's ignoring it.
Coming back from a ban and IMMEDIATELY sending pathetic abusive PMs to people because you realise he's not going to give you the engagement you so desperately need in the public threads, isn't the way to go. (I didn't reply.)
Obviously his private trolling has worked, because he's getting my attention again now, but I want people to know how pathetic he is...(that's the last I'll say on it!)

That chart is definitely a WOW and most certainly not because of seasonal adjustment. This is what is going to hurt the most. If this "stay at home" advisory stays in effect for weeks/months, the economy is going to tank in a depression sort of way. Let's hope they can come up with something/anything to help the world recover. I have only left the house for groceries and getting the wife to her essential job. Minimal contact with anyone I see and the grandkids/family haven't come by in a few weeks. This is akin to some of the books on surviving a pandemic/apocalypse and how they always start out "small". King's The Stand is the book to read for good reading whilst stuck at home.

I spent the morning in the ER again today. Another morning coughing up blood but not from covid-19, just bronchitis not fully gone yet but the good news is no pneumonia either. They told me to chill out and take it easy. I told them i am my wife's caretaker so taking it easy isn't an option on most days. They said make it one, she will be fine. lol. So more time for PS4 I guess. Of course I had to ask them about their preparedness for covid again. Their only concern right now is not enough ventilators once we start experiencing our spike and apex in Northern Nevada. My nurse said they have enough PPE for the immediate future. I didn't ask her to define "immediate future". I think we are as ready as we can be here in Reno. Our mayor and our governor have paid close attention to NY, NJ and other states dilemmas and have tried to be proactive from their experiences. But we are still going to see people get sick and die. How well we listen collectively to staying home will determine how much we mitigate it. Smh at Florida and Georgia leadership. The Georgia governor said he didn't know the virus cold spread via those without symptoms until 24 hours ago. WTH? This kind of ignorance in leadership is why so many more will die. So heartbreaking. I hope everyone here stays safe and healthy. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I BEG of you as your friend, video game golf colleague and compassionate human being who only wants the best for all of you, obey the proper guidelines from medical professionals. This is not something that just happens to other people. Get a mask, make a mask, however you can make that happen, just do it. It won't hurt but it could help. Do it for the same reason our health professionals wear one. Just save the N95's for them.

Hope all goes well for you, Jimmy ( nevadaballin). There's a lot of good people on this forum, and in this thread, but from the interactions I've had with you, you're definitely one of the most genuinely nice people here. Stay strong, brother.
