I have an N99 reusable mask that I bought last year specifically because I have bad allergies, I use it to mow and do outdoor stuff in the spring and fall. I've been using it and disposable gloves off and on when I have to go into an area that I feel might have germs running around. It makes me look like some kind of ninja, but it fits tightly, is very comfortable, and has valves that don't fog up my glasses.
My wife sews, and she has been making her own masks, and some for our daughter in law who works for medical profession. (not gonna get into who's relatives know more simply because they work at hosptials, lol) But my wife did research the proper way to make masks, and proper materials to use. But that aside, my wife cleans buildings for a living, some of them being factories with chemicals and dust. Before shut most of it down (part of it is still working because THEY have converted the cushion sewing part over to making masks) she wore her DIY masks to work, and when she came home, she told me after this is all over, she is going to continue wearing her DIY masks. Because she was amazed at how much better she felt after wearing her masks, while simply doing her cleaning job.
One more thing, I don't get. What is the specific reason to not touch your face? I've heard that the virus can't seep through your skin, so if you get it on your hands, you are ok as long as you wash your hands before touching your face. So what is the difference between your face and your hands? If you touch your cheek, or your earlobe, can the virus germs crawl that far? By the logic I've heard, its sounds to me like it should be more like, don't touch the inside of your ears, your mouth, nose, or eyes, instead of touching your face in general? What am I missing there?
You make a great point on the masks. A lot people wear masks for a variety of reasons which were not to spread a virus but to not get one - or something else. Many of those people weren't even in the medical field. Cleaners like your wife, spray painters, landscapers, workers in high dust areas, etc. They don't wear their masks because they don't want to contaminate an area with their breath or germs. They were them because they don't want to fill their lungs with cleaner agents or dust. It's sensible. As for not touching your face. We aren't always in a place where we can wash our hands or have a sanitizer right away. If we are at a grocery store for instance and just shopping the aisles. Someone picks up an item to read the label and puts it back. Another person does it with the same box and then another person. Then you. Further into the shopping trip you have to adjust your mask or it causes an itch and the virus gets in through your ears or an opening while adjusting the mask. That can eventually reach your lungs. "Ear, nose and throat" doctors are a thing because those can affect the respiratory system. For your eyes, >> www.kimdoanmd.com/blog/the-coronavirus-how-it-can-affect-your-eyesBefore the pandemic, I didn't realize how much of a face toucher I was (my own, not other people's, that would be creepy lol). I have a mustache and short beard that itch from time to time that contributes to it. If we all behaved like we are presently carrying the virus and acted accordingly, we would flatten this curve quickly and start getting back to normal a hell of lot sooner.

nevadaballin I hear ya on the beard and mustache thing, same thing here. What makes it worse right now is right before all this started, I was clearing some brush and got poison ivy, or one of them things, on my neck and in my ears. (not the first time this has happened, no worries on treating it) BUT, it itches like crazy, and before I've realized it, there I am gently scratching my ear. I told my wife she's gonna have to get one of those dog cones of shame and put on me!!
Oh and you mentioned all the people that touch your groceries before you do. Yesterday was grocery day for us. This is the first time in our married history, that we actually disinfected/washed our groceries before we brought them in. The fruits and vegetables, always, but never before now have we ever done every single box and package.

Lol, i have a "cone of shame" around here somewhere you can use. We've been laying out groceries out on the counter and giving them a spray of Lysol, washing our hands, putting the groceries away a few minutes later and then washing our hands again. Also as a reminder for us, i have a bottle of sanitizer on our counter and I printed a sign to put in front of it that says "Sanitize!" I know it sounds like we are going a little overboard but we are among the most vulnerable. We can be safe or we will be sorry.

Ontario released their projection model numbers today detailing the expected cases and deaths in this province with current policies in place, if further intervention is taken, and if we had done nothing at all. Nice to see some actual numbers attached to give a visual idea of what help our current actions have done to help minimize what could have been, but also depressing to see that we’ve barely scratched the surface of how many will get sick and die over the next 18-24 months. www.cp24.com/mobile/news/experts-project-between-3-000-and-15-000-deaths-in-ontario-due-to-covid-19-1.4880754

My local golf course which was having a hard time financially before this. Leagues cancelled but you can walk it. Huge loss of revenue . A lot of golf courses will probably not survive this. Expect more house development on some or Walmarts. Sadly. Hopefully my course makes it. It's pretty awesome.

What's so funny.

She came back with a Red Dead Redemption joke for robbing a train. You know i don't mean any harm to your friends and I hope their business survives. But more than that, I hope they remain healthy, as I do with everyone.

I'm beginning to get wore out with the constant barrage of bad news.

Now we are supposed to wear a mask..First find one somewhere, anywhere, same with gloves.
As to the rob a bank comment, my wife is a banker and when I told her your comment she replied with, now you know why we shut our front door and are only doing drive up and ATM and starting next week, 5 hour days. Sure it is also for health but it was first brought up when customers came in the bank and since they have a standing rule of remove hats and sunglasses, those customers with masks said, no we will keep our masks on.
