I wrote recently about potentially doing Bandon Dunes as my next project, and after investigating and beginning to put the data together it looks worthwhile. I am showing a few images of the first hole comparing it to the real thing. I have only done a little of the planting (mostly around the traps) so don't pay to much attention to that. It seems to me the terrain matches the real thing pretty well. The view from the first tee. I will update occasionally.

Great! (More brown needed?) It would be nice Leon, and I have not finalized the textures at all. The course is on the Oregon coast and I am pretty sure depends on local rainfall which is plentiful except for summer. Some of the photos of the course are green, some are washed out. Unfortunately both of the "brown" grass textures available in the designer are really bad looking to me. I will have to figure out what to do as I get closer to the release.

I assumed there was an issue like this. Looks great anyway!

Works well for fairways and rough, not as much for greens

This looks great Mike, definitely one to look forward to. I'm amazed at how some of you guys can do quality work in such a short time. I've been working on Austin Country Club for over 4 months now and I probably still have 4-6 weeks left to be ready to publish. Kudos!

As for how I do this so quickly I refer you to the quote under the Colts golf ball for my avatar - I am a retired old fart so have plenty of time. I know most of the rest of the designers here have a job and other hobbies.

Looking for input from you all. There is a green-side "pot-type" bunker on hole #6, shown on the top left of the picture. The other three views are what I have built to simulate it, without altering the green terrain. Do you think it is OK, or should I just put a regular bunker in instead?

Quick update on the WIP. Looking at photos and Google Earth overheads as well as the Bandon Dunes blog, there have been a fair number of modifications done to the course, mostly the fairway bunkering, but some other stuff as well. They seem to have added a lot of cart paths, which were not in the original plan. I am trying to make my version as the course is in mid 2019, so quite a bit of the OSM tracing has to be discarded. This will certainly lengthen the amount of time to make the course, and since the Lidar data is from 2009, I may not get some of the terrain exactly right.

Weirdest thing, I am at work and noticed this calender hanging on a buyers wall. Looked at it and it was all these wild looking dunes for a golf Course. What is it it, of all places Bandon Dunes. Fantastic looking course. I only wish I could figure out the Lidar way of doing courses. I've read more and more and just get more confused about it the more I read. Looking good so far, just another old fart myself looking forward to more courses to try and design.

Did they update the LiDar data? Last summer it was old. Example, the punchbowl didnt exist yet.
