As I stated in the WGC post, I have no idea if ball squirt is a thing or not. All I know is that in the past week I have gotten significantly worse at the game, with seemingly no explanation or way to figure out how to get better. It's not as if I have never been good, or have been in a slow decline for awhile. I was in line for a top 10 finish last week, and then all of a sudden in the last round I couldn't get anywhere near the hole on approaches, and strange things were happening. It has only continued with every round since. I have no issue with randomness, and I would prefer that a great round is regularly around -9 or so, as opposed to -15. I want to be able to compete, though, and I want to be able to improve or identify weaknesses in my game to fix. I can't do that right now, and it's frustrating as a competitor, because I can't turn off my competitiveness and just be content with whatever I shoot. I honestly don't even care what the problem is, how many people it affects, or what the fix is. I just want to be able to explain my good scores and my bad scores, and at least have a strategy to improve my game. well said... Bang on!! That's the frustration definately

I've had ball squirt, but when it happened I figured my controller sticks were worn out. I play a lot of fps and the sticks definitely do get worn out and loose. I replaced the controller and haven't seen the problem since.
I would think a test to see if it is truly and connection problem and not a controller problem is to use one of those zero axis controllers and see if you get any squirting. If there is still squirting, it's obviously something other than the controller.
As for the randomness, I disagree to that. I would prefer they add more "randomness" to the effects put on the ball, such as wind and lie. I think the actual swing should determine the accuracy. Like you hit a dead on straight line, with zero wind and dead flat lie, it should go precisely where it's aimed. I do think they need to have downhill and uphill lies affecting, as irl these have a big effect on the shot. Also the wind is a bit of a joke, it is way too predictable and steady. You really shouldn't be able to compute wind effect down to the yard. Just my opinion, but the elements should produce randomness, not the actual swing.

Sorry to be so stupid, what exactly is ball squirt? Is that when the ball flies the opposite direction of where it should based on wind, and swing quality?

it's when you hit a relatively straight line shot and it shoots right or left of the target right off the club face

And I agree with the other things you mentioned after this, about lie affecting the result. That would be more life-like, than putting random errors into the result!

Funny how the "Ball Squirt" issue has become more and more prevalent since the original post on the subject. Maybe we should create a "Ball Squirt Locker Room", trademark pending, for all the "Ball Squirt" followers to sit around and bemoan the current condition of "Ball Squirt". More and more people come on board each day and begin to overly analyze their shots. There will almost always be some kind of "Ball Squirt" to be talked about. I played my first round of the Bushtail Valley Open and got my lowest score to date in 6-12 mph winds. I proceeded to play my next three rounds in the same conditions all 3 in a row and never really replicated that score. Was there "Ball Squirt" more on the later rounds? Not really sure as I didn't really have any real head scratching as to ball flight. It was really that my putting was better on my first round. Was there ball squirt on my putting. There always seems to be a bit of this for me but it's really me not hitting the ball with the putter's club face evenly. I realized this afterwards as I was more nervous the last 3 rounds as I was not playing my game but trying to replicate an earlier round. Sometimes I wonder if some of it might have to do with camera drift because of controller drift. I'm sure HB Studios is aware of the "Ball Squirt Brigade",trademark pending as well, and since I have always seen HB Studios recognize and work on and fix issues with the game then I'll leave it to them to come up with a solution along with Valve. HB has always done right by me before so I'll leave it to them to find and/or fix the issue. My point is this has been reported already and if there is an issue the developers will try to find a solution. As for those new to TGC and TGCT you will have a choice to make. Join "Ball Squirt", Oppose "Ball Squirt" or Ignore "Ball Squirt".
Also I remember when I actually used to play competitive sports I would sometimes go into what players call a slump. I could never really explain why and plenty of athletes have devised many a ritual to get them out of it; some even go see sports physiologists to get the hex off of them. So sometimes you will go through a slump and not be able to explain the drop off. I'll be curious to see if this could be the case for TGC as well, which to be honest is a wonderful thing.
Disclaimer: I can not deny or confirm that "Ball Squirt" exists. I rely on the fact that the issue has been reported and will be dealt with accordingly.

Just a thought but maybe the higher ranked players notice it more because they can hit a straight shot to notice it happening.

I feel the same way as the original post, but was a little scared to say anything in fear of getting my head bit off. The game is too easy anyway. If there is a squirt here or there it actually would help the game represent the real life sport a little better. No need to be scared, many people have posted an opposing position without calling other people liars and stupid. Tim included, he has been clear from the get go his position. You and everyone should be free to express any opinion you wish and if you can do so without insinuating the other side is lying and/or stupid all the better. Personally I welcome such.
Edit: I just seen Tim called us Nuts in another thread. I know I'm nuts so will not take offense, but I would say, I believe anyone can make an opposing position without need for insulting remarks.

I just want to be able to explain my good scores and my bad scores, and at least have a strategy to improve my game. I too feel i'm in the same boat as you. I play close to 25 rounds a week and am seeing a decline, not an improvement. For me on my system, I can practice and shoot great. Go online and not so good. I sit there in disbelief. It's not like I have never played this golf game or others. All I know is when I first started playing, playing for a cross wind was pretty straight forward. Half a grid was 5mph and a full grid was 10-13 mph. But since the update, at least for me, all that has changed. I don't know if i'm seeing ball squirt but playing the same way now, with a dead straight swing, 5mph cross wind, say r-l and playing for it, dead straight ball flight , right in the water even though the marker was on the flag stick. Like I said to the wife, I don't even know what to play for anymore. I get it, I really do. Random is great. But have the randomness the same all the time. And I think, imho is the problem. What really gets to me is like above , if half a grid one way or the other is 5mph, then it should be that way all the time. All in all I like this game a lot and don't play much else. But this squirt, randomness whatever it is, is affecting a lot of people. I think what upsets people so much, like the post above is, at least for us, is to be able to identify a problem area and try to correct it. But it seems in my case nothing I do seems to matter. One day I was playing a round. I was -6 through 6 with 1-2 mph of wind. Wind picked up to 5-7 through the rest of the round. Finished at -9. Now, I play all the time in wind and at one time, After Tim was so kind to give out his secrets, things worked as he said in his instructions. Now, not so much. Just my two cents worth and what I have experienced.

It is fully understandable that any time you make what you think is a good shot and it doesn't go as you planned you are a bit upset. Sometimes you misread the slope or didn't account for the wind as much as you should. These are player mistakes and practice can overcome it.
Ball squirt has nothing to do with the skill of the player. I have tested extensively with angle snapping on so my fore and back swing are 100% perfect and this 'squirt' happens. When there is nothing you have done and nothing you can do and ball squirt happens, it can be infuriating, especially when the result is a 40 foot putt instead of a 4 foot putt.
All that being said, if it is across all platforms and it is something that every person has to deal with, then it is just a feature that we have to get used to and accept in a game that we pretty much all love to play. I can accept this.
I appreciate the efforts of people like Steve, who like me put many hours trying to figure out what exactly was causing this. We put this time in because 1. we love the game and 2. HBS has offered ZERO explanation or help on the issue. Steve has proposed that because in their own closed system studios they can't recreate it, they automatically believe it has to do with something outside their systems/servers. This is fair enough and if in the end it has to do with latency, loss packets, data transfer or whatever, then those people with better computers, better internet speeds, better firewalls, ect... are going to be effected less and there is NOTHING that Tim, Doyley or anyone else can do about this to make it 'fair' for everyone.
In the end I will just accept that some shots are going to have funky things happening and like real golf I'm going to have to adapt, adjust and probably make a longer putt. I will say there have been the odd occasion that ball squirt has helped me, so luck goes both ways.
