While Mahomes' talent is clear and he is showing to be worthy of being the starter and last year's MVP - the public, in general, despise excessive hype. Personally, I'm sick and tired of seeing his face every time I boot up Madden. I'm tired of pundits hugging his nuts like he is some kind of god. The kid has played one season. Show me a career first before putting him in the Hall of Fame. On another Chiefs' note - Tyreek Hill is a child abuser and should be in jail. Jimmy, if you look this year, Mahomes' numbers are actually a bit better. He may not hit 50 TD's through the air this season, but he is minimizing his turnovers this year compared to last, and will have thrown for similar yards and completion percentage as last year. I agree with you that he needs to maintain this form for many seasons to be in the Hall of Fame, but he has not done anything this season to jeopardize that. I thoroughly enjoy watching him though as he is a heck of a nice kid with so much humility and maturity beyond his years. He is a class act which is refreshing for athletes these days. Yep, the talent is there and his baseball experience has created some unique throws ala Brett Favre but the jury will be out for at least 5 -7 years. I remember his father as a strong MLB pitcher so I'm not shocked at the arm at all. The stats are just numbers to me. I mean, a QB can throw the ball 60 times for 500 yds and 5 TDs but that doesn't mean he is great. It means his team was probably losing and they had to throw it that much. His staying power and success won't be from a physical standpoint. It will be how he mentally handles professional and personal adversities when they come along. One of those adversities is going to be Andy Reid at some point. I know this form being an Eagles fan. Your team will compete and look great in the Regular Season but when the playoffs come, expect to choke in the Conference Championship game. Andy gets inside his own head too much the closer he gets to a Super Bowl. The one he was in with McNabb as a QB, he couldn't handle the game clock and it cost us the title vs NE that year. It got so frustrating as a fan I start a club called FART (Fire Andy Reid Today). He was subsequently let go and I see the same things happening in KC now. Gathered Talent. Win Reg season games. Make the playoffs. Go home. Rinse and repeat. At some point, Chiefs fans will tire of it also. Question is, how long before Mahomes tires of it? And I'm still sick and tired of seeing Mahomes' face everywhere.

I didn't read all of this but I would say part of the problem with sports fans is they listen to morons on TV. Like Joe Buck or the guy on Monday night whatever his name is. They have very little football knowledge and sound like idiots. I heard the guy on Monday night the other week literally say ...the guy threw the ball to the other guy and the other guy tackled him. I turned the game off.
Madden was awesome and Gruden wasn't far behind. Always like Rich Gannon as well.

I live in probably one of the countries with the most unfair fans of the world. Seriously. Cause we are a country of people who wants and loves only who wins NOW (look what we do when we are involved in some war, for example. We start being on a side..then we wait to see who is going to win..then some week before the end of the war we join the winner ) I could say hundreds of absurd stories of sport..that with sport or being a fan have simply nothing to share. Just two thoughts : 1) I don't know how it works elsewhere, but here the media are the first who pushes people to embrace this miserable attitude. And it works on every sport. A Sunday you are a god. Next week you can be good just for the retire. People is pushed to act and think like a$sholes. No talking about their competence, really often. Of both, media and fans. 2) Here, sportsmen's attitude don't helps so much to "educate" fans. One of the reasons why i almost stopped to follow soccer, is that here in Italy there is a disgusting attitude for the simulation, the little dirty trick that here is considered smartness, while is just miserable. I spent all my childhood playing soccer..and I can swear that to make me fall you should kill me. Twice. Now I see these guys perfectly sculpted, supertrained with three turtles on their stomach, who constantly rolls on the field for minutes when you caress them..or if some wind blows. Jesus..Sometimes I wish to play with some of those guys just for 43 seconds. Neymar is my wet dream, about this thing. I wish just the time to enter on the field, show him what A FOUL is, then I would be banned for life from every field. But I bet he could learn the lesson. If two of my soccer heroes are Vinnie Jones and Edgar Davids (the only player of which I ever had and still have the orange shirt, number 17 of the Netherlands in the world cup 1998, if I remember well), there is a reason, after all

Sports taps into a primal emotion, so it isn't surprising at all that we react to them as we do. There isn't much rationality involved, yet, we are so invested. These over-the-top statements are a reflection of that emotion.

Patrick Mahomes. Phenomenal talent. Wish the Bills would have taken him but traded out of that spot. Josh Allen has promise. Heard about this bold prediction from Deion the other day...

These over-the-top statements are a reflection of that emotion. Is true. But is also sad, in some way. Cause sport shouldn't be about this. The passion is beautiful, but without fairness..some true love and respect for the sports you follow and loves, passion matters zero. In the forums of the Italian sports sites (mainly but not only about soccer..yes, for soccer everything is elevated to potency, but is the same also for every other sport), under every article I can find only insults for the opponents and stupid childish statements. Is almost impossible to find quotes like "yes, my team has been defeated last game, but is fine cause our opponents played way better than us. Well done, cheers, we'll see next time etc". There is simply a series of complaints (about players, manager, referee, weather, humidity, how tall is the grass, everything stupid you can imagine) and the possibility to just accept a bad result is no barely contemplated. And rivalry is something creepy, also. For a lot of people, is often more important that the "hated" team lose than the loved team wins. Everything is..just twisted. Sport...and to be a fan, should never be like this. Sport should teach (and it could..and it already do it, actually) a lot of good things..about myself and the others. About the sacrifices, the patience, about how to improve. About the fact that talent is often nothing without discipline. Sports for me (and I mean really every sport, also those I don't like and/or understand) are one of the best things we have, as humanity. It wouldn't ever be just a way to pull out all the sh!t we have inside. The worst we have.

Romo is great. I really like listening to him. He gives so much insight, and explains things in a way that the average person can understand, yet doesn't come across as condescending. And does it all with just the right amount of humor.
I can't stand listening to Buck and Aikman. Only thing good about their games is that they show Erin Andrews every once in a while.

best thing about Romo is we get to listen to him for 30 something years. He is just getting started. And Joe can go Buck himself lol

Away from the thread topic a little bit... last month I took my 4 year old daughter to her first ever football (soccer to our North American friends) match. Stoke City Community Trust gave us a stadium tour and match tickets for the Leeds United game. We both really enjoyed the stadium tour, with my daughter particularly enjoying sitting high up in the stand, sitting in the dugout and standing in the training goal at the side of the pitch. What she didn't enjoy was tripping over a safety cover that protected electric cables and grazing her knee on the small running track that surrounds the pitch. The irony of a safety feature causing an injury! When it came to the match, Stoke were terrible and deservedly lost 3-0. I walked away from the ground glad that I haven't been to any other match in the last 15 years and wondering why the Stoke fans pay to watch sh%$ like that every week. My daughter loved the whole experience and was already asking me when we can go again. That day is coming tomorrow. The community trust have given her a match ticket for the Fulham game, though this time I have to pay for myself. The selfish part of me sees this as a total waste of money. However, I love my daughter more than anything and I know she's going to really enjoy herself so I'm happy to take her. I'll have to try and persuade her to start watching Redgate Clayton F.C. who are literally a five minutes walk from our house. They play in the Staffordshire County Senior League and you don't have to pay to watch them.

I tell ya, if I was a NFL football player, I would not allow myself on the cover of Madden for any amount of money. Doesn't even matter what you believe about curses, just look at the statistics. LOL
I have Mahomes in two fantasy leagues, one of which is was on o contender track currently only had one loss. sigh. but I love watching him play, and yes, the NFL does need him, so hoping its not serious, and he is back soon.
