^ totally echo this. Planting may take ages, but it's of little value if the gameplay aspect is not up to scratch

Fair points and I agree the track itself is by far the most important part. I can just do that part much faster than planting at this point in my designer career. I'm much more confident about delivering there vs. making it not look like crap

I agree with Ben. You are better off making the course play well than making it look spectacular. No point the course looking really good if the holes seem disjointed and not in tune with each other, slopes all over the place and greens too difficult. I have played courses on CGC that were just that, looked really impressive but too hard to play shots and get a rhythm going. Holes so different from one to next that they shouldn't even be on the same course as each other. That is how I design, making the holes transition nicely, offer good shot value with some strategy involved and then planting just enough so it isn't bare but not going overboard as it is too time consuming. You can sometimes get better looks with less planting then spending hours on a hole and planting heavily.

Some quick updates. The theme redesign has gone well and I'm happy with 90% of the layout of the course. A few tweaks to be made on the back 9 holes but it's getting closer. The goal is to have a beta course published with about 3 weeks to go in the design contest. This should give me enough time to review the feedback and make changes/playtest. Here's a few screenshots of some holes pre-planting polish, which is always my last death march phase of designing a course. 9 is still a little washed out lighting wise but that'll be addressed in the next design session.

3rd hole looks stunning, and your teeing off with an iron on a Par 4 which presumably means there’s some options off the tee. Just be careful with the craggy hills on the short Par 4, they don’t look very natural at the moment. I quite like the lighting on the Par 3, particularly how it rests on the bunkers, but it may look different in game. Looking really good 👍🏻

Thanks for the kind words and feedback, appreciate it!
Shaving down those cragg rocks is definitely on the to do list, that area of the track is where I'm headed next.
Will post up a few more screens later this week of some other holes. Really hoping to get a beta out soon, TGC Tours being in hiatus helps.

Lots to like here - good work! As Riotous says, the bunker on 3 looks really nice and it's clear you've done a lot of good work with your green sites. Keep it up!

Mount Mescalero is published! Will update this post with the completed course thread once I've finished the screenshots and write up.
Edit: 1 (working on screens) "Mount Mescalero is located on an American Indian reservation. It's designed to feel like a hike through a mountain valley using as much of the natural landscape as possible. A resort style course that offers you very short scoreable par 5's and challenging longer par 3's. Golfers should expect to shoot under par and enjoy themselves even on the most challenging 4th pin set. "
