Picking your favourite hole from each course is a good idea and then from that we could come up with a designer dream 18. We could also limit each course in the final 18 of only having 2 holes so that more courses have a chance of getting a hole in. Restrictions for contests will always limit the number of entrants but not eliminate the 'gap'as someone who may not have published much may have been secretly trying new skills and techniques and refining things without anyone knowing especially if they don't stream, whereas someone else who may not have done much but does stream and getting 'live'feedback may not be as good and gap will still exist. I think moat of us went into this contest not necessarily trying to win but to get feedback on how they are designing and what improvements can be made to create tour worthy courses or at least get them approved for the database. I have only played 3 courses so far and have made some notes and will get around to sending pm's to the designers of what I liked and what I didn't like, but the quality of each course is up there and I don't envy the judges having to try and decide what courses make the cut in each round let alone awarding a winner True Dave..... although this may be a contest I dont think anoyone is going into this knowing or thinking they are going to win...... I didnt...... I was here hoping to improve... hoping to get feedback... hoping to publish a good course.... hoping to get plays..... hoping to make a name so my next courses are played without flooding the thread  ....... hoping to be a contender...hoping to impress the judges...hoping to perhaps be on tour... hoping for a good result..... BUT all I can really say is guys that I hope to see and speak to some of you guys after this contest regardless of who wins or kicked out first.I've already followed all of you so keep the WIPs and comments coming. I've already started my new project, hope you follow along. |

Hi all, about picking your favorite holes. If someone was to put a list together of all the 18 holes you guys choose,course name and who picked the hole i would be more than happy to stitch a fly through or play through of these holes, just a thought.

Doing your own course should be easy as you should know which ones you liked when designing. Playing the other courses is where it gets fun though.

I never actually took note of my time, but I worked on Mulligan Grove at least 4 or 5 days each week at probably 3-4 hours at a time, so I'd say I was probably in the ballpark of 200+ hours.
I feel I was a little better with overall time laying down the holes initially before I went back to fine tune, this was definitely due to the XP I got just coming off the CC Design Challenge..(Ref: Stony Point GC)
I've got a (Tour) version of Mulligan Grove about ready to pub pending any more feedback, and I've started work on my next course - Mulligan Ridge...Contemplating whether or not to throw my hat into the ring for the upcoming World Cup of Design Contest. I know I'll be heavily outclassed, but that is, I feel, the way for me to push to become better..

You don’t need to play all 17 courses And you don’t need to be a participant I know I'm having a tough time remembering what hole numbers were my favorites. But i do remember what holes stood out. So i've been jumping through playthroughs to find each hole. For instance: I remembered my favorite hole on Royal Bahiir was a par 5 with a large bunker up the right. I could picture it and remember hitting the bunker on the approach. So I jumped through Patricks playthrough until i found it (took about 3 minutes). Same with Mulligan Grove, I can remember my 3 favorite holes, just not the order so i have to find them in the video. Saved the time of having to replay all of them right away. If this helps anyone. |
