Yeah, I'm not totally sure on mine. Probably 100 or so? A LOT of that was decision-making and deliberating though or changing my mind on things. The actual time spent designing, planting or constructing was relatively little compared to my previous ones, but loads more thought had to go into this one as I chose not play with elevation as much as I normally do, which made things tougher. Most holes went through four or five remodels at least as I just didn't like them. For example, hole 7 is probably my favourite ever par three I've built and 8 is the quirkiest par five I've got and I was so on the verge of giving up on both of them. For me, this course was proof that I really need to listen to my gut when I don't like something. Interestingly, I don't think I've heard more than two critiques from Matt or Reeb that I didn't contemplate at some point or other and either couldn't pull off or decided against. Progress

For me, this course was proof that I really need to listen to my gut when I don't like something. Yes, I agree with this completely. I did several redesigns of holes throughout. I completely changed the routing of the last 6 holes about 3 times as well.

Not a fan of the list your favourite rookie course idea for a whole host of psychological reasons. But I do like the idea of stirring up a bit of interest during the lull.
Hows about, publish your favourite hole from each course. One post each that copies the OP course list and then you add your favourite hole where the course designers name is? I’m sure we’ve all made one good hole each even if the other 17 are c**p? Let’s get everyone involved in some positive banter......

How many hours did it take everyone to complete their courses? Easily over 200 hours but it's really hard to say exactly. There were some days were I would spend 3 hours just on one green, sculpting then putting over and over just making tiny tweaks. Still not completely satisfied with all of them, but eventually you just have to release it and move on. Hopefully this process will be faster from now on. Wow.. I could see your course would have taken an age to do..... I'd say I was between +- 125 and 160 hours .... my fiancee would argue and say it took about 250 hours

Having done this contest last year and played about half the entrants' so far, this is definitely -at the very least- more of a "rookie" contest than last year's was.
I mean that with all good intent, as I was destroyed last year by the eventual champion who was not a rookie by any means of the word. It didn't faze me in the least, I was happy to find out more WHY I didn't move on from design perspective and learn from that instead of caring about who knocked me out.
I'm not sure if there's an actual point to this, I drink alot. Carry on.

I think my course took about 120ish hours or so. It's hard to say. I'd do some designing, drive myself insane flattening some piece of ground with a fuzzy brush, then go play some random courses, get an idea and go back to the designer, plant 4 pieces of grass, then back to fuzzy brush flattening. Then that cycle would start allllll over again. Not a fan of the list your favourite rookie course idea for a whole host of psychological reasons. But I do like the idea of stirring up a bit of interest during the lull. Hows about, publish your favourite hole from each course. Let’s get everyone involved in some positive banter...... I like this idea too. I don't think I am doing my rounds for the tour this week because the course doesn't agree with my Xbox and I'll get aggravated and take a DNF. So this would take it's place. I also agree with Oscar C on the requirements, but I also see where the other side is coming from. At any given time you could have 30 or you could have 5 designers who never published anything before wanting to enter a contest. So if you limit it too much who knows how many you get. I'm actually glad there were a little bit more experienced guys here, because we had people that had some experience very involved in the contest and their feedback and interactions were very positive and informative. From a contest point it kind of stinks lol but I personally just came into this contest for the learning experience (which I got a lot of so I couldn't be happier at this point). Just a thought for the future, but I wonder if you went back to previous years requirements, and had multiple "winners". A never published group, an "intermediate" group, and an overall winner?

How about a contestant ‘dream 18’ from the competition, polled by contestants only. Pick your favourite 3 holes, the ones with the most votes makes the 18... but you can’t pick a hole from your own course..??

Ok, I may not be able to remember one from each course, but I can probably do a top five. Here goes: - Tyro's 11th. Beautiful little par three with elevation change and a tier to make you think. - Condenados' 11th - Stout par five that sticks in my memory as I had to work really hard to make the green in two. Nicely designed hole. - Caldera's 9th. Bold AF. 800 yard par sixes just don't happen, nor do they actually play well. This one does both. - Bahiir's 6th. Another lovely par three that encapsulates the course for me and has a great vista over the plot. - Atchafalya's 18th. Really like a tee shot that makes me think and the hazard placement here is REALLY good. Great closing hole. There are certainly more that I enjoyed and this isn't representative of my own rankings of the courses, but those were some of the holes that really stood out for me, and why. There were some courses that I felt were really solid that haven't been mentioned as individual holes didn't quite stick in the memory as much of those, but please don't take that personally. Also, most of you already have PMs from me with what I enjoyed and would have tweaked anyway

Picking your favourite hole from each course is a good idea and then from that we could come up with a designer dream 18. We could also limit each course in the final 18 of only having 2 holes so that more courses have a chance of getting a hole in.
Restrictions for contests will always limit the number of entrants but not eliminate the 'gap'as someone who may not have published much may have been secretly trying new skills and techniques and refining things without anyone knowing especially if they don't stream, whereas someone else who may not have done much but does stream and getting 'live'feedback may not be as good and gap will still exist.
I think moat of us went into this contest not necessarily trying to win but to get feedback on how they are designing and what improvements can be made to create tour worthy courses or at least get them approved for the database.
I have only played 3 courses so far and have made some notes and will get around to sending pm's to the designers of what I liked and what I didn't like, but the quality of each course is up there and I don't envy the judges having to try and decide what courses make the cut in each round let alone awarding a winner
