I played R3 about as well as I played R2, which would have been really good if it wasn't for holes 8 and 10.
Misread a short par putt on 8 that turned into a long bogey putt that I missed.
Hole 10 was bad. Period. The pin placement and the wind made club decision off the tee really hard for me. I don't carry a 4I, so I had to take a chance that the 5I would get me over the water, or accept that I would be in no man's land by using the 3I. I chose the 5I. My tee shot did indeed clear the water hazard, but the slope on which it landed was too steep for the rough to hold the ball and it dribbled back into the pond. With no other choice, I re-hit the tee shot with the 3I and ended up in a horrible lie behind the far bunker. My chip shot landed just on the fringe of the green and ran on all the way across to the other side. I couldn't hole the chip shot coming back, or the subsequent downhill putt, so I took a 7 on 10.
Six shots gone in just two holes. Finished +2 for the round, -5 for the event so far. Most telling statistic of the round? 0% Medium range putts. Zero. As in none.

Well that was an adventurous and stressful round 4, knowing I needed to shoot -3 for the PS4 lead. Promptly came out and answered the bell with a par and 2 bogeys in the first 3 holes. Nice! Managed to erase those with 2 birdies in the next few holes, , then stepped up to 7 and got an ace! Sudden turn of events. Added a few birdies after that and no more bogeys to finish -5 and -21 total. Still managed to botch an easy birdie putt on 18, I hate that hole.I feel ya, bro. Par is a good score there, birdie a huge bonus. On this course, you have to figure that you're done scoring by 16.

Same mistake I did on my first round Jeff - on hole 10, cleared the water but not enough to not roll back down, third shot into the back bunker - tripple. I learned my lesson and played the hole more safe after that.

I think mine was a 95% 4 iron on 10 in round 4 to 4 feet, I knew 100% would go through the back of the green. Risk and reward shot as a 90% would probably be wet, 100% would be long. Best shot I played this week and felt good when it came off. 95% is just as the avatar reaches the top of the backswing. I pulled off quite a few this week for birdies, really worth practicing the shot.

I did the same thing as you and Jeffbdvs. The sad thing is, I had a 4I in my bag, but for some reason I thought I could get close with a 5 iron. Yep, it hit the bank and rolled back into the water. Double bogeyed the hole.

I need to hit the range and practice. That is a key element to shooting low scores when you are over or under clubbed.

It's such a scary approach, makes you concentrate, but is also kind of attackable. That's the definition of a great hole right there. Risk and reward. I might have got a birdie in round 2; it was either that or tap in pars every round, can't remember...

Final round was the only time I wasn’t feeling too nervous, as the hole position isn’t bad. But even then, having an angled lie on the fairway towards the direction of the water is always cause for a little concern lol. As for hole 10 I don’t recall going near the water, so I mustve just used the 3 iron and played it safe every time. I sometimes break out a slow backswing 1 iron for shots that call for a 4 iron (don’t carry it either), but no way in hell am I doing that with water in play lol.

The way I take distance off is to hold my swing just a fraction longer at the top, which gives me a slightly slow backswing and therefore less power/distance. I'm just not as consistent at it as I would like, and I sometimes lose 25 yards rather than the 5 or 10 I was trying for. It's all tempo and feel for me.

I will hit the purposeful 95 on full shots, purposeful 95 or 90 on pitches and LOVE my half flops (unless I hit the flop and a half!). I also like using the swing to hit roundhouse hooks and block fades, wind depending. Of course this is all with a mouse. This type of swing modifications makes mousing feel more like a real golf swing IMO.

The heavy rough around the green is so much more like real life when you can't loft your way out of it and get the ball to unrealistic spin and check up out of it.

One thing I realised from watching golf on tough US courses that heavy rough is so challenging around the green. Pro's want to be in the bunker than the heavy stuff. Just watch the roll out from the green side rough from pitches and chips from the deep stuff. Amateurs would struggle big time because you need club head acceleration even on the shortest chips out of heavy rough. I've played courses with brutal rough around the green irl, even with a 60 degree wedge that ball is gonna roll out especially on fast greens. Not a big fan of the flop(parachute shot) because isn't that a last ditch attempt with no green to work with. A pro would hit a pitch from 30 to 60 yards not cycle through flop shot distances by club. Why do we have flop shots for different clubs when the flop is like a bunker shot and achieved by an open club face and bounce of the club. My 55 degree SW would be more successful than my PW. I hate the flop shot in golf video games because those that don't play the real games think that it is an easy shot and everyone plays it from a certain distance.
