Round 1 in USE on the course that shall not be named and I had my best round here EVER going, even par thru 14 when a nasty German happened on 15 WITHOUT getting moist. Bounce back birdie on 16 (missed and ace by THAT much) then parred in for a +3. If I can match that 3 more times I will be thrilled!
Onward!!

Is there a way to change your clubset once you’ve been a dumbass and pressed start on a round with the wrong ones? Haven’t hit a shot yet so if not I’ll crank up the PC later in the week and play this weeks event there.

I HATE Mag***gusta!!
I had forgotten how much I hate this course so much. LOL
For the record I'm only playing this to get the 10 points for being last in a major, and because LKeet6 said he'd give me a cookie if I played.
But I reserve the right to complain and vent about it all week!
One high point, I eagled 8. have no idea how that happened, I thought I hit a bad second shot and it somehow ended up a gimme putt for eagle. Being uphill, I have no idea where the ball landed and how it got there. Even from my vantage point, I thought I hit it way left.
But then, I think it was even the very next hole, I was right beside the green, 9 yds from hole. soft chip, ball rolls around the hole, maybe a yd or two off, goes around the hole then starts rolling back down the hill, and proceeds to roll THIRTY SOME FREEKIN YARDS ALL THE WAY DOWN THE FAIRWAY. And I was nine yds away and originally hitting slightly uphill.
ridiculous.
Another hole, was one of them that only seems to happen on this course and the other one this dude designed, where you are just off the green, 13 yds away, too close for a flop, and you chip it, and the stupid green is so high that it hits and just rolls all the way back to you. Tried this one THREE TIMES before I was so frustrated I just smacked it way past the hole.
ridiculous.
and why didn't I flop it? Because already before that, I had two flops that were in the rough, going UPHILL, and I use my 24 yd club and one carried about 40 yards, and the other somewhere in the 30s. How the crap does a shot that says it will carry 24 yds, and your lie is uphill, which is as I understand it supposed to make it not go as far, AND its in heavy rough, which is supposed to be 70% or something of the carry distance, actually then carry MORE than the club's rated distance? Thats not the courses fault though, I think that one is on HB. but still. ridiculous.
Don't worry I'll be back after R2 to complain more!!

I think the flop shot can be penal and rightly so with off tempo shots out of the heavy rough. It needs to be a high risk shot to be realistic. They certainly have improved it from before with all that ridiculous arcade like backspin out of heavy rough.

No worries, I suspect I’m still a member of the PC society, if not I’ll post in here when I’ve sent a request. Probably be Wednesday my time but will see how I go 👍 Didn’t hit any shots so assuming I’m still ok to play.

Ahhhhh, so even though all the factors say it should not go as far, if you hit your tempo wrong, (which I do often), then who knows what the ball may do. Sort of like in real golf if you make a mistake. That actually makes a lot of sense and I didn't think about it that way!
Its like on those chip shots where I try to hit it not 100%, thinking it will go just a few yards, and it somehow goes 15 yds and keeps rolling. That didn't make sense to me until I remembered that even if you hit a chip shot softer, (in real life) if you don't hit it smooth or follow through, it will just smack the ball low like a punch shot instead of going up and soft.

Tempo in real life is the rhythm of your swing. In the game it relates to your club face being open or closed on impact. This will effect the quality of your strike and distance. In TGC2 you could actually thin the ball with off tempo flops resulting in shots flying through the green.

Loved my 4 rounds around the course that shall not be named. Overall I played well. Tried to catch Rob on pc, had many chances but squandered most of them. Finished -12 which is respectable for me :-)

Where to begin. I have been really looking forward to this week as the "Course with no name" and the "Event with no name" have always treated me with an incredible roller coaster of on course emotions. The course is setup well, and round 1 is out there for the taking; however, take too much and you will be praying you can get out with less than a snowman. I played okay tee to green, and I made some putts but I missed enough to miss out on a special round. I missed an eagle from about 5 feet on #13, but made from about 6 feet on #15, so I will take that. Overall, good to have a round under my belt, and at -4 I shouldn't find myself too far back after the first round.

-8 first round, one eagle...couple bogies, no double bogies at least which has been my nemesis lately.

Round 1 at Magnolia complete. Heading to the clubhouse for a drink, in fact several drinks! I love this course but it sure stresses me out lol. Downhill sliders on this course are super fast. If you don't hit the greens you can pay the price! I had a goal of Even par for R1 but ended up +5. I'll join you, Wade. But the drinks are on me since I finished R1 at -1. Not great but not too bad because anything under par at ****gusta ****tional is good! I was in rarefied air at -2 (3 birds one bogey) as I stood on the tee at 15. Hit my second shot long on purpose because you cannot land on the green short of that pin and hold the green, the fairway or the rough. You'll be wet after the ball rolls back down the front of the green into the creek. But I hit it too long, and too late I realized the proper play is to the left or right of pin. I had a flop from the pine straw behind the green and I clubbed down so as not to go past the hole (and thus into the creek). But I left my flop way too short and 3-putted for bogey. A couple of 7-inch par putts later and I finished at -1. Leaders on PS4 at -4.

Any Yanks (like me) out there not understand the bit about adding sandpaper to the bag or what urn returns where? I'll let the Aussies or Brits explain because I'd just make a mess of it. If not for my long-time friend in London, I wouldn't understand, either. But he was kind enough to explain it all, and we commiserated over a couple of long-distance pints when the outcome was inevitable. Love the comment about it having been too kumbaya around here lately!
