First I want to welcome all the new people that are joining the web after the promotion event. Congratulations on joining what is the cool kids tour. When there is a promotion event, I carefully plan what course to be used on your first week, I search through the list of fantastic courses by amazing designers to bring you something that is both challenging and fun to play. Unfortunately none of the amazing designers were available this week so instead we are using a course by B.Smooth13 . Some of you might know Justin from What’s Going On where as a good player he gives game play tips. What Justin does not do is give design tips. Someone else gives the design tips, why does Justin not give design tips I hear you ask? I don’t know why he does not do the design tips section just that he does not do the design tips.
Anyway, what has Justin given us this week. This week we have a course which is a tribute to the greatest movie ever made, The Patriot. The 100 percent accurate true story of a member of the Gibson family and how they defeated the tyrannical British army and gave America their biggest party day, the Fourth of July. The Gibson family have been part of many true and 100 percent accurate parts of history throughout the ages. They helped solve one of the worlds greatest murder mysteries when they figured out who was responsible for the death of Jesus Christ, spoiler alert here but it was the Jews. They defeated the English at the Battle of Sterling bridge( with out the bridge) to free the underwear from beneath their kilts that they had been forced to wear by English law as well as freeing Scotland from the yoke of English oppression, well at least until they were betrayed by underwear loving Scots and had their head chopped off. It was at this moment, the family decided they wanted to move to another country, one where they could drive on the right hand side of the road, where they could shout from the rooftops “ screw you metric system” and so The Patriot was born.
Benjamin Martin( we have changed his name from Mel Gibson to protect the innocent)is a humble single father whose hobbies include freeing slaves, being lovely to his seven angelic children and whittling rocking chairs and this course lovingly recreates his home and areas of historic value in the American past. Stare in wonder at the clubhouse, an accurate recreation of the luxurious slave accommodation where happy smiling slaves pass away the time waiting to be given their freedom. Gasp is horror on hole seven when you learn it’s the spot where times traveling Nazis from Oradour-sur-Glane in 1944 herd non combatants into a church and set it alight. Cheer with joy on the 18th as Martin grabs the Stars and Stripes and leads the charge and takes General Cornwallis's troops by surprise, General Cornwallis's was so surprised he was not even there. Admire the long fairways that represent the runways of the airports that were taken back from the British during the war, sadly because of budget limitations, these scenes had to be cut from the movie but I was great to see Donald Trump highlight this long forgotten part of history in his recent Independence Day speech. And finally, open your ears to the joyful chants of USA USA as you make your way across the course, the traditional cheer of the Gibson family when playing golf as they were the ones to introduce golf to America after they left Scotland.
People often ask me where my knowledge of history comes from as they never learned it from their history books in school, well movies of course and from people like Justin who create such fantastic tributes with courses like The Patriot, he may not be allowed give design tips but he sure knows how to honor history, so enjoy yourself out there, knowing you to, are now a part of history.
