I thought I'd jump in on the course design side of things and have a go myself. Last time I designed a course was for Jack Nicklaus 6 and TGC is a very different beast. My first course, Tangle Foot GC, is kinda inspired by US courses such as Merion, Oakmont and Winged Foot. I've laid out the full 18 but only really done the first 4 holes properly... and I've not really done any planting yet. What is there is just auto-gen grass for the most part. I like to design with the trees off, then I'll ramp those up later. I kind of have an idea to do a course for each of TGC's themes, so I went with Rural first and I'll just go through them in a kinda chronological order. I'll post some early WIP shots below, just to see what the general consensus is and how you think I'm doing so far. Any constructive criticism is welcomed. I may or may not post these to TGC Tours... I dunno if they will be good enough for tournament play but I thought I'd give course design a shot and see how I fare. Anyway, early WIP screens below. Hole 1 - Par 4 - 425y Hole 2 - Par 4 - 385y Hole 3 - Par 3 - 184y Hole 4 - Par 5 - 542y

Nice work dude! I like the sight lines and how everything is visible. The pews are nicely done. I'd like to give it shot when your done. Good luck

Looks like a championship course, but how about Countryside theme? Or wait until March and get it on the Autumn theme? New themse are far superior in terms of look.

Looks like a championship course, but how about Countryside theme? Or wait until March and get it on the Autumn theme? New themse are far superior in terms of look. Thanks for the feedback. You are right that the newer themes (Boreal & Countryside) are a lot better in terms of texture colours and texture blending but I didn't think they would suit a course such as this. They have a much more rugged look and the countryside theme especially, I feel, lends itself more to a kind of British inland links or heathland course in style than American "Target Golf". I know there is a new theme coming but I haven't seen any pictures of it yet. I do really like the idea of creating one course per theme though initially. I've got a notepad here with names of courses I've taken inspiration from for each theme... and I plan to eventually if I get good at this try recreating my local course.

I like how you have used the rural theme. Countryside is done to death and it performs pretty bad on console, just a heads up. Good start so far mate, keep creating and you will soon learn the tricks of the trade.

I am betting on the next theme being the tropical theme.

I am betting on the next theme being the tropical theme. I don't know where I heard this but I had heard someone mention it being named "Harvest"... I'm guessing that might be an update for the Autumn theme?... not sure.

Oh right, could be hayfield's type theme or something. Could be, not sure. Anyway though, I agree, countryside and boreal are used a lot. I like rural for this design. Started and potentially finished hole 5 today coming back down the other side of the pews. Looking forward to getting all 18 plotted out and then I can start ramping up the trees and other planting.

Got some more screens of the course. Again mostly preliminary auto gen planting apart from a few areas where I've been messing about or trying out a look. Hole 5 - Par 4 Trying out a planting style for the grass bunker islands... idea was to give it a "this is overgrown cos we can't mow this, just prune it with a weed-whacker" look. I think it looks good on the pews but I genuinely have no idea if the GNCD will allow me to plant enough to do all the pews and still have anything left for other features, or even run smoothly once finished. I do think it's a good look though. Hole 6 - Par 4 Not finished planting the ditch on 6, but you can see the look i'm going for left of the wooden bridge. Hole 7 - Par 4 Hole 8 - Par 3 None of the planting in front of the green will likely be staying as it's mostly auto-gen. Not quite sure what to have there yet. Possibly planning on running the ditch from 7 through there but not decided yet. Really having fun with this. Almost got 9 holes done. Again, let me know what you think, especially the planting in the bunkers. Hoping it'll let me do all the pews like that but it takes a heck of a lot of time to do planting each bush by hand.

Your bunkers look very nice. They have just the amount of space between them and also have have unique shaping to them. I do like the planting in the bunkers as well. Not a big fan of this theme but it makes the grass look green. I am also dabbling into the creator for the first time. I am on PS4 so if I can get some snapshots I will add them to the site.

Just to let you know, I'm still chugging away at this course.
I've now gotten 12 holes of 18 completed including a total redesign of the green-site on 2 as I wasn't totally happy with the way the green sat into the landscape.
The course has also grown in length to just under 7,000 yards with a total of 6,923 for the Par 71 round. This has happened fairly organically, it wasn't a conscious effort to add length, I know I'd asked in the shout-box if the course was too short but I didn't go out of my way to lengthen it, just messing around with the way-points.
Still sticking with the Rural theme. If Harvest comes out before I'm ready to publish the course I might, depending on how it looks in it, publish it on Harvest... but I'm still really liking the Rural look and I've been thinking about how I want trees and planting to be done so it's not massive swathes of luminous green bushes lining each hole.
More pictures soon.
