So this is the start of me blogging my pretty average attempts at making cuts and squeaking the odd top 40 on PGA. For the most part I play the PGA tour as well as the TST tour, for which to be fair I get far more enjoyment. So over the course of the coming months I'll update the world on what its like to be a "not good enough for top 10 but not bad enough to get demoted" player on the PGA.
PGA Week 25 - Zurich Classic - The Buck Club
Missed Cut (67, 64) - so the inconsistent play is back and the main issue this time (apart from some idiotic decisions as to where I was laying up to) was the putting particularly in Round 1. 29 putts isn't going to get it done. The green reading was OK but just hit the putts too hard and missed three or four simple birdie. The course was great. I love the way in which @b.Smooth13 combines the template holes that he is so good at designing with the elevation changes on the course. This was something different which you don't always get on the PGA through no fault of the schedulers because of the need to follow similar courses/RCRs. Hopefully this will be a blip with Quail Hollow next which I have played well at before.
TST Week 25 - Zurich Classic and Pairs Competition - Purgatory (LIDAR)
32nd place (-24) - so the first experience of LIDAR with True Sim and it was fun. The course presented really well with good sight lines and the conditions made it a good test. It's interesting though how many of the putts I had ended up being straight or nearly straight which I'm sure is not down to good golf but more with the way the LIDAR maps the course. It ends up being a double bluff in terms of "it looks straight but can't be" and then playing for break and it is straight. TST is now a lot harder as better PS4 players enter the competition who play on a whole new level in terms of being able to land it far closer to the pin than my wonky lines can manage. -24 would likely be consistently top 20 last year but doesn't even get top 30 this year. I suppose its just one of those things in terms of getting better or falling away. Coupled with this was a pairs competition where myself and greyosprey managed to finish 10th. Great additional extra to the tour and maybe should be something that could be incorporated into future events.
