Just been doing some practice and for the longest time I've used the same clubs in my bag, usually go with just a 3 wood and a 2-9 Iron with the wedges. Was just wondering what the optimal club choice most people are using?

Well after much testing I found hybrids and woods to be much less effective then Irons out of the rough. In fact as backwards as this sounds, the 1 Iron is the best rescue club in the game. Here is my setup and it serves me well. The only club I ever miss is not having a 4 Iron but otherwise all my gaps are perfectly spaced.
Driver,2 wood 1,3,5-9 Iron, PW,GW,SW,LW

Lots of people carry a 2w, but you can hit driver off the deck if you loft it - goes a similar distance 👍
I carry D, 3w, 3h, 4i-LW

I'm almost the exact same. I usually have a 4 iron but no 5 iron because I think de-lofting the 6 iron is more effective in adding yards to fill the distance gap caused by the missing club.
Even with the driver off the deck going a similar distance, it is not nearly as accurate. I think I get a lot more eagles chances out of the 2 wood that I would hitting driver. 2 wood is also valuable off the tee where I need to lay back a little from the driver landing area.
Agree on 1 iron being better than hybrids for rescue. the real life height advantage hitting hybrids out of the rough over long irons doesn't translate to this game.

I ditched the LW to add a longer hybrid in the bag in an effort to reduce being in between clubs on those 200+ yd Par 3's and longer par 4's we see.
Taught myself how to make the LW shots (chips and flops) around the green with the SW instead.

Sooner or later HB will take my recommendation of allowing us to save different golf bag setups instead of having to manually swap out clubs every time we want to change. Give us 3 to 5 bags to save.

Driver, 3 wood, 2 iron, 5 hybrid, 5 thru 9 iron, PW, GW, SW, LW, putter.... I had the 2 wood but ditched it for the 3 wood. I feel like driver off the deck is uber accurate in this game. Which kinda stinks. But i'll certainly take advantage of it.

I'm gonna try this. I've been using Driver, 2W, 2, 4-9, Wedges, but like your thinking on dropping the 5I and trading the 2 for the 1 & 3. Regarding the driver off the deck, the 2W is superior unless the lie is above 91%.

I'm gonna have to test out this 1 iron and maybe rethink my current set up. I switched to a 2W very early after release of this game and i would never go without...i've tried hitting a driver off the deck but i can never seem to hit it well even with perfect tempo

What are your guys thoughts on replacing a wedge w/hybrid or 4i? I am using the OPs suggested setup.

I use the same as above: Driver,2 wood 1,3,5-9 Iron, PW,GW,SW,LW
Found it covers me and if I'm short, wind/loft usually helps.

I strongly recommend keeping as many wedges in your bag as possible regardless of other decisions, for the chipping and pitching game mostly.
So many shots are around the green and the difference between chipping to 2-3 feet vs 5-7 feet adds up to a lot of strokes over time.

Just switched to your setup for a trial a couple weeks ago for these Open qualifiers since they are long and windy...gotta say after some time getting used to it I think this is the way to go from me. Still learning how to work the rollouts and the less wind effect on them but I'm starting to navigate the longer windier courses better now than i was. Still got a ways to go though

Taught myself how to make the LW shots (chips and flops) around the green with the SW instead. I took the LW out of my bag a while back for the same reason. The only time I miss it is when I have 15-25 yd shot where chipping isn't an option and I wish I could have the 24 yd flop.
