Going to focus on this for the rest of this week before I head down to Augusta. Initially I wasn't sure about the course, as it appeared to me that the greens were just too sloped to be set at high speeds with TGC's physics. Doyley was kind enough to take a look, though, and assured me that if I play tested the course more, it is definitely doable on 187 speeds. I fully intend on planting the course manually, so this is not going to be a short project. My goal this Friday, however, will be to publish a super beta edition as a companion to the rl tournament. I will use the lidar-based tree additions so that no one has to play a treeless course, but it is in no way intended to represent a final published course. It's just a way to get a feel for what the greens and elevations are like, and a preview of what the final lidar release will ultimately look like. Here's a spoiler alert: If you play the lidar version, and then want to circle back and play Magnolia, I think you will find that you aren't missing out on much when playing Magnolia.

Finally got the OSM import to a point that I liked to begin working on the course. Decided to start at Amen Corner again, and put a few hours in to fill in Raes Creek, add the dam and bridges, and fix the bunkers behind the 12th green. Very slow progress so far, but I should pick up steam once I get past Amen Corner.

This great news! I can't wait to see the final result. BTW, you did a fantastic job with the non-lidar version. I really enjoy playing it. This is by far my favorite golf course and you really captured it well.

Water hazards are in place on 11,12, 13, 15 and 16. I adjusted each of the tee boxes and put in Sunday pins on each hole, and put rough in everywhere that isn't fairway or pine straw.
I'm just about ready to release the beta to play along with during the tournament, just to see the greens. Just waiting at the moment to see if I can import the lidar trees without disrupting my work. I turned on autogen trees and it's a little bit of an improvement on just playing the unplanted plot, but wouldn't be as good as the lidar trees. If I don't have a resolution by tonight, though, I will just stick with the autogen trees for the beta and release it.

Saw you playtesting this earlier, was hoping you'd hit publish. Eager to see how the LiDAR data looks around here, for obvious reasons.

theclv24 if it's for you and this course, I'll manually insert the lidar trees for you. If you can't get it working, send me the course and lidar files?

Would you consider making this course in the Rustic theme? Sorry, just sad with what they did to the bunkers on the boreal theme...

It's just for a very early beta, though, so I don't think it's worth the effort. My only idea was to allow some people to follow along with the Masters and look at the greens. I'll eventually be planting the course by hand, but if anyone wants the full Augusta experience they can simply play Magnolia, which has all of the planting detail and is quite close to matching the lidar greens on most holes.

Would you consider making this course in the Rustic theme? Sorry, just sad with what they did to the bunkers on the boreal theme... I hate the bunkers with a passion, but I just can't deal with the lack of pine trees to use in Rustic. Seeing one tree over and over really kills the experience for me, even more than the bunkers. I'll take another look before I plant and see if there are any other possibilities, but the tree selection will probably be my top priority.

Published "ANGC LiDAR Super Beta"
Again, it's just really a chance to fly around the plot and look at it. I put in one pin on each green in the 2018 Sunday positions.
I'd say this is at about 10% done. Most of the splines need to be redone, the plot edges need to be normalized in elevation, and planting needs to be done, of course.
Have fun out there, and pretend the trees are there... no cutting corners!

Hey man! Thanks for switching it to the rustic theme! Those bunkers look beautiful! I also love the replica of the old tree on 18. Looks great!
Isn't it awesome being able to see the actual sculpting of a course you have spent hours and hours studying? I have Pebble imported in and spend time just flying over the plot picking apart what I did well and what I need to fix!

theclv24 - would you mind sharing the EPSG code for the lidar you are using? I'm trying to mess around ( I am not working on publishing anything at all FYI - this is just for personal fun) and I cannot seem to get the lidar import to work by forcing the EPSG. Lidar I'm using is this (one fiilename example - happy to provide them all) 20110913_GAE69501285
