Hi all! Got stuck UNDER a rake, took 2 to get out and ended up with double bogey. This is completely unrealistic as obviously in real life you would move them. I suggest any new courses are banned from adding rakes! I would not have won the tourney without the double bogey but one day it could cost someone a title. What do you all think? I added a poll for the laugh.

I got stuck behind the 100 yard marker this week in one round...cost me a stroke. I shouldn't have been in the rough, though, is the way I look at it.

On Shivering Pines, the 150 yard markers are in the fairway. My drive came to rest against one. My second shot hit it and went so far right a search and rescue plane couldn't find it. Up until that point, I did not know that you could actually collide with those things.

Yeah they obviously shouldn't be on courses we use. I can understand putting them on for realism but as we can't move them they should not be there. Same with yardage markers.

I protest the petition. Rakes and yardage markers exist on real courses. .. play it as it lies. .. or move it and take the stroke. .. or two. ..

If your ball is against a rake ... "and it moves" (which usually happens) ... it's a penalty. If your ball is against a staked yardage marker, that is not removable (which most are non removable on the courses I played on ... (they're chained or cemented in-place) ... it's played from where it lies, or you move it at the cost of a stroke (un-playable lie).
If you're going to cry about rakes and markers, why stop there? why not remove all bushes? why not remove all bunkers? why not remove all rocks? Let's not forget trees? water? Buildings? Signs?
Why not just play a flat course made of nothing more than a fairway and a giant flat green?

You don't need rakes in this game because you dont leave footprints in the sand for the next player.
You don't need yardage markers because the game provides the exact yardage.
Asthetics-wise, courses would not really lose any flavor with their omission.
Going with the overwhelming majority opinion, I agree, let's ban them.

I got stuck in a ravine and could get out, Cost me max strokes .... I want a petition to ban all courses that have a ravine on them to be BANNED! I got my ball stuck on the side of a steep Cliff .... I want all courses with any steep cliffs to be BANNED ... Where will it stop .... this petition should be banned!!!

First: I agree with you that rakes and markers are part of the course and shouldn't be banned. Since they never affect the stance or swing in this game, but only line of play, they are not covered by the rules of golf. I think they are a nice piece of "rub of the green", as there should be in golf. However, please don't comment on the rules of golf if you don't know them. If your ball is against a rake ... "and it moves" (which usually happens) ... it's a penalty. Wrong. Rule 24-1. The ball can move without penalty when you remove a removable obstruction. Just remember to put the ball back where it was (or as close as possible). If your ball is against a staked yardage marker, that is not removable (which most are non removable on the courses I played on ... (they're chained or cemented in-place) ... it's played from where it lies, or you move it at the cost of a stroke (un-playable lie). Wrong. Rule 24-2. You can take relief without penalty if the balls lie against one or if the stake affects your swing or stance for both yardage markers, GUR markers, water markers even if they are movable or removable. Please remember that OOB-markers are part of the OOB, so you don't get relief without penalty for them. If you're going to cry about rakes and markers, why stop there? why not remove all bushes? why not remove all bunkers? why not remove all rocks? Let's not forget trees? water? Buildings? Signs? Why not just play a flat course made of nothing more than a fairway and a giant flat green? Fully agreed.

He is going to get an ear full ... (I knew I should have looked it up) As he pulled that crap on me the other day, made me take a stroke ... LOL .... took the skin for that hole!!!

That's the good thing about the rules of golf, and why I find them fascinating They can just as often be used to your advantage instead of them working against you.

Nobody loses a stroke over a moveable object in real life so it shouldnt be happening in the game. And free releif is given for non-moveable manmade objects. This is not whining, eveyone who wants this ban is 100% in favor of other hazards which could have you lose a stroke.

Most of them are to your advantage... How about playing it as it lies out of eight feet of water otherwise. No teeing up the ball. No marking on the greens. No removing leaves etc in your putting line. Etc. etc.

Was the rake in the middle of the Fairway? if yes, then you got a point and the rake was misplaced.
If it was near a bunker, in a bunker, or in the rough near a bunker, too bad. You hit a bad shot. And you are crying because you hit a bad shot, and the rake just happened to compound your bad luck.
