I've been playing around with twitch a little bit, and I'm thinking it's likely that I'll be starting up a semi-regular show of sorts for TGC course design. I originally was going to do a series of tutorials for beginners, but having looked at Andre's tutorial series again, he covers a lot of what I would be covering and I'm not sure if I'd have a ton of new material to add to that. I considered doing something like what Brian/Eric had done in the past and take a beginner's course file and show how to fix a lot of common mistakes, or just trying to feature new designers every week to highlight their courses and design philosophies. However, since I've got no idea what I'm doing, I figured I ask if there was any topics folks wanted me to cover, or if there was a format that particularly sparked some interest. Just let me know, thanks!

Hi Matt,
given your experience rather than a tutorial that covers specific designer features like brushes and splines id prefer to see theory based topics such as:
- plot routing and planning (this is a crictical staring point for a newbie anyway) - effective use of light while still keeping greens visible - how to be tactical but fair to create a fun challenging course
This can then evolve into other interesting topics such as:
- how to best playtest your course and what to look for - how to do multiple tee sets and make them worth the effort (i often wonder do we need more than 2?) - Planting - this is an art - lets talk about it more.
Anyway just throwing it out there... thanks for asking

I would love a show for designers that's geared more toward intermediate to advanced level. In fact I'd like to co-host it lol. But I think something where an experienced designer sends you the file and comes on and you look at something they're currently working on and a specific aspect they want help or feedback or critique on, whether it's a hole or a green complex or sightlines, etc. That way each show is a little different and it's not a tutorial but it's multiple designers talking through philosophy or techniques or strategy. I think that would be much more beneficial for new designers, but also interesting and helpful for advanced designers.
It would also build some hype for new courses in the pipeline and get people looking forward to them.

Not sure there'd be enough material to do a show like that every week, but I suppose there's also not any real reason I'd need to lock into anything specific, and I can probably just do semi-regular segments of most of these ideas to keep it fresh. And I can always use a co-host!

I think Eric and Kent’s recent format of taking what someone had started and refining / giving ideas would be welcome. Using this format would allow you to tailor the level of feedback to your assessment of the designers proficiency. Could also allow for some interaction / dialogue, which always makes streams more engaging. Encouraging requestors to submit questions in advance could allow you some time to prep and give some really solid advice. Edit: realised I’ve pretty much just repeated what’s. Even said above but hey - i agree: WIP guidance

Matt, I think that's a fantastic idea. I have always thought instead of just looking at YouTube videos, there are so many new/up-and-coming designers who could really use a live, Twitch show of one (or more) expert, well-known designers in the Community playing through courses and giving real live tips and critiques and How-To's on how to do things, answering question in real time, etc. This would be such a valuable resource for designers! Great idea!

Great idea! Completely agree. As someone who's only published 5 courses so far. It would be great to hear thoughts from the top designers. Strategy would be something I'd like to know more about. Creating different options off the tee.

Right now the plan is to have the first show on starting/routing a new plot. I figure we'll have regular shows on individual concepts and techniques, but it'd also be cool to do a couple shows on dissecting/renovating some courses by other designers. If that's something you'd be interested in, let me know! It'd have to be on PC though, as you can't share course files on PS4 or Xbox.

Well, I was hoping to do my first show tomorrow, but I've got last-minute plans, so perhaps later in the week or next week. I'll let folks know once I figure out a date.

I've decided I want to split out the getting started segment into it's own show, which I'll do tonight at 8pm EST before WGO so that the routing show with Matt mrvinegar206 can continue as scheduled next Monday.
