Valle Crucis
(The Vale of the Cross)
Designed by: Terry Grayson and Eric Nesbit (VctryLnSprts)
Course Particulars: Countryside theme
Four Pins: 173 greens on default with plenty of movement. Pin set 2 probably the most difficult
Tees: 3
White: 6710 yards
Gold: 6873 yards
Blue: 7208 yards
The course can be played default for views such as the pics below... I also think it looks good at partly cloudy settings on morning and also afternoon times...
This is my latest design for TGC… Valle Crucis is a real town in the mountains of NC just southwest of Boone, where the original Mast general Store still stands. The town sits in a valley between mountains and is a beautiful location. This fictional course is situated near that area, but I wanted to build a course that could be real.
I hope this course feels realistic as opposed to most of my work, which leans toward the fantasy style. . With help and thoughts and looking at my fellow Mafia member courses I tried to take a little bit of what I have learned from each of these guys and incorporate it into this course. I commissioned VctryLnSprts to sculpt the greens on this course as I believe he builds some of the best sculpted greens out there . A special thank you to Eric for his course work on the greens, and the clubhouse area. This is the second collaboration course from Eric and I of many more to come from the entire group. A lot of exciting projects underway amongst us all . Our fellow team members play tested it over and over to make sure it was ready for public play. Many thanks tothe following for the playtesting and such

The group above is a group I really enjoy hanging out with playing this game, between the trash talking and half the dang night texting they do, Ive picked up some thoughts and tricks along the way maybe I haven’t even told them about. So thanks fellas this course is a tribute to all you fellas, unless it sucks, if it does Ill blame Eric Nesbit ha ha Enjoy everyone, and always ready for feedback good or bad

just started but wanted to pause and say hole 2 is really quite nice. Lovely look, great job forcing the players' eyes away from the pin, good strategy...very very nice. Now to try the rest.

still finding a few areas where you guys could push it more. I'm on hole 8 and it's a lovely tee shot and a good hole but if you were to make the rough area short of the bunkers fairway instead and even extend that fairway further out on the right too...just could make a difference between a lovely tee shot and a shot you take with you when the round is done. That's what I meant about the first track you guys did. It's totally great as is...just trying to find that little bit of something that's keeping me from taking those shots with me when I leave if that makes sense. Hole 2? Hole 2 will come with me... nice job.

just posting stuff as I see it. The rock work around the water is really top notch so far. very natural and not a forced naturalness but a NATURAL naturalness. Very cool.

overall I liked this one more than the farms for sure. Both are great but this one added some extra variety and the first and third par 3's were excellent in particular. Thanks guys

I've played through some of the course and one thing that stuck out for me was the view off the tee on the 5th, such a great view. Bunkers look great, greens are well done, good use of retaining walls and rocks. I'm not sure if I'm right but it seemed that you used less planting on the holes that played into the sun, which I think is a good idea as the sun and sculpting will suffice. I'll pop back in and play it when I get a chance.

Very well put together course, Terry Grayson, VctryLnSprts & crew! Enjoyed my round here this morning. Expanding on what Reeb did, here's what I noted while tooling around: As far as visuals, the tee shots that called to me most were 5 & 13, the default lighting and haze really made these holes pop. Particularly enjoyed the options off the 13th tee, and the combination of the lighting and sculpting really made the centerline fairway bunkers the star of the hole, as they should be given their role in determining the strategy of how to play the hole. I agree with Reeb's point about extending the fairway on the 8th hole, and would make the same point about 12. Actually think it would add to the strategy if you brought the fairway up close to the edge of the right fairway bunker. Creates a "safe aggressive" play with 2 wood or 3 wood to try to layup there. You bring the bunkers and that tree on the right into play, but you also get a better look at the green from there, whereas an ultra conservative play to the left side and short of the bunkers would obstruct your view of the second shot. Only hole I really thought missed the mark was 7. Nothing really wrong with it as is, but that Devil's A-hole bunker on the right is just kind of there and really has no effect on how the hole is played. I would have probably extended the pond where the current green is and wrapped the green around that little pot bunker, kind of how you have the fairway wrapping around it presently. Then you'd have to contend with both the water and that bunker, especially on a back left pin. The greens were very well done. Actually was a little bummed that the pinset I played (2) had the pin on 11 in the front as that green looks like an absolute blast to play the way it undulates in the back three sectors. BTW, Eric, as someone who's tinkering with Chadputting myself, I found the greens on this course very conducive to that technique. I had several downhillers in the 5-15 foot range that I was able to attack with some confidence and made more than my fair share, which helped me shoot 59 my first time through. Again, overall, a very, very solid effort guys

So I went round the course again and tried a short cut on the 3rd by playing to the next fairway, didn't really help much. I did get nervous with some of the trees around the tee boxes as I wasn't sure if I'd hit them but they seemed to be fine. Great course well done guys.

Enjoyed the track last night. These courses are so much more challenging now that the patch broke my gameplay. Shooting a few under par is now an accomplishment instead of a horrible round.

Managed to get three holes in before the significant other shut me down. I'll have to sneak on after she's gone to bed tonight.
