Greetings Design Community,
If you're anything like me, one of your favorite parts of The Golf Club (either version) is the ability to put your imagination to the test with the course designer feature, that opportunity for you to design and play a golf course that you always thought would be fun to try! Likewise, if you're anything like me, you get trapped designing in the 4 or 5 themes that you feel most "comfortable" in, and you never really stretch your imagination into a whole different set of terrain challenges.
One of the most fun things to follow in this TGC2 community is the course creations that come out from you guys, and certainly we need to give credit to people like @griff and others who put a lot of work into encouraging people to create more and more amazing courses for us to use in the game, and on the TGC Tours. People who have put the time into running and judging other design contests are my inspiration for creating my own contest... I am not trying to BE those guys, but I do want to give credit where it is due and try to emulate their success by being part of the team. The saying in the design community goes, "the more people creating great golf courses, the more we ALL win."
And that's the genesis of my own design contest idea, which hopefully is different enough from others I've seen on the threads not to be a copy-cat, but instead to inspire more designs from our fantastic pool of designers, and even better, hopefully to encourage more and more people to try out the designer and learn it really well so that we continue to be offered a full lineup of choices for future TGCT events. So with that said...
Welcome to the Fantasy Tour Theme Challenge!
Summary: Your task will be to design a golf course in a theme that is new to you (if possible) and combine exciting fantasy elements into a course that's goal is to maintain 'tour worthy' status (able to be played on TGCT).
Timeframe: The contest will run from November 10th, 2017 through January 31st, 2018.
Grand Prize: A $100 cash prize to the winner, $50 to second, and $25 to third (PayPal gift exchange)
Scoring Rubric - Why is it called Fantasy Tour Theme?
Fantasy: I love some of the crazy fantasy courses that are out there, but there are two problems: 1) they often aren't very polished and wouldn't ever make it on TGCT, and 2) people play them once for novelty and that's it. The "fantasy" portion of this contest is to include elements such as gorgeous elevation changes, extravagant water features and bunker complexes, islands or peninsulas, sloped greens, beautiful clubhouses, and creative design elements in a high quality, completed project. If you create something that is just crazy and silly you won't win, because...
Tour: your course needs to be able to get approved by TGCT for it's quality design, and no matter what fantasy elements you decide to use, your challenge is still to make a course that is capable of being played at some level of TGCT. The difficulty is up to you (CC, Web, Euro, PGA, or World), and you will not be judged better or worse depending on which Tour you intend the course to be used on, but whichever way you go, you will lose points in the judging if the course can't be used. My intention for the winner of this contest is to have some unbelievable fantasy courses created that are perfectly reasonable for the Tours (example, your pin positions MUST be legal).
Theme: the final challenge in the scoring rubric is to design in a theme that's outside of your comfort zone (I will check your designer profile to see how many times you've already designed in the theme you sign up for). I recognize that it will be quite difficult to take a theme you're not familiar with and then implement crazy fantasy elements in a tour quality course, but that's what makes this a contest! I can't give financial rewards to the winners if it's too easy!
Entry: the contest will be open to the first 12 people that respond with a selected theme, but the themes are first come, first served. Please respond to this post with your sign-up selection and I will update the OP with the designer first to select each theme (if we happen to get a bunch of interest, I'm willing to open it to a second entry in each theme, so we shall see).

Encouragement: If you aren't a "known" name in the design community, please don't let that stop you from signing up. I follow the Under Construction and Completed Designs section pretty faithfully, and I know for a fact that there are a lot of very, very good designers in our midst, and maybe a design contest is a way to get noticed. I'll do my best to support your work along the way!
Final Thoughts: This is meant to be FUN, so if this contest would interfere with your schedule or your life in any way, please don't sign up and stress yourself out. I know life happens for all of us and this is just a video game, but my hope is to have a full contest with at least 12 (possibly 24) completed course designs. If you feel that you may not be able to finish this project, please hold off and allow the entries to go to folks who can give this a full go. Thank you!
Results: Final standings based on the judging panel review and scoring
