Now open - Durnwick Golf Club, 6551 yrd Par 71 - Firm / Med. fast greens Really would like feedback/comments all! As much as one can in TGC, worked to make the ground game important here, and the greens challenging but fair. Appreciate the plays and feedback in advance!

This one deserves some more attention than it's getting. Lots of great visual work done on this one. I like the kind of rugged hills that you can see from parts of this, a nice touch.
As for playability, it's great from that aspect as well. I do think that two Par fives that are less than 500 yards might be a little too easy, but other than that I really enjoyed the flow of the course, and can see it coming to a tour soon.
I won't be mentioning my score... all I will say is DAMN YOU PUTTER!!!! Lol

Thanks Jacob - I appreciate your playing and commenting! I admit I did try to offset the firm greens (which I worked to make more than fair) with a shorter, more scoreable-course. Perhaps too scoreable. But glad you enjoyed, thank you!

Hey Greg, I had a chance to play this the other day, and thought it was a really fun, different layout and course. Some really nice looks off the tee, and I thought the course played great. A little bit more finesse with shapes and sculpting (my two biggest issues as well) and I think you could really make the jump to the next tier of designers. Keep up the good work dude!

Thanks very much Matt! I agree - those are the two areas I struggle with the most. Still working on them! Thanks again

Just finished my rounds and had 16-18 mph winds most of the round until they died down to a more controllable 12 mph near the end ! Absolutely beautiful Course with well thought out holes that require good planning prior to your tee shot. Happy to say this course also plays very well in the high winds. Hate it when a designer only plans for low winds. Totally enjoyed myself and the challenge. Look forward to returning and trying to lower my score. Thanks for your time and congrats on a great course!

I have to agree with Matt on this one. Fun course, nice layout, but the brush shapes and sculpting could be cleaner... especially the fairway sculpting. There's one short par 4 that if you attack with anything more than a 4/5 iron you end up in the rough because of the mounding in the fairway that kicks you into said rough. I would also say that the greens are a bit overcooked given the firm conditions. Too many sidehillers for firm imo. I'm also going to disagree with the comment that it sets up well for TGC2. The greens are ok, but you'll have to flatten out many of the landing areas. The ball is MUCH more responsive to fairway contours in TGC2.
All of that being said, it's still a solid course. Once you clean up some rough edges around your courses in the future you're going to wow us. Well done, Greg.

Very nice course Greg, thoroughly enjoyed my round here, some nice thinking holes off the tee. A bit more smoothing of the fairway bumps, I like them to roll off a mound rather than the squirt this game gives you. Not your fault the game engine doesn't seem to cope well with sharp mounds and the ball can fly off in any direction. I thought the firmness was spot on, everybody has their own opinion though, otherwise the world would be a boring place.
Keep them coming mate

Don't know how I missed this when it came out! I've got a couple rounds elsewhere scheduled for this morning, but will be adding Durnwick Golf Club to the list of courses to check out.
God, I hope it's not 18 mph winds though! :-)

Thanks for your time and congrats on a great course! Thanks Thomas! Sorry for the delay in my reply, missed it. I appreciate your critique. Especially noticing the planning required off the tee before hitting the ball - I have always liked those types of holes myself rather than the grip-it-and-rip-it teeshots. Glad you enjoyed the course!

Got my round here done this afternoon. I can't really figure out why, but I liked the look and feel of the back 9 much more than the front. Maybe it something to do with a caffeine deficiency, or maybe your design ideas/philosophy changed along the way.
Had no major bones to pick with the links approach, complete with the lay of the land being embraced rather than "tamed" by a steam roller. Maybe one or two of the higher off-fairway features were a little dramatic for the theme, but those are more matters of personal taste. Think I finished -2 or -3 in 12-14 mph winds. I'll take it! A pretty challenging course overall.
Thx for investing your time to produce Durnwick, Greg. Oh... had a pint of Strongbow and the lamb & rosemary pie in the pub afterward.... a nice complement to my round at Durnwick Golf Club.
