So what you're saying is that I need to pretty much win the FedEx in order to make the team. Well at least I have a goal now Don't sell yourself short. To be from New to 96th in the world is a hell of an accomplishment. To even be considered shows how good of a player you are. You don't have to win the fed ex to make the team. 3 top 10's and you will be a very hot topic indeed. Not saying that gets you in, but it puts you right there with others. Given enough time I think you would have been on the verge of an automatic position.

I was 4. Not old enough to remember it, but alive nonetheless. I was 26, remember it well. Right in my wheelhouse. Just got my real Ryder Cup tickets in the mail today! Super excited. Annoyingly expensive, but I decided when is it going to be "local" to me again, I need to go. i made the drive from Oklahoma to Chicago for the Ryder Cup 2012 ( yeah, that's my profile pic). Had a blast even though the Euros came back to win on Sunday. It was fun partying with the Euro fans during the weekend though. You'll love it, enjoy every minute

Will be nice to spend some time with my father who is now in his 70's

August 24 - The sweating has officially begun on the cut line for The Barclays. A key step in moving up the Fed Ex list requires me to make this cut. Currently sitting T39 at -12 with 26 hours to go has me sweating. Consider there are probably 5 players with Fridays round to post who will certainly equal or pass me (3 @ -9, plus a handful at -8, -7 and -6). Add in the fact that there are currently 17 players in the top 100 WGR who have yet to start their round. I predict 17 players (whether in that group entirely, or if a couple of those miss, those beyond that mark) will pass my current score of -12. There are also 10 players tied at -12 currently.
T39 + 5 partial players, + 17 yet to start is 61. Basically 61-71st place would be the -12 players. I think my odds of making the cut are about 4 in 10 currently. Hail Mary Full of Grace it is time to head to my nearest Synagogue.
Look for a Ryder cup update on Friday as we look toward the weekend. A key weekend for the automatic qualifying positions. JT Current detailed his desire to make this team and so far has solidified that desire with a US topping -22 under and T2 position. That is how you make a Ryder Cup team. Our 12 shooter is starting to get some pretty powerful bullets.

I hope I don't get double penalized for missing the Masters being out of the country for my job. I really wanted to play that event!! And now with the extra points the majors bring in a Ryder cup year, now it creating a bigger gap between me (9th) and 8th place. Yes there's a decent gap between me in 9th and 8th place, but I'm also 1100 pts up on 10th place. Even I come in around 25th which is mediocre, that would be quite a few points added to my resume. Also, I think I did a fine job in the Pres cup last year, got us plenty of points. With the CC design contest over, I'll be putting the extra time into my game and not the designer. It may not pay off, but I play much better when I have course knowledge. Most of my 'bad' weeks are the weeks I went in blind and just played by first round ever in the tournament. Dale, I think you easily have the best resume among those vying for a captain's pick. Highest FedEx Points Rank, highest WGR, 2nd most Top 5s in Season two, 2nd most Top 10s in Season two, and tied for 1st for most top 25s in Season two. Not to mention being ranked the top in Ryder Cup points among non-automatic qualifiers.

In addition I will include my own personal struggle to keep my PGA tour card (need to stay in the top 70) as I am currently on a razor's edge in that regard. Per the official End Of Season thread, and clarified by Doyley, you only need to make the Deutsche Bank field to keep your card. That would be the top 100.

I alluded to JT Current and the Ryder Cup. Bob Balzhiser is doing much the same in trying to claim one of the 4 captains pick. In a tight captain pick race he is T5 at -21. Nice work sir.

Well I didn't finish all that strong, going -8/-8. Played along side Bob's ghost and he was VERY solid, particularly the final round. Either way I'm OK with -38 total, but should have taken advantage of a few more good opportunities.

August 26 - RYDER CUP UPDATE - KEY NOTATIONS
As I noted in my original Ryder Cup post, my intent is to "follow the data" to victory. As such a bit of research (and insight from others (thank you)) revealed that the Ryder cup point system was undervaluing people who play in Europe primarily. We can argue whether the Euro tour or the PGA tour is better. Which is easier to obtain a result? I for one think a top 5 on the Euro is harder (duh), but top 10, top 25 are a little easier. That is my view of the Euro Ryder Cup team as well.
I looked at some of the key Americans on the Euro money list and wanted to find a good way to compare them to PGA onshore players. To quote Randy Moss, "Straight Cash Homey" does not work because of the Euro/Dollar conversion. On average a PGA event has a purse of 6.1M, while a Euro event is at 2.4M. In order to find an "Adj income" I had to factor in where they play and how that would be converted to Ryder Cup points onshore. The below is that breakdown. Taking a sample of the winnings vs Ryder Cup points average of the players being measured onshore I was able to determine a realistic point total for key European playing Americans. None of them jumped to the top, but will be adding the four names in yellow to the "watch list".
As I said how people play in pressure situations will certainly matter a lot, as Ryder cup points is only part of the equation but it would be unfair not to monitor and measure the progress of these four Euro players.
WHO IS HOT, WHO IS NOT
JT Current - Top 5 Rob Dallas, Griffin Ray, Josh Cassiday, Bob Balzhiser - Top 10 John Santorella - Top 10 (Euro)
Daniel Coates, Andrew Kaleta, Brad Palm - Missed Cut Derek Stupak - Missed Cut
Top 8 Locked in This Sunday!
I intentionally waited to announce this as I wanted the top players to stay sharp this weekend, but this weekend is the cut off for automatic qualifiers. The top 8 in Ryder Cup US points will receive their invitations to participate in the 2016 Ryder Cup.
3 of the 4 Captains picks will be made in 2 weeks at the end of the BMW championship and the final spot will be made Friday Sept 23rd after the first two rounds of the Tour Championship. This gives everyone an opportunity to prepare while still giving us a chance to fully evaluate and compile a winning team.
