The next 5 weeks are going to be the biggest of my TGCT career. I currently sit 70th in Fed Ex points with a weekly cut off of 100-70-30 the next three weeks. I am currently 40th on the money list in True Sim Tour with cutoffs of 60-40-30. Add to both of those, the extremely competitive Ryder Cup 2016 in 5 short weeks. As captain of the US Ryder Cup there is a lot of important results during the playoffs that will factor into my (and Irving R. Levine) thinking in regards to our Ryder Cup captains choices.
I plan on updating this thread a couple of times a week as we progress, maybe more often the deeper and closer we get. While the US Ryder Cup top 8 (auto qualifiers) are separating themselves on points, the rest of the US team (Captain picks) is wide open. The next 4 weeks of rounds will be key to US players wanting to make the Ryder Cup. I hope to give you an insight into our thinking in "live" time about the results and the potential effects on the 4 US Ryder cup captains picks.
In addition I will include my own personal struggle to keep my PGA tour card (need to stay in the top 70) as I am currently on a razor's edge in that regard.

August 22nd - Who are the candidates for a Ryder Cup spot? Just coming up with a list of candidates is tough. There is a 95% chance the names in this blog will earn a spot on the 2016 Ryder Cup Team. 100%? No, if someone not listed below gets hot and goes 2nd, 1st, 2nd that changes a lot. If Irving or I go 2nd, 1st, 2nd it wont be enough, but might be for someone else just below this list.
What we do know: The top 8 are separating themselves from the group. #8 has a 1300 point lead on #9. Could people in the top 8 struggle and miss the event entirely? Sure, but there is a gap growing. We also know that Griffin Ray will need to lead this team the way he has led the Ryder Cup points, by being the best of the best of the best, sir. We will have some great underdog stories, of winning records from captain picks, but Griffin will carry our flag into the arena of battle.
What we don't know: The below list is long, cumbersome and talented. I truly believe we will win the 2016 Ryder Cup IF I make the right choices for players 9-12 (most likely from the below players). If we fail it is on me for not putting the right pieces in the right places. Is Europe tough? Is Europe really good? Maybe even favored? Yes, Yes, Yes!!!! I do believe Europe is top heavy however. This is a team event and getting the right players in 5-12 in the right matches equals victory for the US. How do I plan on maximizing our chances of getting the right people in the right places? Data.
What does this mean: The data above (and others which Irving and I are not sharing) will provide the answers. I included the Majors, the Players Championship and the last 7 events of the year. Playing well when the pressure is on and fields are elite is what the US Ryder Cup team is about. I did not include the WGC events as they have elite fields, but often less pressure. They are not the titles people want (imo). The last 7 events will be weighted. Play well in the next 3 week and it could make all the difference. Miss an event? it will be a discussion point (not a deal breaker) when decided on who represents the US. The greatest ability is avail-ability and we won (and lost) matches during the presidents cup because of un-availability.
If you are on the list above, how are you trending? If good, keep it up. If struggling of late, now is the time to fix it. The playoffs are here and it is time to show your true talents. Irving and I will not select our friends, the best talker on the boards, or a key name who has struggled of late. We will follow the data to victory.
Could the US be overmatched on day one? perhaps. Will we lose by Sunday, I truly unapologetically don't think so. We certainly wont lose because of preparedness.

I like the look of this, Nic. I think recent form is especially valuable here, so it'll be very interesting to see how the guys on the bubble play down the stretch. Good luck to you guys!
My selection as a captain's pick last year really propelled me into season 2 with the right momentum. My first round was a bit shaky and nervous, but I was proud of how I finished, especially as the low scorer in the singles matches. That gave me added confidence, probably leading to my breakout season.
The best part of these events is representing your country! Go USA!

I care deeply, DEEPLY, about winning this thing, and victory through data is the answer.

As Captain of the President's cup last year, I suggest you look at Bob B's record there. He was new to the tour then and played very well to help us win it. He's been there before, shoots well under pressure and would make a good edition to your team.

I hope I don't get double penalized for missing the Masters being out of the country for my job. I really wanted to play that event!! And now with the extra points the majors bring in a Ryder cup year, now it creating a bigger gap between me (9th) and 8th place. Yes there's a decent gap between me in 9th and 8th place, but I'm also 1100 pts up on 10th place. Even I come in around 25th which is mediocre, that would be quite a few points added to my resume.
Also, I think I did a fine job in the Pres cup last year, got us plenty of points. With the CC design contest over, I'll be putting the extra time into my game and not the designer. It may not pay off, but I play much better when I have course knowledge. Most of my 'bad' weeks are the weeks I went in blind and just played by first round ever in the tournament.

The gap between 8th and 9th is greater than my total number of points.

Really looking forward to the Ryder Cup. It really is my favorite golf event, barely edging out The Masters. As Ben Crenshaw said back in '99, "I'm a big believer in fate. I have a good feeling about this. That's all I'm gonna say."
I wonder if Griffin was alive back then?

Right in my wheelhouse. Just got my real Ryder Cup tickets in the mail today! Super excited. Annoyingly expensive, but I decided when is it going to be "local" to me again, I need to go.

So what you're saying is that I need to pretty much win the FedEx in order to make the team. Well at least I have a goal now
