Any information on a (open) beta phase?
Didn't check all the threads on the HB forum...

It would seem bizarre if you could pick and choose what difficulty you wanted to use for each shot. This is what was stated on the HB Dev Diary:
◾a) Swing – we’re currently looking at a 3 level swing mechanic. The easy level will very much be based off of what we have now, but with tempo added and a distance reduction, Hard will be very punishing if in any way off centre and the tempo isn’t correct but when it’s good you will get a considerably further distance. Doing this gives us the variation we want, the difficulty some want and brings in the actual point of multiple tees.
What would be interesting to know is: How much further does the Hard level go? If it's 10 yards then is that really much of an advantage going from say a 7 iron to a 6 iron for your approach?
Don't think I like the statement of "Hard will be very punishing if in any way off center and the tempo isn't correct". I hit maybe one or two shots in a tournament that look slightly straight and some already claim that certain stock controllers are easier to hit straighter than other brands.
As for the "Brings in the actual point of multiple tees". I wonder if by choosing the so called easier swing you play the hole from the forward tees, hard would be from the back ones? Guess we'll find out about that one soon as I've no idea how you would create a course to accommodate that feature? I think you're making this too complicated. Regardless of what swing you choose, everybody will be playing off the same tees. If you choose the easiest setting, your ball will travel the least amount of distance. If you choose the hardest setting, your ball will travel the greatest distance. If I had to guess, using the driver as the default, and looking at what the pros are hitting off the tees, I'd say it will probably break down like this. Hardest = 300 yards Medium = 275 yards Easiest = 250 yards So a good 50 yard difference between the easiest and hardest swings for the driver. For irons maybe the difference between the long irons will be 20 yards. Ultimately, unless the designers start making the courses much longer, there's really not going to be much difference between using the setting we have now and the new easiest setting. Most holes you don't really need a driver anyway and a 3 wood will be good enough. For those holes, using the driver on the new easiest setting, you're still carrying farther than the 3 wood off the old system. That's why I'm really not sweating these changes. I have no desire to use the hardest setting. Maybe I'll try medium. But I'm sure that using the easiest setting I'll score just as well as I'm scoring now. Those who master the hardest setting are probably already better than me anyway and beating me anyway. So they'll just beat me by that much more. Big whoop. A loss is a loss, whether it's by 2 strokes or 22 strokes. Whatever TGC 2 brings to the table, trust me, you're going to see the same guys at the top and the same guys at the bottom. Nobody is going to suddenly go from playing in the PGA and finishing in the top 25 consistently to missing cut after cut, week after week. For one thing, nobody is going to be stupid enough to take on a difficulty setting that they can't handle. They'll play the setting that allows them to score the way they scores in TGC 1. Ian Sweeney will play hardest and he'll still be number 1. Water always seeks its own level.

Well currently the "difficult" drive mode adds about 5 yards, so to make it really rewarding it would have to enable a driver to go over 300+ yards. It would be well worth it on some par 5s. Otherwise I'm not sure how worth while it will be on every other shot. Maybe if you are 215 with an uphill approach, you might want to put a little extra on a 3 iron rather than play a 5wood, but really that is about it. Why power through an 8iron when you can play a 6 with no difficulty? There may be a reason tho....
As for tempo, I have no issues with tempo being a part of a swing. As it stands now, it really doesn't play as much as a role as it should. If you have ever seen Charles Barkley swing you'll understand what zero tempo looks like.
I'm hoping that they will take out super lofting for long irons and substitute it for cranking a 7 iron harder. You are still getting the loft of the 7 iron but it is going 4-5 iron length cause of a harder swing. I'd be okay with this. As for loft for shorter clubs like a LW or SW, the proper way to hit a shot of 65 yards with a LW isn't to add loft, but it is to take a 3/4 backswing. Less speed with the same loft equals less distance. I would really like to see this being implemented. Also for shots like that it is okay to take a slower back swing and then rip it through. I am hoping that with any shot there will be multiple ways of executing it. The safe, standard way which may require a bit of unwanted roll, the harder shot which includes a higher # club with a quicker tempo which if executed right it will roll less, but if you miss hit it, there may be disaster waiting or finally a 3/4 shot with a lower # shot in which you are planning to bump it before the green and roll it up. This would be awesome. Choice is good.
Sadly, I'm afraid regardless of how it will come out, there will be those who will master it or find ways to make shots that weren't fully intended by the developers. I really do hope that TGC opens it up to the folks here at TGCTours for some beta testing to see what we can come up with that they might not have thought of.

While watching the video again it looked like the default distance for a driver was 240, so this must be the normal, easy mode they were talking about. I like that. It means to even get to the 265 it is currently you are going to have to practice and missing will cause more of a penalty off the tee or on approach shots. From the get go, it looks like in order to just get back to where we are currently, you'll have to invest in at least the 2nd hardest tier. If true I like this. It makes the game harder to get back to where we are, but gives you the opportunity to "go for" a much tougher shot to get more distance, ect. Hopefully it will be very hard to do and no one will be able to 'master' it and do it every shot, but use it in cases where there is some true 'risk/reward' like trying to get to a par 5 in two rather than 3.
Reading about the swing and "shot shaper" it definitely seems they will be taking out super loft/de-loft so you can't dial in your distances as easy and probably will move to partial swings or 90% swings or a slower tempo/follow through like the pros have to do if they are in between clubs. What would be real interesting is if they take out the ease to which fade/draw is done and make it where you have to do an inside/out swing for a fade on the controller/mouse. Be hard as @!$# to accomplish consistently but would be very interesting. Part of me hopes they leave fade/draw the way it is now.

The "fade/draw with the stick" mechanics is almost impossible to get right IMO. Always ends up relatively much more difficult than it is in real life to shape the ball. What we have now is the other way of course.

I lay up on most par 5s anyway, so it currently doesn't affect me lol... Except we finally have waterfalls!

You can't wipe the slate clean, then you're rendering these last couple of years useless. This is coming from a cc-c with no a hope in hell in moving up.

Maybe restarting would give world no. 2 a chance to be at least within 10 strokes of Sweeny lol

I posted these club distances for hopeful swing difficulties a few months ago on HB forums. The easy difficulty driver was the 100mph swing speed of 240yards. Freaky. Let's hope this is balanced great and the hard swing of around 288yards or whatever they choose is very hard to pull of consistently if that's the route they are going, which I hope it is. www.hb-studios.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=13459.0;attach=5870;imagewww.hb-studios.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=13459.0;attach=5872;image

I'm mainly very, very interested in the tempo. Having a swing that is hard to get the tempo down is very important. A few days ago, I lightened up on a wedge on #17 at Sawgrass on Rory McIlroy and got a -6% slow swing and dumped it in the water. Doubt anyone hit it in the water on that hole in the Players on this game. A tough tempo swing could make this game much more realistic and allow designers to make more realistic courses as well.

Safe to say, I'll be disappointed if the tempo part they mentioned just means that we can't pause at the top anymore. It needs to be more detailed. I'd also like the swing to be locked in a tournament. The yardage isn't that big of a deal. I just want shots that are a little offline on the stick to actually make a bigger difference in the result of the ball flight. Any sort of noticeable curve at the top should be enough to nearly miss a fairway or green on one side.

I know it's a long way off, but one change I would like to see implemented for whenever TGC2 tours gets setup, is to keep the weekly tournament course conditions / pin placements information unknown.
Ultimately time is a major factor in this game, and anyone who has the time to continually practice courses leading up to events has a significant advantage on other competitors. The introduction of a practice putting green (with exact same green speeds to the relevant course) would be a fantastic addition to allow golfers the chance to become familiar with the speed of greens prior to each round. Publishing course conditions and pin placements in advance allows for a robotic experience for those who have the time to practice courses over and over again, and in my opinion delivers a very unrealistic experience for all tournament competitors.

Only time you ever dump it in the water is if you are taking an overly risky shot. Needs to be more impactful
