Well, I was finally able to setup a 2 day (Thurs/Fri) practice tour with conditions pretty close to what I'll be seeing, at least for round 1. Round 2's winds for the practice were also pretty strong (about 10 to 12 mph) but not as bad as round 1. Anyway, shot 1 under and 7 under for the two rounds. If I can do this when it counts, I may come close, but I don't think it's going to be good enough and that may be for the best. Really torn about all of this. Yeah, it would be cool to play in the Web. But then the reality of making cuts and playing some courses brutally worse than anything I've seen in CC makes this all not so appealing. Point is, if I come up short, it may be for the best because I really don't think I'm cut out for this grind. I mean this course is plain exhausting. It's the first one I ever made charts for and in these conditions, I might as well just toss them out the window and play by my gut, which is pretty much what I just did. Anyway, when Thursday comes I'll know either way. Trust me when I say it is way more fun sweating out cuts on the Web than whipping people in CC!! I worked my way up through the CC tours to get up here and have even had a couple shots at the PGA (forgot to enter a score once, or i'd be up there to). Playing tough courses only makes you that much better., I hope you play well and stick around! Exactly that. I've missed 2 out of 4 cuts since I got here, but also had a top ten. Anything can happen in the Web, if you're not on your game you'll get cut, if you are you can get yourself in the mix. And if you get cut it's not like there's nothing else to play, including a little extra practice time on the next week's course! Personally I'm very happy to be here

I have been looking forward to this since I heard it was going to be on the web, it's a fantastic course that shows how well fast and firm can be done. Then I heard about the winds and well, I am still looking forward to it, just more of a challenge and maybe just a little bit of drama. Let's see what happens. Having a straight headwind on the first was a help to ease my way into the round with difficult conditions, hitting the fairway with my first shot is important, as is finding the green, it gives that bit of confidence. I had a thirteen foot putt for birdie that stopped three inches short, something that is happening a lot lately, missing putts by a small margin, still a safe par. I was not looking forward to to par threes in the wind, I can struggle on them so I was pleasantly surprised to find myself within eight feet on the second, not a easy putt, downhill with hard to read break, thankfully, I got it right for my first birdie of the day. The third was playing difficult in that wind but again I managed a good approach, my birdie putt was pretty much identical to my previous one with the same result, two under. Tailwinds on par fives are always welcome, the problem comes with stopping the ball, mine went flying off the back of the green, still I was in a good position to get it close and birdie and that's what I did. A good opening few holes so a mistake was over due and that came on the fifth, I planned to play as short as possible to roll towards the hole, so imagine my surprise when my ball cleared the green completely with out landing on it at all, I clubbed down instead of it, what a idiot I am. Luckily my ball was so deep in bushes I could hide my embarrassment, unfortunately those bushes were poison ivy and I was wearing shorts because of the Texas heat and it got worse when I fell back and a branch found its way up my shorts into the crack of my, well you can guess the rest. The rest of the round might be a little uncomfortable, oh i also dropped a shot. With the wind hitting twenty on the sixth, I could not reach the green, pretty much the same way I could not reach my shorts to get that damn itch, not with out being arrested for indecent exposure. I chipped close for a safe par. My good approaches had deserted me now, on seven I went to far left and into a bunker, I left myself a difficult par putt with a poor bunker shot but managed to save par with a good putt. I got my dropped shot back on the eighth, the golfing gods blessed us with another tailwind on a par five and a easy birdie. The ninth hole was difficult, I found the fairway but had no idea what to play for my second shot, a vicious crosswind confused the hell out of me, in the end, I was both left and short and in a bunker, I got up and down for par to finish a very difficult front nine at three under.
Wrong club choice on ten left me off the back of the green opposed to my plan to lay up in front of the green. The difference this time was it being a par four and finding myself at the perfect distance to flop close. Except a good flop shot is not really part of my game so I found myself with a horrible ten foot downhill putt for birdie. If I missed, I was going off the green. I played one of the best putts that I have played in a long time, speed and line were spot on, I was shocked to see it drop, I was thrilled to see it drop. The eleventh did not go well, the wind again caused chaos with my ball no where near the green, flop shot time again, ten foot putt time again. A lot easier putt this time which I hit to hard, lipped out and bogey number two of the round. Another lip out followed, this time for birdie, it was a long, heavily breaking putt that had to go a foot downhill, the fact I got it so close was amazing, pity it did not drop but more than happy with par. Thirteen was pretty scary, my tee shot was inches from hitting the flag, but the speed and curve of the green took it well away from the cup, a difficult birdie putt that I was happy to get close for safe par. Fourteen went better than I could have imagined, the tailwind meant a lot of distance on the drive leaving a short approach, shorter because of the wind. What I did not expect was to play the perfect second shot to hole out for eagle. I must remember to put that shot on my scorecard highlights later. The golfing gods finally had enough with tailwinds on par fives, making fifteen play a little bit more difficult than normal, finding the fairway was key, once I did that, there was always going to be a birdie chance which I gratefully took. I over hit my tee shot on fourteen to go off the back of the green, my chip rolled further than I would have liked and my par putt just crept in the side of the cup. I got away with that one I think. I could not get away with it on seventeen, again off the green, this time though played my chip to short, giving myself to much to do to make par, very disappointing the way I played that hole and got what I deserved. A par five to finish was just what I needed to get that shot back, the dreaded flop shot reared its ugly head again but this time I got it right for tap in birdie and to finish six under par.
I am thrilled with that score, the eagle helped big time of course. It was hard going out there, I played some great shots but was also caught out by the wind more than once. My confidence was high and no doubt that helped my through the rough patches but I still had to make those shots. It puts me in a good position heading into round two but round two still has to be played well. That's for another day, for now, going to enjoy todays result, and contact my lawyer to see can I sue the Patrick Yates for pain and suffering because of the poison ivy bush, good luck all.

That is some unreal scoring! Ola, I don't get this guy. Over at CC, he's telling everybody he'll be back in CC-A next week. If this is an attempt at humor, it's a major fail. In the meantime, I'm looking at the scores posted so far and just sitting here laughing my ass off as I prepare for next week's CC tour. See you guys back here in, oh, maybe a year or two.

The good news: I shot my age in the opener. The bad news: I'm 66. ? See, this is how I know I have no business being up here. This is bad news? I'll be lucky to break par in 16 to 20 mph winds. You will easily make the cut with this round. Yeah, it's CC-A for me next week and it can't come too soon.

What I meant was I wish I was 55. Obviously happy with a .66.
Apologize for coming across wrong way in my feeble attempt at humor.
