Haha, good question. My post will both explain some of my process and also why I take such a long time between courses :-D.
Basically, I have started over several times, tried various different styles/themes. I have, hopefully, settled on a style, which includes <insert secret GNCD invention here> which hopefully enforces the look I'm going for and adds something unique. I have laid down 1 sample hole which will almost certainly be redone... But i think im happy with the look on the whole. Planting was done quickly just to see how it looks. I won't have any complete holes until I have roughed out all 18... Many will likely be redone several times, the odd one I'll keep the first iteration of.
On top of this, I have another course which has 13 well formed holes that I would like to get done in parallel and another course to prep for tour. Going to keep me busy, I'm going to aim for 'done' in 4 weeks so I can add lots of polish, every other contest I've been laying holes up to the last minute... One of them was literally published 1 minute before the deadline! Lol

3 holes done. Well actually about 8 holes but I keep deleting them. Thinking of starting over.

Managed to get 5 holes pretty much completely done so far and have the rest of the front 9 roughly mapped out. Fortunately I have some time off work over Easter so should get everything done well inside the deadline, so if anyone wants to drop out so I can get in.............

Should be some awesome courses come out of this. This was a fantastic idea and I'm looking forward to playing them when the contest gets done. Good luck everyone!!

Ugh, I've been at the In-Laws all weekend. Haven't been able to get started yet. I know exactly what the view from the first tee will look like and like...2/3rds of the name...that's it.

I got 1.5 meters laid out, didn't like it, so ... I started over 5 more times. .. not to be out done on the "tell the world" how many times I've started working on the Olympic course.
Then, it dawned on me that I am not making a contest course this time ...
LOL

Got the name sorted, theme sorted, general course vision sorted 1st hole done, barring some polishing..... Gonna be a huge push for me, if I can average an hour a day of solid work in the designer which is achievable it will put me around 40hrs or so, only about 15 short I'd say so I've gotta get some lengthy time put in over weekends to get me home.... As for course design I haven't sketched anything yet but I have about half the holes in my head that I'll lay down and the others will come as I work the course into the plot..... Hopefully Some of you guys are really progressing unbelievably quick, damn! Ha

Made a 3rd hole today. Thought I might change my mind about the first two. The 3rd one does Look decent, but it played like a turd. That's it. Tomorrow we begin again!

Sounds like my first attempt at hole 1, finding the starting point is by far my biggest nuisance....... yeah that looks good, hang on a minute not like that, like that, yeah that's it..... Press on a bit more and realise it's absolute shite, start again..... every time without fail for me. From then on I'm fine but by jingos the first hole can bite me! Ha

I plan to let this course grow as naturally as possible. Primarily because of time but also because I need to ease back in to the tools. It's ok. I like natural layouts best anyway
