Ok, ok... I shouldn't even be playing this tournament anymore with my imminent PGA card status in another day or two. But since the PGA tournament is already a max field 144/144, I am kind of stuck in limbo here. So I thought I'd create one last Web.com spoilers thread for old time's sakes. Just in case it hasn't been posted anywhere (and I did not practice the 4 days this time around) all three green speeds are used across the four courses. This is the first time I ever recall this happening. It threw me off when I started the second round with an even par after 5 holes. The medium speed greens on round 1 gave me a real nice score of 15 under. But it took me 3 holes to realize and another 3 holes to adjust to the fact that the second had SLOW greens! Haven't seen slow greens for a long time so it was a nice change up. So a warning to all you prospective players this week... practice the slow green Friday setup!! I must have birdied out after the 5th hole or come close to it as I finished 13 under there. Round 3 had fast greens and I usually cannot muster up better than -6 on fast greens. So let me be the first to tell you that I did not expect to shoot 12 under on this one. I'm going to give credit where credit is due and say that there's no way I would have shot that low if I had not made this thread earlier this week at the clubhouse: tgctours.proboards.com/thread/6628/putting-markerBasically, I went 1100+ rounds without ever using the putting marker. Now that I've been enlightened, fast downhill greens no longer strikes fear into me. Fast forward to the fourth round, sitting at the tee box of the first hole at 39 under for the tournament. I was feeling pretty good about possibly hitting 50 under in this tournament, but tired as heck (well past midnight, well past my bedtime). I decided to finish out because I usually can't stop once I've started a tournament or tour. This turned out to be a piss poor idea. After a clean first 3 rounds, I believe my last round consisted of a triple bogey, a double bogey and two regular vanilla bogeys. So as you can see, the putting marker technique is not going to be saving you from pathetic play. I was three over at some point and was actually content with limping across the 18th hole with a birdie and an overall even par. John even gave me a nice compliment for finishing strong. So what's a spoiler thread without predictions. Here are mine for the week: Winner: -47 Top 5: -42 Top 30: -36 Cut-line: -21 Good luck to all webbers this week and thanks for tuning in!

Hey man, well done on getting your PGA card btw, I had a feeling you would create the spoiler thread we just can't keep you away from Web can we canthitstraight I have only played a couple of practice rounds on this one and it is going to be a massacre on the first 2 days that is for sure, hopefully I can make the cut first and foremost and then maybe have a crack at getting an exemption this week.

Thanks feng Well, I was hoping to just add on to an existing thread. But it had already been 12 hours since the rounds opened up without anyone stepping forward. With moving month this week, I think you'll find getting that exemption easier than you expected. Even if you don't get one of the 13 or so exemption spots this week (10% of entire field), that's 13 less people (ideally) that would be playing next week. Of course you'll have to deal with the 13 coming up from CC-A (I think it's mandatory for them), but they should, on average, not be as skilled as the webbers moving up.

Hey guys if you don't already know I'm the creator of this week's course. I think I earned my PGA card last tournament (I made the cut so idk what that means! Haha) but I've already played the 4 rounds and shot -37 I think. Anyways here's a fun little back story on Royal Burberry Black.
Formally Burberry Black, this is a very old course that is nested between the Black Cliffs and Burberry Bay. Built in 1881, Burberry Black was a simple 9 hole course consisting of challenging elevation changes and undulating greens. In 1893, the final nine holes were completed. Since there wasn't very much room for the layout you will see a shared fairway and green.
With such a tight layout some will take unconventional paths to conquer this course. But this strategy is not always the best. Since this course is so old and tightly routed, it is a walking only course, hence the un-sculpted paths and roughness to the course over all.
There will be plenty of birdie opportunities due to all the new modern equipment but you still must be careful and precise or you could see some high numbers like canthitstraight unfortunately had lol. Also finding the fairway is a must since there is hardly any light rough.
I hope you guys enjoy the course. I know there's a lot of rough areas design wise but remember this course is nearing it's 135th anniversary!
P.S. Don't go too low! The PGA will eat you alive.

Didn't use the yellow marker until a couple of months ago when I saw a post by Doyley basically saying that he "strongly disagreed" with someone who said the marker was irrelevant. This made me prick my ears up and revisit the use of it. Using it was like second nature after a week or so and I haven't looked back since. Just for the record I was in CC-E just sixteen weeks ago and this weekend I will be getting a sponsors exemption to play on the web tour. Not all down to the yellow marker but it certainly helped!

Good luck getting your card Peter, it would be great to see a regular poster from the challenge circuit up here. Feeling homesick for the challenge circuit, some familiar faces moving up would be nice. You have made amazing progress that last couple of months, keep up the good work.

Thanks Dan for your kind comments. I'm looking forward to the challenge of making the cut this week and that's pretty much all I'm focussed on atm. I've been practising Burberry during the week in anticipation of receiving the exemption and I played my first tourney round this morning before I went to work. Shot a sub 60 round so naturally I'm delighted with that and will be looking to do the same for round two. First two rounds are by far the easiest so there will be some low scores to contend with. Looking forward to your first round report and good luck!

Really good start to the tour this week. I was -7 thru 9 holes but on the back 9 the birdies dried up. I made a huge mistake on 18 and hit water off the tee. I hit a decent shot in and would have been fairly satisfied to get off with a 2 putt par. Fortunately for me my 25 footer found the hole to get in the club house at -10.
Round 2 was a very similar front 9, once more I found myself -7 thru 9. This time the birdies kept on coming. On the 18th tee I was -14 and this time my tee shot was safely in the fairway. With only 182 yards left to the green on this short par 5 I played a risky shot over the bunker.... It looked good in the air. The ball pitched and hit the pin. It did not drop for my first ever albatross but it did stay close and a tap in eagle finished a very pleasing round and leaves me at -26 thru 36 holes.
Beautiful golf course but birdies are a must this week. Cut line will be in the -20's for sure.
Good luck guys, play well.
