Mark Wood just finished up with a very respectable round of 67 here at Kodiak. Are there questions?
What did you think of the course? Well it definitely lives up to its name and can be a real bear. Some of those holes you just can't get a decent birdie look at. The fairways are pretty generous and I liked that a lot. My practice rounds here were very up and down...I played some of the holes pretty good and had some birdies but bogeys or worse always killed my rounds. My caddie and I sat down with a few cold ones last night and devised a game plan we thought could work. Turns out I shot my best round here by following the plan to take what the course gave us and not force the issue. Birdies were hard to come by so we tried to play smart and eliminate bogeys or worse.
What was the highlight today? I was focused and just played shot to shot. I can't really remember any shots that stood out. I think the highlight today was the work with the flat stick. I had a lot of long putts that I easily could of 3 putted but I was lagging those putts really well. I didn't leave myself many testers to save par. I felt really good through the bag today and hit almost every shot I visualized with success. This led to making our plan a reality and shooting a bogey free round.
Any shots you'd like to have back? No not really. Like I said earlier my putter was performing well today. I did have 4 or 5 long putts that had a real chance to go in but they came up just a bit off. I missed a very makeable birdie putt that frustrated me at the time but I didn't let it affect me. I dialed the focus back up and moved on to the next shot. My round could have been 3-5 shots better if some of those putts had dropped. Looking at the flip side I saved a couple of pars early in the round after a couple of tee shots found the rough. Those easily could have been bogeys and my round could have been 3-5 shots worse. So I guess it all evens out and Overall I'm very happy with this round. I think it should move me up the leader board.
With one round remaining how have you performed relative to your expectations? Heading into QSchool I wasn't playing as well as I had been earlier in the season so I didn't know what to expect really. Frankly nerves got the best of me at yeti. I righted the ship to some degree at whispering river but followed that up with a disappointing over par round at copper creek. I've played very solid golf shooting -11 the last couple of rounds on some difficult tracks. Coming in I would have been happy with a cumulative -20 effort and that is still within reach. So I guess I'm about right on what I expected.
Thanks for the questions guys and wish me luck at the last q-school stop as I try to wrap up a pga tour card.

Reporters tried to stop Robert Davis as he walked off the green at 18 at Copper Creek, however, he walked right past them without comment.
Apparently he was still upset about questions he faced about his off course business dealings earlier in the week.

Matt finished with an even par 72 at Mount Yeti.
It's been a while since you last competed on any tour . Were any adjustments to your game needed? Probably went almost a month without playing any golf. Got in a few practice rounds the other day and the rust showed. Today I played the same style as always. The results were mixed. A few times a normal recovery or approach shots were way off.
What was the highlight of your round? Sinking an eagle putt on 17. I was 3 over and struggling. That momentum carried me on to birdie the 18th and finish up even par.
Anything you regret out there? Back to back bogies at the 3rd and 4th.
What did you think of the course? The course was fine. The average 17 mph winds put me in some bad spots a few times.
How did you fare on the leaderboard? Didn't really pay attention to it. Main goal was limit the damage on overall total for qualifying.

Better results in round 2 as Matt Seymour finished Whispering River with a 68 (-4).
What was the highlight of your round? The strong finish on 18. Hit a slight draw against the wind with a 3 wood. Missed about a 20 foot plus eagle but tapped in for the bird.
What was the low-light of your round? Missed chances. Only one bogey on the card, but left quite a few putts out there.
What did you think of the course? It's a fair test. Make proper approach shots and see what you can do with the putter. The backside yields a bit and you have to take advantage.
What do you think of your current position? It's still too early to know. I think today's round may have bought me a few more spots when the final results are posted.

Crawford Mines Press Tent:
Hey Stephen, how was your first Q School?
Well as expected it was a true test of my entire golf game. I would like to thank Tim, Scott, Job, Chris and Jeff and the rest of their team at TGCTours for putting on this event it must have been a ton of work to get this thing up and running and to get all these golfers through these six courses. Of course Thanks to HB Studios for all they did as well. This was impressive.
What about the courses?
It was a diverse mix...some suit my game others did not but they all made me focus on every shot and that is the point of all this at the end of the day. They were all in phenomenal shape hats off the the supers.
Any surprises on the leaderboard?
Well Birchy got shot out of a cannon....wow...congrats to him for some impressive golf out of the gate. Wendy being up there with the big boys is good to see as well...I'm surprised only because her design business is so busy I didn't think she had much time to work on her game....she must not get much sleep. Its great to see some new names up there, that bodes well for the tours. The rest of the top scores are no surprise at all, the cream has risen to the top.
What about your finish is it what you expected?
Well I wanted to make it to Hawaii with Team XBox One. I put myself in position to do that (-34) but there are some big names out on the course who can knock me out of my spot so I haven't packed my sunscreen yet. Crawford surprised me. I really have had a lot of success there in the past but I really had a hard time making up the ground I wanted to (67). I messed up the short par 4s.....I normally play to a full PW but after having success at Kodiak playing to full LW I tried to continue that and left myself with in between clubs with some odd distances which I totally botched.....probably cost me 4-5 strokes which might come back to bite me. We'll all know soon enough.
What was your highlight?
Probably how I played the Par 5's at Whispering I knew I could make a move there and I took some chances to get myself some eagle looks and they paid off....not with eagles but with tap in birdies...except for 18 that is I had 30 odd feet up the hill and when that went in for eagle (-11) I nearly ripped my caddies arm off with our awkward golfer-caddie high five/fist bump/bro hug. So now after playing Crawford my Whispering round really feels good. After Whispering I just wanted to not hurt myself at Copper/SunnyG/and Kodiak....and 5 and 4s under on those where huge.
Congrats to all my fellow golfers out there....good luck the rest of the way and on Tour.

So I saw after your last practice round at Crawford Mines you turned right around to play your official round. What happened?
I had one of those rounds out on the course where the wind was perfect, the putts were dropping and everything was right with the world. I was originally going to wait a couple more days to play my final round, but after the practice round I decided to just go for it.
Sounds like you had a good practice round, how'd you shoot?
I ended up -12 for the round including two eagles and I just missed a hole in one on #8. I had aced it yesterday and was a foot short today in that practice round.
How did your official round go?
I didn't score -12, but I was happy with the result. After a birding #1, I had a tee shot on number two that perplexed me. With no wind my shot didn't go at the pin as expected but took a right turn, the club must have slipped. I missed saving par with a lip out but that was my only bogey on the round. I was -2 at the turn, once again missing an Ace on #8 as i hit the pin. Sadly the shot ricochet about 20 feet away and I missed that birdie. The back nine was solid and I had three birdie putts just hang on the edge. It was frustrating but that is what makes this course so good. You have the opportunity for birdies and you have to finish. There can be no error when it comes to putting. In the end I shot a very nice 65 (-6).
How did you end up for the full Q-School?
I'm sitting at -22, so I believe I'm well within the top 250 for my tour card. I'm hoping to be in the top 100. I think there is room for me to move up in future events, but over all being the first tournament I happy with how I did and definitely feel there is room to grow.
Any parting advice or thoughts?
Crawford Mines is definitely a place you can pick up shots. My suggestion is practice and when you find a time that the winds are low, take your crack at it then. Do not be afraid to use a little loft on your clubs, just adding a degree or two of loft can make the difference between a 5 foot putt or a 20 foot putt. That to me is the easiest way to offset the elevation changes while still being in control of the ball. Lastly, make sure you identify the five or six holes you really don't want to be too aggressive with unless you have the perfect wind. There are a couple holes where you shot to the green goes over a lot of water and coming up just short will kill your round, so either take an extra club if you are in doubt or lay up safe. It is a lot better to get a good short chip to get close for par, than it is to have to retake the shot you just dumped into the lake and play safe, then doing that same short chip to lay up for a hopeful bogey or worse. Bottom line, respect the course and know your limitations. Par is an awfully good score on some of those holes. I would only pin hunt if you are right at that cut line of -1 through -3. This course will play under par so you need to make sure you score under par as well, even if it is one or two under.
Good luck all.. I'm outta here for a well deserved rest.

What was the low-light of your round/tournament? Sipping on a whisky and diet coke while playing What was the low-light of your round/tournament? Getting to the end of the third round, looking at my score, and thinking maybe I was having too much fun I think the whisky and d coke explains the confusion of this post. Just out of curiosity, what was the HIGH light of your round?
Dang you quoted me before I could edit it! Unfortunately, I have no excuse for that.

Mattias, how about a quick word after your round? Please, call me Matt.
Ok Matt, you just finished your final round of Q-school here at Crawford Mines. How was your round today? Yea, it was pretty solid actually. I had some first tee nerves but it settled down after my birdie putt on #1 found the bottom of the cup. Crawford Mines is a course where you can find birdies if you stay patient but you can't relax for a second or the course will bite back hard. I had done my homework during practice with a -12 and a -11 and managed a bogey free 62 (-9) in the official round today. So I'm very happy!
What was your goal for Q-school and how did you do? Well, going in I was hoping to get my PGA tour card. After two solid rounds of 65 and 63 to start Q-school, I really caught fire at Copper Creek with a 62. At that point I felt I could aim a little higher and set my sights on a top-30 spot and an invitation to the Hyundai ToC. Son Gual was a solid 66 but Kodiak really showed it's teeth and I could only manage a 71. I figured a 64 at Crawford could get me into the ToC and I managed to finish birdie-birdie to beat that by two shots. Had a -41 total for Q-school so I guess now I wait and see.
How has the experience of Q-school and tournament golf been for you? Amazing! Really nice! This was just what we needed and it's been so well organized. All the people involved in TGCTours and Q-school are doing an amazing job and we are all very fortunate to be here. All the players here are doing their best and everyone deserves praise for their efforts. Even the media is doing a stellar job!
So whats next for you now? Like I said, I'm going to have a nervous time waiting to see if I get in the ToC. I'll probably spend my time on my other venture, my budding golf course design company. Looking to get our first course ready for play sometime in the next couple of weeks. Right now though, I'm getting a well deserved drink!
Ok Matt, thank you for your time! No, thank YOU.

Mark Wood how was your round today at Crawford Mines? I started out on fire with birds on 4 of the first 5 holes. I really felt comfortable. I might have lost focus after that start and wasn't leaving myself many good looks at birdie starting on hole 6. I was cruising along at -7 when I stepped up to the tee on 16. I hit 5 wood here in my practice rounds and had decent looks at birdie but i had to hit that thing full. For some reason I didn't quite catch it flush and splashed one. I struggled to a triple there. It was probably the worst hole of my tournament. I finished up with a bird on 18 to post a -5. That triple ruined a good round for me but hey I still posted a decent number.
Are you satisfied with how you played in Q school? Overall I'd say Im satisfied. I shot a -21 and my goal was -20. After my bad start at Mt yeti I was around place 200 and have been steadily moving up the board the last few rounds. I was in 134th heading into Kodiak and posted a pretty good round there. I think I might be in that 100-125 range in the final rundown. I feel I definitely left some shots out there though. I'm going to have to hit the range and try to work some of the kinks out of my swing before the season kicks off.
Are you planning on the pga or European tour to call home? I selected the pga tour. I think my score should be good enough to get me a card there. Im from the U.S. so it would cut down on travel if I played at home. I'm not going to kid myself though I'll be battling to make cuts wherever I land.
any final thoughts? I just hope I continue to improve, play solid golf and maybe get hot somewhere and give myself a chance. Thanks for covering my quest. I appreciate everything the staff here at Tgctours is doing to breathe life into this game of golf and giving all of us participants a place to ply our trade. Can't forget all of awesome course designers either. All of these tracks were in excellent condition although I think they could of used a little more water and softened a few of them up a notch. I'm looking forward to the upcoming season. Thanks again.

Son Gual, 60
What was the highlight of Round 4 at Son Gual? This was a course I thought I could get a few strokes on the field. I find I play well on the firm fast courses and today was a good example of that. I put many approach shots close enough to let the putter do the talking. No one shot stands out, just solid play throughout the day. When I was in trouble there were recovery shots waiting to bail me out. Moving day was a success.
What was the low-light of your round/tournament? While everything did go well, there was one putt that I wish I could have put another ounce of power on as it was dead center of the cup but stopped 1 roll short of dropping. Would have tied me for the low score for the round.
What did you think of the course? Son Gual has a love hate type of feel to it. You pretty much fall on one side of that fence. My preference for the firm fast courses allows me to enjoy the challenge that Son Gual provides. Pin hunting here requires a completely different approach than on more receptive courses. When you do nail that 20 yard roll up to the pin it's just as rewarding as draining a long putt. The course itself was one of the first desert courses to stand out and Wendy has just improved since then. It's nice to see the progression from what she did on Son Gual to some of her newer creations.
How did you fare on the leaderboard? Who were you trying to beat? This could be the turning point for me at Q-School. I was hanging around pretty well at the top of the leaderboard but with most people shooting mid-60's at Son Gual I managed to pick up a few strokes on most of leaders. I'm positioned well heading into Kodiak Reserve although it's the only course I haven't played more than once. So there is a bit of an uneasy feeling heading into Round 5. I'm going in with realistic expectations and hoping to come out with at least a 66.

Kodiak Reserve, 65
Now that you've got the leader in your sights how did the dreaded Kodiak Reserve go? I already knew the leader had a tough time at Kodiak Reserve heading into my round and wanted to take advantage of the opportunity. Good starts is where it's at, right? My par-bogey start was not what I had in mind. It was a grind out there let me tell you! A couple of birds to finish out the F9 had me sitting at 3-under after the turn. Not terrible, and on pace for my goal of 66 set after the round at Son Gual. So I guess we need to talk about the 11th then, right?
Yes, the 11th - we assume that was the highlight of your round? Yes, by far the 11th was the best hole of the day. Short par 4 with a reachable drive. We managed to navigate the hazards and roll into the rough on the right of the green, about 11 yards out. A nice chip, favourable roll and in it went for eagle. Shot me up the leaderboard and I managed a few more birds on the way out for a solid 65. Another solid round on a very tough course, and unfamiliar one at that as it was only the second time I've played it.
Speaking of Kodiak Reserve, what did you think of the course? Kodiak Reserve is an extreme adventure. There are many chances to practice your lag putts out there! Trying to find safe areas to land approach shots was tough and it became more of a game of capitalizing on the few putts inside 20 feet. The course is a real beauty but man, it's a tough track. Hats off to all golfers who managed to get around in one piece!
How did you fare on the leaderboard? Who were you trying to beat? Leaderboard reveal in approx five hours from this post. I'm hoping for the best - maybe on top, maybe a shot back. It'll be interesting to see what everyone does behind me. It's definitely a fight to the finish now.
