It's as much an issue with the game as it is with the courses. The fact that it is so easy to play the flop shot from around the green means you are often better off missing the greens on courses with firm and/or severely sloped greens as you have more chance of getting down in two, or even holing out, with a chip or flop than you do when leaving yourself a difficult putt.
I've played The Golf Club more than every other game combined over the last year but I really wish HB would do something about the flop shot (and the ridiculous lofting issue as Congo said above).

62-63-60-63 for -40 Missed a few makeable putts as per usual but had 3 unlikely hole outs to make up for it. Overall pretty happy, and really enjoyed the course. Impressive score!! Very well played!!

Thanks chaps.
Certainly not counting my chickens, still plenty of top players in this field who could beat my score

last two pin sets were medium firmness this week. Won't be medium firmness every week on tour. Won't be firm every week on tour. Not much more I can say on the matter. Nothing too say. Not going to please everyone. Last week people complain too easy, this week people complain too hard/unfair. I personally preferred this style of course, but may be in the minority, but also enjoy the medium firmness as well. You guys are doing a great job, a real nice mix of courses this season.

Thanks chaps. Certainly not counting my chickens, still plenty of top players in this field who could beat my score Great playing Jack. Probably going to be one or 2 guys that end up within a couple shots, just depends on which side of -40 they're on. Either way you gave yourself a great chance to win. I finished -28 for the week, 2 four putts from inside 30 feet will certainly cost me some serious positioning, but wouldn't have competed with what you put up regardless.

I thought this course was medium firmness? Shows how knackered I was when I played it haha. Missed cut city.

For some reason I thought playing after a few drinks would be a good idea... 77-67 shows otherwise. Whoops.

Great course! I didn't play well in first two rounds but very nice layout where it felt like most shots "meant something" and plenty of places to differentiate the scores.
-40 is very impressive on this layout.

If it is not gonna be the winning score I will be very very surprised. You played a stunning series of rounds mate! Congrats As for myself I'm sitting @ -11 after 2 (66, 67). Felt like I played 'OK' overall but I couldn't avoid two bogeys both in 1st and 2nd round after very nice starts...what a shame

My two cents are that if you are going to have pins tucked like they were, then firmness of the green should not be jacked up. If it is going to be firm and fast make the pins a bit more accessible. If it's firm and fast then you still won't be able to pin hunt. The course is a beautiful course, and it is very well made, but my main gripe is about approach shots. If you are going to give someone a risk reward option off the tee, and said player executes the risk shot well, don't punish them by creating another risk shot, i.e. carrying water off the tee or carrying the further fairway of a split fairway only to be handcuffed behind a tree. There were a handful of these instances in the first two rounds.

Didn't mind the course, hated the hard greens. Not golf in my opinion. I am in the middle of my second round, and will finish, but my heart is not in it. I refuse to play the 'loft game' and will problably withdraw from any future Euro events that have these conditions. I had to get that off my chest. Love the tours and have been here since day one but with these conditions, the game is losing its luster for me. Part of it is HB's fault for having a game that irons can be lofted up to such ridiculous yardages. Blast away!
Congrats to all who are playing well and to those who enjoy playing these conditions. Rant over.

The game should allow you to stop a well struck 7/8 iron relatively quickly, even in firm conditions. It doesn't, and instead forces you to "loft up" a 3/4 iron to execute the shot you should be able to execute with the 7/8 iron.
Totally unrealistic of course, but then so is hitting every drive right down the middle and hitting a perfect flop shot to 3 ft whenever you miss a green.
Many of us wish the game was harder/different, but in the meantime i won't feel bad about utilising its mechanics to try and compete

Jack, I agree with you whole heartedly about a well struck 7/8 iron should check up. My rant was not against the players, but where we have come to try to make the game playable so that everyone doesn't make a birdie every time out.
As a real golfer with a 7HC, I just don't get the enjoyment of seeing an iron land at the front of the green and pick up speed until it is off the back. The game is doomed unless that aspect is fixed.
Maybe we need a 'super tour" for the guys who need these conditions to not shoot 55 every time out. Us mere mortals would be a lot happier with at least 'medium conditions' most weeks. I want to see the tours continue on forever but I am sensing a growing frustration with a lot of players.
Sorry, this is not a thread for this post! Will stop now!

From what i read, just as many of the "mere mortals" want tougher conditions every now and again so they don't have to shoot -60 to contend.
