Played this last week and shot -8, playing one of my best rounds ever. Really liked the course and yes, I chipped in twice, flopped in once and holed my PW on #1 for eagle! I'm on the Euro tour but tempted to cross over and play. However, if the wind blows hard, look out!

Well we may as well start practicing these as this is the setup for next weeks PGA.
All I can say is you better have your A game just to shoot even par.
I'm not complaining, quite the opposite actually. However with that said, I would like to point out all the chatter regarding ball squirt and making the game more difficult etc. Here is a classic example of the work that can be accomplished by designers that even using short holes, easy breaking greens, conditions of medium firmness and the course is still extremely difficult. I have said before, and it fell on deaf ears, this game does need ball squirts to make it more difficult. This game provides the opportunity to design the degree of difficulty into a course.
I have said it before and will say it again, it's not the game that is easy, it's the courses that are easy. And this course highlights that. This is a brilliant piece of work, I thank the designer, and I thank the TGCT for bringing this course to the tour.
I just think about how much more fun the game would be with more courses like this and if the ball squirts were gone. Appreciate the kind words, BoomBoom. I'm sure this is going to be a decisive course for everyone playing. All I can say is I drew on all my experience playing professional golf for years to design it - and try to give you guys the feel of what it's like in real tournament golf to play a tough layout. At the top levels, it's really not about how well you execute a shot but how you plan your round out. In order to hit the fairway/green, you will have to judge - wind/lie/elevation/spin/slope. And if you decide to take an aggressive line at a pin, you will need a bit of luck as well. Hopefully it will make some guys think about where they want to putt from, and how far from the pins they should play their approaches. Good luck this week to all! Don't get me wrong, this is a nice course, I do like it and I understand how you were trying to go about designing it but it doesn't give me the feel of what it's like to play a tough setup in real tournament golf at all. It really isn't your doing or the course, it's just that it's too easy to chip in this game. This A/B setups(Haven't played C/D yet) had me thinking more times, "where do I want to chip from?" not "where do I want to putt from?". I'd look at a lot of the holes and think to myself "OK, I can take the shot safe to the middle of the green, use a little slope and leave myself with a 20ft putt with some break. Orrrr I can aim straight at the hole, maybe get lucky and have it go in and even if it doesn't go in I have a 4y chip from the rough that's probably easier to make than that 20ft putt". At the very least even if I miss the chip I feel like I have a better chance of leaving the par putt with-in tap in range whereas that 20-footer could be real easy to miss by 5ft. I had 6 chip-ins on the B setup lol. That just doesn't seem right to me.

Been talking about this course in the Community Chat on PS4 a little. Definitely bring your A game and get some practice in. Also pray for low winds. If we see double digits here, it could get ugly.

This is definitely a difficult course and as I said the scores will be much lower. Course management is more important than anything we have played in a long time. I'm not a fan of having to play for fringes even though I'm a damn good chipper. I will be crossing over to the Euro this week because I absolutely love Timberlake when I was playing it in practice with some friends. I said I'd jump over and play it with them when it came up.
I wish you all the best of luck on this course. I'm sure Tyler Duke will manage a -40 on it.

And driver won't always be the best option off the tee.

Some of the pin placements were quite... odd to say the least. I'm not sure changing the game to have a chance for birdie you gotta chip it in is "more realistic" golfing. I liked some of the choices off the tee and think it will really be interesting in high winds with the randomness of squirt involved. The first 7 holes, I think we hit 2 greens in regulation, not for the lack of trying. I continued playing and the course evens out a lot more on the back nine. I have never been a fan of putting a 4 foot putt and having it run 40 feet past the hole.

Interesting read. I have not been here for a terribly long time but I have noticed the PGA and Euro tour caliber of player has changed from top to bottom. No offense but there were a lot of players on these top 2 tours that had no business being there. I think the course difficulty can be upped significantly on those tours with very little griping now as the players will appreciate the challenge and not feel like they must birdie every hole.
The problem with courses for these tours being birdie fests is that it is very frustrating watching the ball go way way off line on those few holes and taking you out of the game completely. We all know by now that these squirts don't happen to everyone all the time, but happen to everyone randomly (maybe). I say maybe because as far as I'm concerned there could be an unknown by most formula or method to get those clean rounds more often that is not well known. i.e. Before I tee off on a par 3 I go to my range and hit till it squirts then go back and tee off the par 3. not saying this works or even has been tested by me, but the point I'm making is there might be a system to minimize the squirts for your round. Who knows, sure as crap I know I don't, but I do know this much. They happen, they don't happen all the time, and some rounds are clean, some are not.
We can all play a clean round and go low, or play the opposite with a dirty round of random BS. It brings in to much luck. While luck is golf and the age old saying of the more I practice the luckier I get stands here as well to some extent, the luck does not come as much from bounces or breaks, but comes from the ball not squirting 20 yards off line.
So as long as the game plays the way it is now, the better for these 2 top tours should have the most difficult courses with birdies being rare and par being the score to shoot for. The winner coming from the better player that tournament, that simple. The cream will still rise, so they should, but everyone will have the same opportunity to be the cream themselves.
Finally I'm not even sure why they have random and little penalty for missing all in the same game. It makes no sense to me. Just up the penalty for missing, make the feedback clearer and more accurate and be done with the random crap.
This is where that perfect golf is heading, although it's crap now visually and playability, it's clear the direction they are heading and will be the top game once it's all done. When the ball squirts, you know clearly where you went wrong.
Just my 2 cents, if it's even worth that much.
Don't take this as offensive Boomboom, just putting in my two cents as well. So you are saying mid-round, you exit out, and hit a bunch of "practice" shots, then jump back in? I know that there is no way of enforcing this, but I feel this shouldn't be allowed. It's almost like playing a real round and carrying around a bucket of balls to practice with. I know it's not REALLY like that, but it just seems a bit..cheesy to me. I may be the only one that thinks this. I must have the "ball-squirt lite" version of TGC, because I'm not seeing the level of ball squirt that you guys are seeing. Whenever I am offline it is because of the lie or my swing plane..it makes sense...maybe once every 7-8 rounds I get a shot where I think "why did it do that"? Or maybe I'm just not good enough to notice I hear math might be your strong suit, but please read" (i.e. Before I tee off on a par 3 I go to my range and hit till it squirts then go back and tee off the par 3. not saying this works or even has been tested by me). It was being stated as an example and only example and not based on anything actual.
Never would of thought there were still people around denying it's existence either.

Anthony has already acknowledged it's existence - and justification for it being in the game. It is indeed fact, not fiction.

Ah. You really made it sound like it was YOU that was doing it, by using "I" in your example. Sorry for misinterpreting. I'm not denying ball squirt exists, I'm just saying I don't get it as much as most people seem to and all the complaining is starting to get to me a bit. Implying that I'm not that great a reader is a bit low, but whatever.

So what if the ball squirts slightly from time to time? We don't get mud balls, bare lies, it doesn't matter if it's on an upslope or downslope, sudden gusts of winds, flops are a piece of piss and we can drive it much straighter than the pros. Moan moan moan, groan groan groan. Love you all x

Truthfully it only bugs me some days more than others, today being one of those days. Maybe I should play easier courses and not Cuyahoga over and over again while I still have hair.

Moan moan moan, groan groan groan. Love you all x The main problem with it, for me, is its a videogame. Call it a simulation all you like, but at its core, it is a videogame. Again though, I'm one who moans about squirts when they negatively affect me (aiming right off the tee, hit the ball dead straight, nah pal you're going way left immediately etc), so it isn't a massive issue, just a pain in a tournament when you're on a good round and you end up screwed due to it. I adore the game, but ball squirts (along with the dreaded ghost hole) are one of its biggest faults. I, in general, dislike real, actual golf (can't play it due to disability anyway), I just want to get out there and see the ball go where I expect it to using videogame mechanics. Yes, Rory would give me that but its a joke of a videogame, I'm not expecting to hit -25 every round, but a good, solid -6 with the ball doing what I expected is far more satisfying than a -3 due to the ball deciding its going to do its own thing at times. But then that's the problem with videogames, you're never going to please everyone with every aspect.

Concerning ball squirts, it is obvious that it happens to all platforms and everyone should be getting them. I am interested in how some people seem to be less effected than others. A ball squirt off a drive is easily countered by playing 1/2 ball positioning on the fairway and 1/2 fade/draw. If there is squirt ... most of the times you are still going to end up in the fairway, albeit not necessarily down the center. Approach shots is a whole different story. Even using the formula I just stated, the +/- of side to side yardage can still be 5-15 yards and yet you have people who their longest made putt is 10 feet and yet they have birdied 12-15 holes for four solid rounds. The law of averages says that shouldn't happen, but meh, what are you going to do. Maybe these folks know something that we don't and can better counter squirt than I. Good on them I say so long as it is legal.
