Just played my 4 rounds early, as I usually do for a tournament.
I have to say, sadly, this is/was the most disappointing tournament of the year so far. For something that I was looking forward to as one of, if not THE highlight of the year, "Plan C" just wasn't good enough.
I know it's not really any fault of TGCT, as you guys didn't know the original course choices wouldn't work while we were in-between patches. But this course was a bad choice IMO.
No enjoyment, nothing like the sort of test you'd get on a "British" Open course.
Just did nothing for me - and I got fed up with it 2 rounds in.
I think the ball was dropped bigtime for The Open, whoever's fault it was. I hope we never get a rushed "Plan C" again, although I appreciate the work that goes into it all.
I hope others enjoy it, and good luck to all participants, but it left me feeling a bit sad.

i enjoyed 3 rounds of it, the day one round was bad though, fast and firm did not suit the design of the course, the fairways nor the greens. the only greens that would hold on the longer approach shots on day 1 was the ones with a tier you could land the lower tier and let the hump slow you down. most of these greens were guarded by frontside bunkers so there was not bump and run.
the other 3 rounds were fine imo.

Some fairways are abit harsh especially with certain winds, couple of dodgy pins and couple of holes i couldnt even reach especially in round 2 playing in 14mph in my face!(yes it was my choice, too impatient to wind wait). Overall thought the course was a decent challenge i will stick by my first thoughts and say it was a good replacement, i no there will be alot that dont agree tho and il admit myself im glad to be finished lol

I havent played yet but i am disappounted. There are a few really.goods links recreations out there; birkdale, troon, st andrews. Uni. Links looks great but its not links nowhere near. Any true links on the course database didnt seem to get a look in. I appreciate the american influence of the tgc and tgctours but like it or not british links have always set the standard for great course design.

Don't think that Yeltzman submits to TGCT, so Troon and Muirfield not available. Also no real name courses on TGCT...
University links is a really good course and looks stunning. The open pin set does feel a bit rushed and a few too many dodgy pins. But considering the time the designer had to get it ready it's a very good effort. Day 2 is the biggest let down for me as the pins are just too accessible for the reduced firmness. And - the course does not feel like a British links one bit, and that is not to be expected when its inspired by Chambers bay.
To me the mistake made here was to "waste" the course that really should have hosted the Open on a minor Euro event a couple months back. Swindon Downs - open edition plays like a true links and provides a complete test of golf. It's the best realistic links in game (best links all categories is still the Legacy). A bit ironic that it was even brought back for the qualifying, otherwise we might have been playing it now...
Either way its unfortunate, and the team did what they could given the circumstances. We still have a tournament at a good course, and the sun should hopefully rise tomorrow as well regardless.

Like it was mentioned above, Yeltzman doesn't submit his courses here so we can't use them. Univerisity Links was designed by a Euro based player.

Needs to be re-named then? Real course OK, real name not OK I think is the policy.

Well I am way down on the CC-D tours.. Really been trying to get better each week... I always like to see how I would do on a practice round on the course the PGA and Euro folks are playing
Just played day one here at University Links.. FWIW I loved it... Was even -2 at the turn then had a couple issues on the back side, and had a chance at par for the round on the final hole and missed a 15 footer by a couple inches.. +1 for the round.. Not bad for a CC-D Hack like me...
Sorry if I butted in where I don't belong ahead of time.. back to my dungeon Good luck to the Open participants..

FYI, we can use real name courses - not an issue for us.

I think people are being a bit harsh saying it's not a real links course. It doesn't quite play exactly like one, but to be fair, a real links setup would probably be quite easy on this game. Fairway have to be tightened and landing spots need to be smaller to make it a challenge at all. Some areas are definitely lacking in terms of links feel, but it has a very nice look that could certainly be thought of as links style, and I think it's a beautiful looking track. I don't know what option would've been better at this point. I enjoy playing it a lot. As for St. Andrews, none of them are even close to being worthy of holding a TGCT tournament, and I've played a few of them. The designer didn't even come close to putting in enough time to make a recreation on this game. It would've been a real shame if we played one of those. Our standards are too high after what we've gotten from CLV and Craig.
