Still waiting on the next Mr Clean course, hopefully you still enjoy designing as I had a feeling you're next one was going to be a banger. Yes broski. It's gonna be just like all my other ones. Same bunkering, same fairway sculpting, same green complexes... Definitely same lighting.. I'm certainly waiting for your next as well. Cheers

I caught up on the stream to see what the hub bub was and yes without the context of the Gerald Epee I would be confused what the troll talk is. But after the first hole when they realize it's not Wayne is really fair with his critique and cators to the designer with a fair amoutn of caviots to be understaning and respectful. As someone in a design field IRL for my career, you have to know how to take criticism as a form learning to get better. There is an issue of people coming in without that knowledge and expecting everyone to like their stuff and think it's great. But if you are submitting your work to a judging platform you are going to get critiqued. Another thing as someone designing you have to do is know people will have diferent opinions and learn to listen to those opinions diessect them and decide which ones to take to heart and which ones to forget (Wayne gets almost ill when playing a geometric course, if I make one and he gets pissy about it I choose to ignore those comments because that's all his personal preference). If someone has a super negative reaction take a moment and listen to what gives them it and why, maybe it's completely their opinion and you can ignore it, or maybe there is a viable reason and it's something you can choose to try and do better next time. That's up to YOU as the designer, NOT the person reviewing. Basically we can't change who we are as a community that critiques courses designed because people don't know how to take critiques. That's on them to learn that or stop submitting. That may sound elitest to some but it's just how life is. A world without personal growth and quality control is not a world I want to be in. Thanks, Tyson. To be fair, there is some hyperbole to the geometric reactions, not unlike the biarritz reactions :-)

It’s a shame we lost a member over this. I do understand his point of view. The dude rode a rollercoaster of emotions. Poured 100+ hours into a course to get tour worthy. Seen it posted TW. Then downgraded to Approved.
Amiobi does a great job in his streams and offers quite useful feedback. I’ve been butt hurt over comments in there too, but used it as a learning moment and applied the criticisms to my next designs to improve.
I also keep in perspective it’s a video game.

If you're going to publish and promote a course, you have to be prepared for people to not like it and criticize it. That's part of the deal. If you take those criticisms in stride, ask intelligent questions, and keep improving with every publish, this can be the most helpful and encouraging community. If you get butthurt the second someone says something about your course you disagree with and start lashing out and threatening to quit, you get responses in kind. There is always another option, which is just to build courses you like and want to play and keep them to yourself. No one is forcing you to put a course out into the world for public consumption.
There are so many top designers here who started out publishing stuff that makes for good chum, who are now winning contests and tutoring others. It just takes some humility and persistence. The other option is to take your ball and go home. Good riddance.

We have to start just promoting the line: “Make a better course next time.” Just learn more about the designer and improve if you want your course to get the attention.

Jimbo pm'd me a slightly harsher criticism of my stream than what he posted in his thread and I basically told him what you wrote above, also saying that when one streams, one also opens themselves up to critcism - it's part of the deal. And I'd rather have people criticize my stream than just not watch it, just as I would rather someone criticize a course I designed (LOL) than just not play it.

The other option is to take your ball and go home. Good riddance. Going on a bit of a tangent, but I feel the thread might serve a purpose, so... I've told this story a ton, but I recall my first ever playthroughs on stream, particularly the CC contest one from reebdoog way back when. That feedback was invaluable for helping me spot what I (and others) could do better, so I ended up watching every one of those playthroughs (some twice) and then those that mayday_golf83 had done for the Major contest. If you are thin-skinned and think your course is great and won't hear criticism, you will never improve. Every stream I watch or course I play (Yuck Club excepted), I take something from, both good and bad. Every one of my courses has had playthroughs where people have seen stuff I haven't or critiqued something I felt was fair. The difference in mindset between 'I want people to tell me my course is good so I can keep doing the same thing' and 'I want people to tell me what they really think of my course so I can work on it to get better' is the single biggest barrier. I don't think it's a surprise that lots of us who do have that mindset come from architecture, teaching etc where honest self-appraisal is drummed into you.
