I think cut will be around -12 at most so you'll be fine. Looking at the first scores submitted, I'd say it's gonna be around -10... if at all. -8/-9 looks more realistic (to me). But we will see... Had a few practice rounds, and my personal best was -9. But also had rounds with only -3. Especially the Par3's on this course can knock your lights out/destroy your score. Have to be very, very careful on those...

What a difference a round makes. Started off in my ongoing funk that I seem to be stuck in, bogeyed the first hole to kick it off. Then went on to a string of unremarkable pars. Then I made a couple of birdies, then a couple of bogeys, and finally settled down and managed to not give away the birdies I battled for and carded a 68. With all of the lesson fresh ibn my mind from my 1st round, I proceeded immediately on to round nbr 2. If I wouldn't be damned, I started off with another bogey, with frustration in mind, I almost decided to call it a night, but said eff it and figured I wouldn't be making the cut anyway and decided to just try and rip thru round 2. Boy am I glad I did. I put on what i feel to my best tournament round to date, and got on the birdie train, and using all of my gleaned knowledge, managed to avoid any mistakes, sunk all of my makeable putts and even a couple that weren't really within my range, and smartly lagged the rest for a bunch of easy 2 putt pars, ending in a final score of 63. Extremely satisfied with myself, and know that I've easily clinched a spot for the weekend. If I manage to string together a couple more good ones, I may threaten the top 20.

I played a handful of practice rounds here and I think the best I could manage was a -2, with several over par rounds as well.
Great time to find my form. Got really lucky at the uphill Par 4 that you can drive in one through the trees on the left. Had about an 8mph wind at my back and hit a 3 wood pretty badly. Thought I was going to lose it down a steep drop, but it somehow missed the trees and ended up on the edge of the fringe leaving a 7yd chip in for an eagle. Turning point for the round, could easily have been disastrous. Won't be trying driving that one again this week.
-9 for Round 1, tied 2nd at one point. Best start to a tourney all year for me, now just got to keep the pace...

I will be sweating on the cut at -10 for my first 2 rounds but looking at the scoring so far actually think it will be ok. Did better in my final two rounds and ended -24. -6 per round is reasonable around here, but i was hoping for better after some good practice just before i started. 17 caught me out twice, got up and down once but made a 5 the other time Agree about the slow greens, after recent events it was like putting through treacle in comparison Wasn't aware of the problem with 17rh until tournament rounds where I shot a 4 over on one of the rounds. . Front hole location and that silly drop off is the only black mark on an otherwise great course. I was destined to miss the cut anyway this week. -4 after 2 rounds 17th and that cliff side gave me a triple in third round dropping me out of contention. Was sitting two back of PS4 lead at the time.... But I disagree with your thoughts on the hole. Its genius. So tempting to try to fade one in there as the option is a 40-50 foot putt. But you are usually in between clubs, and any power loss or miscalculation sends you off the cliff and going off has real consequences.... Even a good shot needs a lot of luck to get close. The play is to the left for a par. Had three very different experiences on the hole. First round drained a 43 footer for birdie from left side of green. 2d round I stuck the tee shot to 12 feet but lipped the putt (one of those that mysteriously jumped over the right center of hole) and then the blow up in the third round. Hopefully no drama in round four.... Its a great 17th. What do you do coming down the stretch needing a birdie? 18 is good as well with the outside chance of eagle. This course grows on me for every round I play. Maybe a tad bit easy, but still not a lot of insta-birdies.

The drop off is a great idea. It's just too deep with too much of a steep grade. There's a hole on Crawford mines (can't remember which) that's a perfect execution of this. You are punished for going short but you can at least get back on the green from the drop off area.

I mnaged it on one occasion. The other time i tried once, failed and then decided to play out sideways. Of course, if we had the ability to take a drop this discussion wouldn't be happening

Designer's note: The 17th hole.I hear lots of complaints on not being able to get up out of the cliff in front of the green. You cannot. You hit a bad shot. You're not automatically given the opportunity, to chip up on the green and possibly hole out for birdie. By design. Your options; 1) aim to the left, for the less steep bank angle, up to the far side of the green (it was extended out way left just for this reason). Hope for a long putt, or chip in for par. 2) Aim almost 90 degrees to the left (the slope is very manageable) and there is FAIRWAY for a landing zone ... thus leaving you a chip/flop up near (or, in the cup for par) the pin for boogie. If you take more than a double here ... its your own fault. Sorry, golf has penalties for risk taking ... don't always expect to get a birdie for a bad shot, followed up with a lucky one. Hope the rest of the course is giving you pro's a fit as well ... Oh ... the 15th hole, two choices ... hit a monster drive or, take less club and be safe.

This is why I haven't dared attacking the pin on this hole. Although I hit a bad shot in round 2 and barely stayed up on top.

That's because it's a sucker-pin placement . . . The safest shot is the middle and let the slope work ball back towards the pin.

Just a suggestion, but maybe as the designer of the course, you could hold off on commenting on methods of playing the holes for the active ongoing tournament, until after said tournament?
For nothing else then out of respect for the people that did their homework and played your course a few times to try to figure it out on their own?

I managed an epic par save on this 17th hole, came up short and pulled a miracle flop and sunk my putt. Was amazed with myself after staring at least a double!

Really liked this course. Managed to get one quick practice round, and decided to play really conservatively for once. Seems like it was the way to tackle this course as I suddenly found myself sitting in shared second at PS4 after four rounds with -34. Hardly played TGC at all over the last couple of weeks, so was really surprising to see those puts drop.
