Lazy River is an experimental course that features an ultra compact reversible style routing that contains only 4 fairways and 4 greens. Set deep in an old pine grove, this course is built along the banks of a slow meandering river far from civilization. Kept secret from the public, the only way to find it is to pay a guide to bring you here. No one knows why it was built but rumor has it that an eccentric billionaire bought this massive section of wilderness and made the course to have an occasional golf getaway with his friends. However you find yourself here, you will be treated to an unforgettable golfing experience that tests your course management, creativity, and ground game.
The front 9 of this course was ported from TGC 2019 but had designed the river to make a back nine eventually. The routing on this course was really complicated to figure out and took many tweaks to get each hole to play in a unique way. Most landing zones are in play from multiple directions and the hazard placement had to be carefully considered as well. The surfacing is pretty interesting as well which creates quite a bit of randomness to how the ball bounces and rolls at the edges of the greens/fairways with the light rough keeping the consequences fairly low if the ball rolls off the green/fairway. My two favourite aspects of this design is how much freedom I had when placing the pin locations. These overlap onto other parts of the green quite frequently, making each pin set play very differently. The other being the "torn" bunker style. This was kind of ruined by the new style of boreal bunker lips in 2K21 but still looks and plays pretty good. Despite it being a really weird style of golf course, I do think that this plays quite "normal" compared to some of my other works. I'm glad I could finally finish this project and I hope you all enjoy it.
