Hi everyone! Breakers Bluff is now open! 6500yds from the tips 6012yds from the forward tees Par 69 5 par 3s 11 par 4s 2 par 5s Facilities - Public Clubhouse, Pepperdine University Team Clubhouse and training center, double-sided driving range, a half way house and hiking trails. Here is the full write up - Build Story
SUMMARYMy idea was to create a realistic course for Pepperdine's team (hence the name) also to serve as Malibu's only course IRL (I know there have been a few Malibu courses created in game) What was going to be a Lidar realistic/fictional build turned into a completely fictional build based off real life as I could not get Lidar to work. So I tried to match the land as best as I could and work from there. The mountain ridge in reality could (in my head) have ~74 usable acres if graded, but I expanded it to ~100 acres. I was going to stick with 9 holes which quickly turned into 12, then 16, then I just had to jam in all 18. Let me know what you think!

Just played a round here...and all I can say is, "wow". Absolutely loved it. Loved the course, the clubhouse, the campus. Wish they let us console users have free cam because I wanted to go fly around and take a look at everything! The opening hole is a great start to the course...loved the school buildings, sports fields, etc. to the left. Although the view is not for the faint of heart or those afraid of heights!
I really liked that the elevation added to the challenge, and definitely made the course play longer than the 6500 yards that are shown on the scorecard. I managed a 5-under 64, using default conditions, the back tees, and pin set 1. Just a little breeze coming off the ocean.
A fun, exciting round, a 5-star favorite, and I'll be back for another tee time very soon. Great job!

Really solid course you’ve got here. The slopes on 16 green will get a few balls stuck in between them but other than that you’ve done a good job. This is a technical thing...make sure to use enough spline points on your fairways and then choose straighten spline so that you have cleaner edges (see below pictures for reference). Finally, I hope you submit this to the TGCT database soon!

Awesome. When I saw the WIP the other day, I knew this would be at the top of my list. Can't wait to give it a play in the coming days.

I wish HB left the flyovers in and yes, a free cam would be awesome hopefully they add it for the next game. I sort of designed it with a "Northeastern" wind, or west in real life but any condition hopefully should work...? Thanks again and see you around!

Both of the things you mentioned were intentional and maybe I was reaching. On 16, I knew I was taking a risk but was going for a diagonal biarritz if you will (or "butt cheek" green as I call it) the dip being a drainage point and collection area but might not have worked. The jagged edges was also a style I was going for having the general shapes of the fairway were defined but the edges being "undefined." But yeah, not sure if that worked.

But yeah, not sure if that worked. think of a real course...nobody is going to mow the edge of a fairway in a random zig zag pattern unless the mower is about 14 beers in when he climbs on his Toro. If you wanted to build a biarritz, you would need about 8-10y of space in between. Also, the purpose of a Biarritz is to ask for a run up shot to pins that are beyond the swale. When you turn the valley 45* to the tee box, you’re no longer running balls through it because the slope will curve rolling shots back into the bowl...so instead you’re just playing to keep your tee shot out of a giant central hazard in the middle of the green.

Highly renowned Rustic Canyon (my favorite course that I've played and the course I draw the most inspiration from) has pretty "undefined" fairway edges... take a look on google maps. I know that doesn't mean it's going to translate well into the game but I went for it and maybe it didn't work. Maybe I'll try something different next time. For the #16th, let me be more clear. The look is more of a diagonal biarritz but in terms of how I wanted it to play... was to encourage a fade to the preferred side of the swale so you could run it back to the pins with the fade if you stay on the correct side. So yes, it basically is a hazard in the middle of the green which I will reference one of the most famous par 3s in the world, Riviera #6 which is exactly that. A hazard in the middle of the green.

This course was recommended to me on stream tonight by jkenyon. We played an alt-shot match here and really enjoyed it. Congrats on the design, very well done!

I really enjoyed my round and there is so much good in this design.
I really liked the hole designs and they were all fair holes, approaches, etc.
The one thing that stuck out was due to the sparse vegetation, etc there were no holes that really stuck out to me. It seemed like I was playing the same holes, although differing lengths. With the extensive town and building work below the course, it seemed that integrating the two more would make holes pop even more. Also, due to the elevation differences there were only a few times that the scenery changed, so it became monotonous.
The round was still fun and there were challenging holes to be sure.

Looks great, and it's a par 69 which for me is extremely good. People don't try courses with that par often and this looks really well done!

Thank you for putting in a round and thanks for your feedback. I definitely agree with you on the planting... A.) I'm lazy and don't like planting that much lol. and B.) I wanted to leave it looking as natural as possible as if you just laid a golf course on top without any "man-made" planting. I had concerns about the spacing of the plants looking non natural so I think you caught that, dang it lol. Here is a look at the actual mountain ridge from down below IRL... (it's greener than the time of year I have set for it - I'm addicted to the browned out look though...)

The par 69 just sort of happened that way as I was going along. I started out doing a 9 hole design which eventually turned into 18 which is why there are back to back par 3s at basically the same length... couldn't really avoid that once I made the decision to go all 18. Love how golf just sort of comes together when you don't expect it.
