Hi Everyone! - Breakers Bluff opens to the public next weekend!
PERSONAL INTRO
I'm happy to announce that I'm back designing having been completely out of the scene for about a year. I used to be on PS4 (Johnny46Ch1mp0 - with my old TGC account) and now I'm on PC as CaptainHook and wanted my name to match on here which is why I made a new account...
When I left the TGC scene last year, I had abandoned a build on TGC2019 (Prairie Hills GC & Municipal) that one day I'd like to go back and finish. But since, I had gotten a PC and caught the golf bug again. I bought 2k21 about 2 months ago and started this project... (which I'm posting on here now because I am basically done with the build. Just a few touch ups and checks and should be published by next weekend)
PROJECT IDEA
As I caught the golf bug, I started looking around for inspiration... Googlemaps and Youtube. I came across a couple of cool videos on college golf facilities and started doing some research. I looked up current top teams without their own golf course/facilities and found that Pepperdine was top of the list and if not mistaken have the ability to practice at Sherwood CC. Although that is an amazing course and facility, I couldn't help but think that is quite the drive for a home course (~30 min. from campus). As well as Malibu not having a golf course, private or public. I scanned around Pepperdine's campus with aerial and street view and noticed a mountain ridge directly to the west that could work. I had intended to use Lidar to get a maximum feel of realism. Which the ridge line, if flattened a bit, would fit about 9 holes (~74 usable acres). But was unable to get it to work and will figure it out eventually... lol. Since I had to freehand it, I decided to expand the top of the ridge to 150 usable acres with this idea in mind...
BUILD STORY
(Here is where fiction takes over)
Luxury home developing firm GSH (Gold Standard Homes) purchased 150 acres next to Pepperdine in a surprise move which is set to be the most expensive housing development in Los Angeles. People in the community were shocked as they thought that the majority were against the development and had been fighting it for years as well as having to get past California's strict development laws. Nevertheless, GSH came in and started their massive grading. Making the somewhat steep ridge line into more of a cascading plateau, or a bluff. The idea being to maximize housing development with most houses having a panoramic view of the ocean. The grading was near complete when GSH was caught in a tax evasion scheme which liquidated the company immediately and put an abrupt end to the housing development. No other development firm was able to take over and finish the project due to the high cost...
The community was angry to find out GSH had greased the pockets of city officials in order to get the development passed in the first place. The city had to make up for this tragedy by providing the land for the community. A vote was to be held to determine the future of the land.
The vote passed and the community had decided on an 18 hole golf course offering access to the public, discounted rates for students and Malibu residents, and free access for student athletes. Facilities include double sided driving range, putting green, public clubhouse as well as Pepperdine's team clubhouse, a halfway house, and hitting bays for top of the line skill development. Also public access to hiking trails.
-- I have been having trouble getting pictures up on here. Will get some up after this weekend. --
