Hey guys so I'm wanting to do a south carolina course where there is a beach and then as you move inland you play through some like inland marsh and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to get the look right. Anything I can do to the water to make it look less ocean and more marsh and swamp other then just long grass?

Working at 'sea level', flatten the ground just under your water, less than a foot or so. Works great for planting the cattail grasses without having to height adjust each one (clusters of them have decent height variation, too). If you have autogen rocks turned up, you'll have to clear a bunch of them that will appear in shallow water areas.

I am literally doing the same thing and trying to get the look right as well. Had started with the same process that BobalooNOLA suggested above.
Don't worry, no competition here - just wanting to create a fun experience, too. The more the merrier.
I see the bigger challenges as picking the right objects to fill the marsh areas to get a good look without running out of meter. I'm working into tree areas, too, so that should help.
It's a tough one - especially with flatter sightlines, too.
I have a WIP thread started if you're interested in taking a look. Will add to it periodically.

Yeah absolutely I'm new to the whole design thing so even if their were competition it wouldn't be much of one. That would be very helpful though thank you I would love to see what you got going on

As for water, if you use plant it out a lot using bushes buried with the tops just exposed that should give you a good feel

The default water seems to have a lot more movement to it than a placed water body, so you might try making the inland water just above sea level and using a placed water body to get the affect. I have no idea if that will make a difference, but thought I would offer that suggestion since I have noticed the two look a little different.
