Welcome to
R A N C H O A R R O Y O
After Hoi An Beach Club came out, myself, rjwils30 and b101 decided to do another plot swap, in which we traded plots that came with heavy restrictions as to how to build a golf course. Rob sent me this plot, inspired by Rustic Canyon, on October 3rd. Today is October 12th. The plot clicked with me so well that I managed to build this thing in 9 days. The main idea is that there is a network of deep wash canyons that run through the course, which flood during the rainy months. Thus, though some of the canyons are extremely wide and could accommodate some great holes, I couldn't put surfaces there. There were also jagged mountains I could not touch. I found a routing, surfaced it, consulted back and forth with Ben and Rob, and here we are. Hope you guys enjoy.

Bridge. 9 days is stupid fast. Edit post round: Loved it. Really fun layout and super creative around the restrictions. Such a fun way to build a course. I managed a -6 with a bogey, but there is a lot more out opportunities out there. For the routing nerds: My favorite hole was 11 because I am a sucker for the C&C boundary template. My favorite stretch though was 15-16-17 below, just really great work around the flooding canyons.

Great job sir! The routing and setting were well done. I really liked the choices for planting and textures.
Looks like you are doin' well with designing on the PC. Keep up the good work man!

Played a couple more rounds Thomas and really like what you did with this plot. Just a super fun course. Lots of cool hole concepts as well as some awesome siting of greens that provide some really great vantage points throughout the course. As always with your designs you holes present clear strategic options. Also think the planting although minimal was done very effectively. Also love the trestle bridges!
Hole by Hole:
1. Love starting out with this one. Great green site.
2. great feel off the tee on this one. also love the green complex and its proximity to the other green.
3. fun par 3
4.Really nice hole, I like the kicker mounds to the right of the green
5.such a good use of the land with this one. so many options off the tee.
6. love the approach over the corner of the mountain!
7. like the kicker slopes around the green
8.intersting concept with the hard line along the canyon. super scary line off the tee
9.Heroic approach! great view toward the trestle beyond.
10. super fun green
11. The desire to go down the fence line on this one is strong. I smoked mine OB.
12. Beautiful little hole. lots of fun pins. especially back left
13.love the blind tee shot over the scrub
14.great tee shot. Like how the back left pin requires a lay up to the left of the bunker complex
15. great minimalist green site. that slight tilt makes right pins tough to access from the right side of the FW
16. went for it off the tee, landed in the junk to the right of the green, left a tough shot coming back to the back pin. good stuff.
17.nice simple uncluttered par 3.
18. This one I still struggle with a bit. it works strategically, just lacks a bit of drama for an 18th hole.
All said, you did an awesome job with this plot in an insanely short period of time. Don't know how you did it.

Always felt funky but definitely a better finisher than 10.

I had an even par round on the course and enjoyed the challenge of it, especially the greens.

Difficulty: Master Tees: Black Pin Set: 4 Score: -1
Fun course with a nice backdrop. Hole 3 was one of my favorite looking holes, but the execution seemed off, especially on pin set 4. Being downhill quite a bit, I used a 4 iron, and hit the front of the green within five yards and it still rolled all the way through the green off the back. Not sure if there's even a way to keep it on the green there honestly. Still, it was an easy 10 yard chip to get my par, just thought it was something worth noting. Really liked the blind second shot on 6 and the approach using the ridge on the left to funnel it down next to the hole. Not a huge fan of the random bunker in the middle of the fairway, but that's just personal preference. One would have been fine, but I think you had them on three or four different holes. 16 green is crazy on pin 4 if you miss right. Impossible to keep it on the green coming from that side but that's good to know for future reference. Overall it was a fun course. Good stuff. Thanks.

Buddy, no offense but if you think centerline bunkers are "random" and seem so surprised by them, there is no way I'm gonna trust your opinion on golf course architecture or take your advice.

Random is probably the wrong word. You can call them strategic bunkers if you want, forcing you to go to one side or the other, or take a lesser club, whatever. I'm just personally not a fan, especially with how many times they were used.
I'm not giving you advice on anything. It's your course. I haven't made any courses so I'm 100% sure you know more about designing in these games than I do. I'm just letting you know my personal preference and experience with the course. Sorry if it offended you lol
