Yeah I agree with everything that’s been said here.
Just want to make it clear that I do not endorse people spending very little in the designer on a Lidar course- Yes I do want more content, but not if all the new courses are poorly made. So I was just saying that I’d rather have people spend their precious time making a great new course rather than remaking another course.
Poorly made Lidar courses are just like auto gens in a way and it’s disappointing when the OSM and preparation is done so well but when it gets to the designer no time is put in towards proper planting and polishing.

I agree with you completely. Try out my beta release of Crooked Stick GC (CSCG2018LIDAR beta) and see if I just threw that together.

Biggest problem i would say doing a LIDAR version of Oak Hill would be doing the water which run's through the whole course LIDAR and how the water is generated in tgc brand not a great match i reckon.Shame won't get to play your augusta.really looking forward to freindbombers pebble beach because the LIDAR version of the 8th which used the plot not the course was outstanding best LIDAR hole i have played. Yes, water is a big problem for all recreations. I have made a statement over at the HB forum on this. But the biggest problem with water is like hole 14th on Harbour Town where the water is supposed to be right next to the fringe. So if I understand you correctly; you don't have any lidar data on Oak Hill, but are making and have a struggle on the greens with the designer tools? My point is that good lidar data will give you the accurate green slopes and undulations - to do this with the tools at that Level of accuracy is imho impossible. Well, what happens to Augusta remains to be seen - I don't think HB's censoring and later no comment on it is taken well in the community. As for now, you must name the course on some other manner than the real name (ie. Agusta National or something).

As I see it - mapping out a course in OSM is done quickly compared to the time required to have the course look good in the game. I do not spend much time mapping out a course in OSM. I see there is plenty of competitions in making fantasy courses - so perhaps if this site had competitions in making real recreations (RCR) - the overall quality would improve.

I would say that Torrey Pines definitely needs a remake, but the Spyglass we have currently is actually pretty good and doesn't need to be remade any time soon. I really think it would be awesome to make Lidar versions of these courses, but I think are many other courses, including a few on the PGA Tour, that don't even have an RCR in tgc and should be made before these other ones are recreated. So yes, these courses should be remade, but I would defer to making other "not-made-yet" courses before remaking those. In terms of these PGA Tour courses not yet made, I think the most important missing ones not being worked on are Riviera CC (A lidar version was made recently but the planting and mapping were not done too well), Trinity Forest (which I'm currently mapping in OSM), Muirfield Village (it's being renovated next year so it may not be worth it currently), Sedgefield CC, TPC River Highlands, and the Old White TPC. Yes, not everyone is going to want to work on all these courses, but I would love eventually for almost every course on the PGA Tour to have a course made in TGC. I'm willing to map all of these courses in OSM and then give it up to the community for anyone to make them, since I don't have tgc on pc and can't do LiDAR courses. So hopefully that will make the process just a little easier. But basically yes I'd love for those courses to be remade with LiDAR, however I'd rather have people spend time on making new ones. Nonetheless if someone is really passionate about doing a LiDAR version for these courses and also really wants to spend time on it, go for it! I'd still be super excited and appreciative no doubt! I see that you’re mapping out Trinity Forest. I’m really interested in doing this course eventually but the problem right now is that the only available lidar data predates the actual course, so there’s no point in doing it. Apparently there is new lidar data being gathered for Dallas County but I don’t know when it’s going to be published. I’ll try to keep an eye out for it while I’m working on Austin Country Club.

Yeah I saw there was 2019 Dallas Lidar coming out so I’m doing the mapping in preparation. Love that course it’s truly unlike any other tour venue.

Just an update on these three courses you suggested for Lidar: Sedgefield CC - Lidar data is unclassified so for me that is a no-go TPC River Highlands - L2 Lidar data. Somebody has already mapped out the course in OSM and it seems up to date except for a couple of bunkers; also it seems to be pretty well aligned with the lidar terrain. I have made a course file for it; if somebody is already working on it please let me know. I might do it if nobody is. TPC Old White - L2 Lidar data. Someone has drawn out one hole and a few features in OSM. as above I have generated a course file, but if I was going to make the course I would finish the OSM mapping. Hope this info is useful. I am also open to suggestions about other courses which the tours might be interested in.

Thanks for the update, I appreciate your help!
I spent some time cleaning up some of the TPC River Highlands mapping in OSM, should be good to go now if you or anyone else wants to pull it into the designer!

Chadgolf's program shows it as "unclassified" and won't run. I think unclassified means the data has not been refined to separate terrain data points from things that might be trees or buildings or other non-land items. See this link for an explanation tgctours.proboards.com/thread/18201/sorry-lidar-data-classified. As for River Highlands, I have brought it down into a plot and am thinking about working on it, but unlike Crooked Stick which I have a lot of knowledge of, I know nothing about River Highlands and have to investigate how many pictures or information is available to allow a good recreation.

A quick answer: yes, if there are good lidar data. Lidar data will make the elevations and slopes more accurate - combined with accurate planting etc will make for a more realistic course. I think if you have played Hazeltine national LIDAR and non lidar that point is not always right.Just my opinion its only the same as using the google earth data points and if you take months on it you get the same results, also helps when you use the official players guide from the Ryder cup as well and researching the course well for changes. Intresting on the 16th the water slopes from the 11th tee right down to payne stewarts bridge (don't think its there on LIDAR course) it can't be done correct how the water is generated on TGC 2019.Of course some LIDAR designers do take there time and they are better versions but far too many just naming a course and moving on.PS a LIDAR version of SPYGLASS would be so much better but since they changed the delta theme don't think it will ever look right. How did you manage to get this view of the course??? I've got Google Earth Pro but can't seem to do this! Is it only available on famous courses? Thanks!

I think Hazeltine National is the only course google has mapped, they did it for the Ryder cup in 2016.I spent many a Hour looking round, since the mapping they have removed alot of the trees.

I'm nearing completion of another Connecticut course, and would be happy to take on River Highlands. I've played the course a few times and live local, so I should be able to recreate things a little easier for you. Let me know if you're cool with me taking it over for you.
