I don't understand the handicap system. On top of screen when I play my handicap is around +13.5. Next to may name on the scorecard it says +11. I see other players with a +20 on top of the screen, but a +10 next to their name. I just played a handicap round and shot even par (72), but my net shows as 83. It didn't make sense to me that a player with a +20 that shows +10 next to the name would defeat me shooting the same 72. What am I not understanding?

On the scorecard it’s how many holes you get a a free stroke. Meaningless unless you are playing against someone. So a -11 on the scorecard means the 11 hardest holes you get -1 stroke. Another player might have -4 and he would only get a stoke taken off o 4 holes because he is better.
Basically you have YOUR handicap and the course has ITS handicap
