I'm losing my battle against pot bunkers.
What is everyone's preferred technique?

I like complaining to HB that vertical faces aren’t possible in the Unity engine, but your mileage may vary.

I'm guessing this is a common conundrum then!?

There has never been a golf game where it's been possible to create true pot bunkers. I don't think there ever will be. It's just not something that can be done. The best you can hope for is something like the picture below - TPC Louisiana.

The best you can hope for is something like the picture below - TPC Louisiana. The old apcd would let you get pretty dang close. You could actually undercut lips and use custom textures.

Here is another one with a smaller lip,From Perfect Golf, may not be the best golf game ever, but the bunkers on the links courses are sweet.Sometimes your golfer may have a funny stance but overall take that for a nice bunker.Never really took to game because could not make my golfer Left handed.By the way pics are from a laptop which just about runs the game, links courses with low detail suits my needs,i bet they look so much better on a decent setup.

Now they are proper pot bunkers, not the sh%$ we have to create on TGC.

really interesting to me looking at Mackenzie & Egbert who the R & A trust on alot of there courses are going away from pot bunkers and moving towards a fairer Rugged look.A new look for some bunkers at Royal portcrawl.Got to Admit the Job they did at Turnberry really amazing just a shame it wont be holding a Open in near/distance future.

You know what would be really simple? Something similar to 3D modeling software where you cut holes into a face. Trace the area, select it, tell it how far down to go, and it creates a steep face. Obviously would be far from perfect, but much better than what we have now.

To be fair - those are massive cross fairway bunkers (on the 16th if I'm not mistaken (which they play as the 17th in the Seniors Open)) - and I've never seen Porthcawl having pot bunkers on most of the holes anyway (I think there are a couple of greenside ones at maybe 6/7/8 that's all)
Most of Porthcawl's bunkers are pretty natural.
PS: Just to be really pedantic - it's Ebert (not Egbert)
