Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the TGC Tours Forum and I wanted to know if anyone has ever done or is willing to do a Twitch of an RCR at least for a hole or two. I've watched all of Canuck's youtube twitch videos and they are incredible (thank you Canuck if you're reading this!) but I want to start my first RCR and I'm having some trouble.
Thanks everyone!

Welcome! I've got an early stage RCR that I'm looking to pick back up once my current project is wrapped up this month. Assuming my internet issues have been resolved, I could stream some work on it. Be advised that I am far from an authority on RCRs, though. theclv24 is the king of RCRs but he doesn't stream on twitch. gamesdecent and jwfickett also knocked it out of the park with Sweetens Cove, but I'm not sure if either of them stream. B.Smooth13 might be your best bet, as he does stream and has a done a very nice rendition of Chicago Golf Club.

I traced Sweetens using a program called GhostIt in about 4 hours flat. That's the easy part.
I was lucky in that Sweetens has photographs of pretty much every fairway and green and major feature from multiple angles up on their website, and there are a couple of really good hole-by-hole flyovers on Youtube that helped me with a lot of the contours and shaping. I'll be the first to admit it's not 100% accurate to the foot on elevations and contours, but the holes play uncannily to the real thing because I spent 90% of my time trying to get the greens spot on. After that, Fickett did a lot of the detailing and planting and said he looked at as many reference photos as he could to make sure everything down to individual rocks were in the right places.
I don't think it would be entertaining at all though to watch on stream. It's a lot of back and forth between screens, Google searching, measuring tooling, etc. Wouldn't be anything like watching a Canuck design stream.

I agree, Brian. From my limited experience thus far, it's super tedious and not nearly as enjoyable as laying out a fictional course. You have to be super-committed to the vision of having the finished product to carry you through the hours of drudgery.

Thanks everyone, I can definitely say that process doesn't sound too entertaining. Finishing up my first TGC 2019 course over the next day or so, might just stick with the fictional courses! Thank you guys for the input! Be sure to check out Newtown GC (Members) my first course which should be published either tonight or tomorrow!
Cheers, Christian

You have to be super-committed to the vision of having the finished product to carry you through the hours of drudgery. But also really rewarding as something that plays like the real thing slowly emerges. Also gives you a lot of understanding for the course and design decisions that went into it. I really enjoyed working on Baltusrol, but it is a commitment of 100h+ to get something that is really close to the real thing.

Building an RCR is an entirely different type of designing altogether. Seriously, RCRs take a level of patience and attention to detail that all but a scant few designers possess. I've only done 2 of them in almost 20 years of designing (Tidewater for PGA2K and DeBary Country Club for TW). A stream of RCR work would really be great to see the masters at work.
I'm considering doing Tidewater again (a spectacular course in Myrtle Beach), but the holes are really spread out and there are homes on most holes now (there were very few when I played it in 2002). The course I really want to do is Old Works in Montana, a Nicklaus design with black sand bunkers. The only reason I don't is, there is no sand texture that will work and that is what makes the course unique. I started it in TW (with my own textures) but never finished.

I’m nearing the end of my Oakland Hills South Course RCR project and have been twitch streaming the last few days if anyone is interested in the “process” I’m more than happy to share my method. I was also chatting with AcesRwild so it can be extra informative with all of his knowledge. I’ll be streaming again next week most days in the am EST.
