ezzinomilonga , I am going to disagree with you about the idea of not having any light rough. From a course design perspective, imagine a typical fairway with 2 yards of light rough around it. Then imagine that the greenskeeper mowed the light rough down to fairway height, making the fairway 4 yards wider. From a strategic standpoint, this design choice is meant to increase the risk of taking on the more difficult shots and to encourage safe plays to the center of the fairway. By the time you stepped to the 9th tee, you should have recognized that there was no light rough and taken that into account when deciding what type of shot to hit. That you rolled into the rough and could not reach the green is your fault; either you misjudged the shot, executed the shot poorly, or both. The course does not owe you a GIR if you miss the fairway. In fact, penalizing players in such a manner helps separate the good from the bad. Once you rolled into the fairway, the hole becomes about how to scramble for par. That's part of major golf. I understand this. And my premise was in fact that this choice of not to use the first cut is just something i don't like but that i understand..is just about my taste. And i never said that this choice has something wrong or unfair. It's an absolutely legit designer's choice. What is unfair (or wrong, to better say it) to me,is that, with or without first cut, a rough should be more or less penalizing depending on by how much you miss the fairway. Playing with master clubs i often miss fairways, even in this course while i was practicing. And i absolutely agree with you : It's only and always my fault when i miss some fairway and is absolutely fair that i have to play to scramble,if i'm good enough to do it. I never had problems with this idea. But again.. In that specific situation, the ball was really too little out from the fairway to make some sense with such a penalty. But it's ok if for you my point of view is wrong. It's just my point of view. But to me this still don't make sense. At all. Not counting the fact that in my eyes there are a lot of clever ways to make tougher a major course. And i mean A LOT. But even this is just my opinion. And,just as other premise, consider that it's absolutely clear to me that i'm still not good enough to compete playing with master clubs,i'm not searching some excuses. I'm pretty sure that i would struggle even in some course that i absolutely love. I'm sure about this. I just think that even (or first of all, maybe?) a tough course, even more if it's a course designed having a major in mind, should to create and recognize some difference between a totally messed up shot and a ball that simply it rolls 5 inches too much to the left. This is about common sense to me. Is not about major or minor golf. What are you saying, in fact, is that's fine in the end to penalize every error in the same way and this have not so much sense to me,cause this means that if i miss a shot by 2 inches or 10 yard there's no difference. And this fact seems to be just the opposite of your idea (which i absolutely agree) to separate the good from the bad. But if this thing is really about major golf..what can i say? EDIT : Furthermore,i was still thinking about what you said regarding the designer's idea to avoid the light rough to give some meter more of fairway. I agree with this idea, theorically speaking. Absolutely...but i think you have already played this course. So now..honestly mate, looking how wide is almost every fairway, do you are really sure that this is what happens in this course? Cause if this idea is right, this means that a bunch of those fairways should be originally wide something like 5 meters. I dunno. Even saying that all this is true and fine,.still it seems to works in a pretty strange manner. And to be more clear about what i'm complaining, a bit after my first answer, i played my first round here (and my last). While normally i need 40 minutes to play a round (checking everything, then trying prior my swing etc..), i end my round in 20 minutes. Checking nothing. Never trying swing. After two holes, i just wish to end. I wish to play it seriously, but just i can't. My bad, obviously..i should be more professiobal,i have to work on this,i know..but i really don't like this course (and not just for this things we're talking about) and i can't help myself, when i dislike a course. I can't play with "love" Anyway..i miss 4 fairways and doing so i realize that to shot in bunker (even with the ball half deep in the sand) is in fact less penalizing that if my ball ends 10-20 inches in rough. In the same way, later a lazy swing produced a slow downswing, then missing the fairway of something about 8 meter to the right. Full rough. And i have the exact same penalty that i have when i miss a fairway by 10-20 inches. Is this about major golfing? To end this explanation...Two weeks ago i played Hazeltine. Other Major qualifying..and i played it with Master Clubs even if i was fully awared that i could just to struggle, cause i'm still just too weak to menage properly Master Clubs. Ending with E. But i was never feeling, playing that course, that it was something wrong. I think it was almost perfect. Hard but fair. I can't say the same with this course. That's all. I'm not used to complain with no reasons. And i'm not the kind of guy that if i struggle i blame the course,or somethig else. i'm very demanding with myself. But again, i may be wrong, but i still think that something in this course don't make sense. And i would thinking the same thing even if i could be good enough to score a -20 every round.

Finished up -6 (iggle on 12, backed up with a stoooopid bogey on 13) and -7 (only front nine bogey on 6) to log a -29. Hope it is good enough to keep the demo marks away.
Onward!

Even if this week it will almost a sure thing to see some very very low score,i'm also almost sure that your score will be absolutely safe. I like this course. Great choice for cc tour. Easy but various and right to have some fun. The only a bit sad note (but is just my taste) is that i wish to playing with crowds, after my first fpur tournaments played without it..but it will happens next weeks

Wow..this week the fight for the promo mark it will be really hard. After two round there are at least 30/40 guys all on pro clubs in a bunch of strokes and there is really no room for error. Really exciting!

I've had a really poor season and no answer for my bad play. I've shot 59 twice and just as many 74s. I've switched back to an old controller (the left stick is busted so I can't use it for anything other than golf) and it seems to be helping. So far I'm in for 68 (ouch) and 61 (really?) this week. Who knows what'll come next.
On a personal note, the poor play had me really close to shutting it down completely. Until the last week or so, I got no joy at all from playing golf. I've limited my play now to tour events only, and even then I was really close to packing up the clubs. Now that my performing season is over, I hope I can start to play better and be happier with the game. It got so bad I barely enjoyed designing. Luckily that passed but the last month or so has been really tough.
Best of luck to you all this week!

Luckily that passed but the last month or so has been really tough. Best of luck to you all this week! I absolutely understand your frustration. A month ago i changed my controller (a cheap one that could not ever pass the api,too easy to use) for a ps4 one (i play on pc),just to can compete here fairly. It was a nightmare. I just could not make a single straight shot. To solve this,i worked a lot (and i mean A LOT) on my position while i play. After hundreds of experiments,i solve anything (almost 👀). Instead to play as i was use to play, keeping the controller more or less placed on my knees, now i keep it in fact vertical in my right hand and with my eyes i follow just the backswing, then i turn back to see the monitor. It's a bit unconfortable for chips, flops and all those situations where the backswing is shorter then usual..but it works quite good. Obviously this can't help on putting. So quite often i screw everything with my putt and with master clubs is still a real nightmare on greens..but i hope that soon or later some kind of muscolar memory will solve this thing so i wiil not still check my backswing again. I hope so But yes..it's hard to enjoy this game when you can't shot straight. The frustration is too much. I hope you can solve it! If i can do some advice, try to work on your position too. It really changed everything to me.

Playing everyday for 3 years can make the game a chore you have to do as opposed to a fun time. taking a week off is always a good idea

Just another round wasted. -9. I was -7 after the 10th hole, then my putt just don't worked anymore. I close with i think 27 putts. A shame. I still am just not good enough. A double shame cause it was another solid round from tee to green. I believe i missed just one fairway in 3 rounds. And maybe 7 greens. I'm just throwing away any chance to win a back to back promo mark. Reality is that still my ambition is greater then my talent (cit.) But looking at the bright side,i almost solved any issues with my swing. I need just to work harder on my putter. I will improve.

LOL. You THINK you solved your swing. Just wait. The golf gods will strike you right in your confidence. Oh i know it! I swear! But if you could see how awful my swing was in the first ten days with my new controller (and how much absurd experiments on my play position and my grab of the controller i tried hoping to find a solution) you easily understand why i'm so happy. And,about the golf's gods, just to say..right now i'm in my usual cigarette&coffee break after the first 9 holes of my 4th round. And to this point i miss 3 fairways (while i missed just one in the first 3 rounds)and a pair of greens. And all this just cause today my swing is kicking with no mercy to the right in the very end. I can't help myself. The funny thing is that i'm at -7,anyway, cause the putt is working good as never before. But i can see that the tragedy is just behind the corner, waiting the perfect moment to kill my dreams.

Well, it seems this time there was no need to the golf god's intervention, in the end. I'm enough stupid to screw up anything by myself. -7 i was after 9 holes..and -7 i was at the end of the round. With two bogeys (one of them really stupid. REALLY) and a continous waste of good chances. The final -34 i think put a good tombstone on any promo mark ambition, for this week. And i deserve it. At least i just throw away 10 strokes. Maybe some more. Well..now time to work hard to finish my list in this week end...and i'll try again next week.

I've put together a promo video for the tour stop at Wolf's Fang next week, I hope you all enjoy your time in Ballachulish. Wow,THIS is what marketing strategy really means!! Great idea. And very weel executed,by the way. Anyway,i finally just played my first round of practice on your course, pro clubs from back tee. 9 birdies and one silly, avoidable bogey at the last par 5 (just a superfast easy pitch then wrong chip and wrong putt ). And the usual pair of makeable missed putt. I like this course. My preferred hole is the 12. I like always the idea of a broken fairways. And here is very well executed, with also the line of trees to take ib count if you want to gamble with it. I appreciated a lot of things. First of all, everything is very balanced. I mean..at least with the first pin, the holes that requires an approach a bit longer or harder, have pin placed in zones with quite sweet slopes. Viceversa, the apparently easy approach requires anyway great precision, cause if your ball ends in the wrong side of the hole, it becomes hard to end with just one putt. I liked the use of fairway bunkers, especially some isolated and little one very well placed. I liked the little stratch of holes beside the river and everything in the end seems to be really in the right place. And this is not a secondary thing. Even the par 3's in my eyes are very well balanced, with 2 long,1 medium and 1 medium/short. If i can speak about personal tastes,i wished to see the water a bit more involved. It is visible in a lot of holes, but is in play in a very few of those. And you could even be a bit more "evil" eith the yardage of some hole. The course should stays pretty enjoyable anyway. And in the end,i have a real passion for the short par 3 and for the idea to have every par 3 at a very different distance. But as a premise, they are just tastes. Your work is really fine, for what i can understand. I don't say anything about the graphic cause i have not the competence to can give judgements or advices, but it seems very enjoyable in every sense. I hope that we'll play the tournament from the back tee, cause it seems ideal for master clubs and is absolutely menageable with pro clubs. Obviously the wind can shuffle a bit everything, but not too much. Very happy to play this course next week. Great work, mate!
